Chapter 2 - Hunger

For how long have I been walking now?

Hours. Many, many hours. At least twenty hours without anything to eat or drink. I don't even know what it means anymore—to eat, or to drink. It's as if I have never lived before. But… have I?

The hot sand under my feet burns so much that they've turned purple. But then I see it: a small ruin with a man sitting next to it. He is asleep. I can't even understand what I'm doing here, but I let my body do the work.

Slowly, I grab his scimitar from the ground, but as he wakes up from the sound, I thrust it into his neck, without beheading him.

My hands start to shake as if something is wrong, but the only thing I can think of now is my hunger. The life vanishes from his eyes—not slowly, but fast. He wasn't supposed to live anymore—no, not even exist anymore.

My hunger succeeds.

The world blurs for a moment, but once my senses come back, he is lying there, nearly half of his body gone. What happened?

I have no time to think about it, as it gets darker and darker every second. The pain is gone. The headache is gone.

My hunger robbed me of my senses and made me act.But was that my hunger… or was it just me?

Quickly, I build myself a small shelter in the ruin so I can survive the night.

I still ask myself the question: Who am I?
