Chapter 18 - THIS FLOOR WAS DESIGNED BY A MENACE

The floor opened.

And immediately betrayed them.

A loud click echoed beneath their feet.

Tatsu froze mid step.

"…Nobody move."

Leonhart frowned. "Why."

"Because every time I say that," Tatsu said carefully, "something horrible happens right after."

The ground dropped.

All three of them fell.

Tatsu screamed.Leonhart swore loudly in three different languages.Fridge Sama did not react at all.

They landed on a slanted stone slide and shot forward at terrifying speed.

"This is a slide," Tatsu yelled. "WHY IS THIS A SLIDE."

Leonhart slammed his hands into the surface, fire bursting to slow himself.

It did nothing.

"The floor is heat resistant," Leonhart shouted.

Fridge Sama adjusted his posture calmly.

"Yes," he said. "It is meant to humiliate you."

Spikes shot out of the walls.

Tatsu flailed."WHY DOES IT ALSO HAVE SPIKES."

Leonhart burned the spikes mid extension, melting them just enough for Fridge Sama to freeze them solid.

They shattered harmlessly.

"…That worked," Tatsu said.

"Combo," Fridge Sama replied.

The slide launched them into open air.

Tatsu's stomach dropped.

They fell into a massive chamber filled with floating platforms that moved randomly like drunk insects.

Tatsu hit one platform face first.

Leonhart barely landed on another.

Fridge Sama touched down gently like gravity had apologized to him personally.

The moment they landed, mechanisms activated.

Blades swung.Arrows fired.Platforms flipped.

Leonhart jumped, nearly slipping.

"I hate this floor," he snarled.

Tatsu rolled to his feet."This floor hates us too."

A platform beneath Leonhart flipped upside down.

Leonhart yelped and fell.

Tatsu reacted instantly.

"LEFT," he shouted.

Leonhart twisted midair, blasting fire downward to propel himself sideways.

Fridge Sama froze the air beneath him just enough to give Leonhart a surface to land on.

Leonhart panted."…Do not do that again."

"You fell," Fridge Sama said. "That is your fault."

The platforms began shrinking.

Tatsu stared."Oh come on."

The walls suddenly fired nets.

Exploding nets.

Tatsu screamed."WHY ARE THE NETS EXPLODING."

Leonhart burned one net apart.

Another wrapped around Tatsu.

Fridge Sama stepped forward and snapped his fingers.

The net froze and shattered.

Tatsu collapsed.

"Thank you."

"You were slow," Fridge Sama replied.

"Yes," Tatsu said. "Because I am a normal human."

The floor shook.

A massive stone statue rose from the center, its face permanently locked in a mocking grin.

The statue clapped.

Traps activated faster.

Tatsu laughed hysterically.

"This floor is bullying us."

Leonhart clenched his fists."It is mocking me."

Fridge Sama looked at the statue.

"I do not like it," he said.

The statue launched chains toward them.

Leonhart incinerated the chains.

Fridge Sama froze the statue's legs.

The statue laughed louder.

The floor flipped again.

Tatsu slid dangerously close to the edge of a collapsing platform.

Leonhart grabbed his wrist.

Their eyes met.

"Do not let go," Tatsu said.

"I am not letting go," Leonhart replied, straining.

Fridge Sama stepped closer and grabbed both of them by the collars, pulling them onto solid ground.

"Stabilize," he said.

The statue slammed its hands down.

The shockwave sent platforms flying.

Tatsu pointed desperately."Head. The head is laughing too much."

Leonhart did not argue.

Fire surged upward, blasting straight into the statue's face.

The stone cracked.

Fridge Sama followed instantly.

The entire head froze.

Leonhart snapped his fingers.

The frozen head exploded into rubble.

The statue froze mid motion.

Then collapsed.

Silence.

The platforms stopped moving.

The blades retracted.

The arrows ceased.

Tatsu lay flat on the floor, arms spread.

"I survived," he whispered. "Against a floor."

Leonhart sat down hard."That was undignified."

Fridge Sama nodded."Yes."

Text appeared in the air.

Trap Floor Cleared

Tatsu laughed weakly."I hate this tower."

Leonhart exhaled."…I am starting to agree."

Fridge Sama turned toward the next door.

"This floor was inefficient," he said.

Tatsu groaned."You say that like it personally insulted you."

"It did," Fridge Sama replied.

They stood.

They moved on.

Behind them, somewhere deep in the Tower's mechanisms, something reset.

And prepared something even worse.
