The castle had grown quiet in Matt's absence. Every bubbling action that happened in the castle in the past few decades could be tied to Yvonne. Then came Matt who was supposedly hired to keep the bubbling in check, to make sure Yvonne was pinned to the ground, ended up making it grow yet. His absence was felt by Yvonne but more so it was felt by every staff member in the castle.
Yvonne lay in her bed, the sheets tangled around her, her skin pale and clammy. The fever had come on suddenly, without warning—one day she had been fine, though angry and heartbroken but healthy nonetheless. The very next, she had collapsed in the hallway, her body burning up, her vision swimming.
The healers had been summoned. They had done their best, but nothing seemed to work. The fever persisted. The weakness grew worse with every passing day. Yvonne drifted in and out of consciousness, her dreams fragmented and strange.
