"The fuck?"
As soon as those words leave Anu's lips, my legs grow minds of their own.
I rush to her side and stare into the room.
Immediately, my brain… short-circuits.
The room is… colourless.
Not white. Not grey. Just… drained. Bland.
As if someone sucked the life out of it and forgot to put anything back.
Aside from that, it's a mess in here.
Not filthy, or disgusting in the way drunk people trash places.
But... this… is the kind of mess that looks organised to the one who created it.
The kind of mess I saw way too many times in the hostels back in college.
Clothes are scattered all over the floor, there's a jacket hanging off the back of a chair instead of inside a wardrobe or closet… Books lie stacked unevenly on the desk, and even on the floor.
Some of them are open, some face down, and some clearly abandoned mid-thought.
I step into the room, staring about in utter dumbfoundment.
The bed isn't made, and that alone feels wrong…
