Chapter 28 - Instincts Don’t Scream for Nothing

I scream NO!!! As I wake up from my sleep. Startling Luka. Heat flushed my cheeks as soon as I realized I was screaming out loud and no longer in my dream.

"What is it, beautiful?" Luka asked, worry furrowing his brow.

"Nothing, just one of my recurring dreams I have sometimes."

"You have a recurring dream? Tell me about it?" He asks. I felt unsure about telling him. Was it really the recurring dream? It had the same wolf as always, but this time it was very different.

"Well, I do, but this one was different. I am usually running through the woods. Like I am being chased by wolves."

"By wolves?" He asks.

"Yeah, I think there are multiple, but I only ever see one. It's this beautiful white wolf with green eyes like mine."

"Oh really?" Luka seemed so captivated as he waited for me to continue.

"Yeah, I usually wake up when it jumps at me, but it wasn't the case this time," I tell him, and he just lifts a brow for me to continue. "This time, me and the White Wolf are running through the woods together. Like we were one. We even talk to each other and that was new too."

"She talked to you? Interesting." Luka mused.

"Yeah, then out of nowhere a big black wolf jumped out at us. This was the first time another wolf had shown up in my dream." I watched Luka's eyes widen a bit. "The black wolf jumped at us, and I heard a voice say Mate?" I think I have read one too many romance novels.

"He spoke to you?" Disbelief laced Luka's voice.

"Yea? All I remember was the black wolf jumping at me and the white one. I was scared, and I almost called the white wolf mine. Was she mine? She called me hers. So wouldn't that make her mine? "the white one. That's why I woke up screaming no." I tell him, looking away. I felt so embarrassed about this dream. Chad made fun of me for wolf dreams. "I know I sound crazy." Shame made it hard to swallow. Luka's rough hands pulled my face back to his. His deep blue eyes captivated me once again. They almost glowed. Quickly, I blinked, and they stopped glowing. I must have been seeing things. I must be exhausted.

"You are not crazy for any of that. Or anything you have said. It all makes sense to me. To be honest. I often dream of a black wolf." Luka tells me. My mouth gapes open a bit. "My family believes the animal that shows up in your dreams is like a protector of a kind. Like a guardian angel."

"Really?" I couldn't hide my disbelief.

"Yes really! It is a beautiful thing you have these dreams." Luka reassured me. It felt too good to be true, but I enjoyed the fact that he didn't think my dreams were weird. I was happy someone didn't think I was weird. I almost cried at that thought.

Ring ring ring

Oh, it's Jess, "hey, what's up, how's baby sitting going?" I answered the call.

"The kids are great. But I might have a small problems," Jess seemed upset.

"What's wrong?" I asked, worried for my best friend.

"Luka is still with you, right?" Jess asked instead of telling me what was wrong.

"Yeah? Luka is here why? What's up?" I respond and I look over at Luka. He watches me, waiting to figure out what's going on.

Do you mind coming over here and checking out this car that keeps circling the house? It's giving me a really bad feeling." Jess tells me.

"Absolutely, we will come right over.

"Thank you. Park a couple of houses down so you don't spook them. Or something I don't know. I am sorry, I know I sound crazy." Jess sounded defeated and I felt so bad. I knew exactly how it felt to share something and be made to feel like I was crazy.

"You don't sound crazy. We will be right over!" I hang up the phone.

"Something wrong?" Luka asks.

"Yeah, something is going on. A car keeps driving by, and Jess has a really bad feeling about it." I explain. "I am going to change real quick," I tell him.

"Does Jess get bad feelings like this often? He calls up as I walk away. I pause thinking. Does she?

"Not really, Besides now I can only think of her getting a bad feeling when that boy was hitting on me at the mall." I reply. May she said she got a bad feeling from Chad or my old group of friends, but it wasn't like this. Something told me this was different.

"There is no time to waste. Let's go now. Come on." Luka calls with urgency in his voice. I listened. I didn't really want to be out in pjs and a t-shirt, but if something was wrong and I could have done something but I changed my clothes, I would hate myself forever. I turned right around, and Luka was texting on his phone as we walked out of Jess's house. Using the key her parents left, I locked the door. I pursued Luka to the large blacked-out lifted truck. Looking at the passenger door, I wondered how I would get in it. I was only five foot three. Maybe if I took a running jump I could get in?

"Need help?" Luka asked me trying to hide his amusement.

"Ah yeah! I sassed. "I am five feet nothing compared to your 7 feet tallness!"

"I am 7 feet 2, thank you!" Luka sassed back.

"What, really?" I gasped. I knew he was tall. But I didn't realize he was really over 7 feet. I know Jordan is 6 feet 10 inches tall, and Joel is 6 feet 8 inches tall.

"You think I am lying?" Luka towers over me. I automatically gulped. Looking up at him.

"No… I believe you." I whimpered out.

"Good girl." Luka lifts me and tosses me gently onto the passenger seat.
