"Get up for school, now!" Jennifer called out.
"I know, Mom!" Katherine yelled back.
"I was up late studying, it's not like she doesn't know. Does she have to yell?" Katherine grumbled to herself in her room.
"Kate! Now!" Jennifer shouted again.
Katherine hurried downstairs. She was heading to the doorway to put on her shoes when Jennifer walked over, handed her a piece of toast, and said, "Eat it on the way." Katherine muttered a thanks.
Katherine was seventeen, a senior in high school—the final stretch.
