Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Passed the Physical, Joined ZAFT

After saying thank you, Felix took his examination form and headed toward the corresponding department.

More than an hour later, having completed all the physical examination items, Felix left the central hospital and returned home.

Pushing open the door, he didn't see his parents at home.

"They must have gone to work," he murmured to himself.

Felix then went back to his room, lay on the bed, and began to ponder what came next.

'What I need to do now is wait for the results. Once I successfully join ZAFT, I'll apply for defense patrol missions near Junius Seven. To prevent the bombing of Junius Seven,' he thought to himself, full of determination.

Felix continuously planned out the tasks he needed to accomplish in the near future.

As he lost himself in these thoughts, the entire morning passed by.

At noon, he had a simple meal at home, cleaned up the dishes, and then sat on the living room sofa to watch TV.

A few minutes later,

the phone in the living room rang. He stood up, walked over to the phone, and pressed the answer button.

"Is this the residence of Felix Leo Griffith?" a gentle female voice came through the phone.

Hearing this, Felix nodded and replied, "Hello, I am Felix Leo Griffith. May I ask who's speaking?"

"Felix, hello! This is the ZAFT military department responsible for personnel recruitment. Your physical examination report has been processed and sent to us. According to the examination, your physical condition is very healthy and fully meets our ZAFT enlistment qualifications. You are now officially notified that you have been accepted. Soon, you will receive an admission letter from the ZAFT Military Academy. You will study there for a period of time and, upon graduation, officially join ZAFT."

The gentle female voice spoke to Felix in a prepared, almost robotic manner.

Listening to the content of the call, Felix nodded and acknowledged, "I understand."

"Alright," the other party said before ending the communication.

After hanging up, Felix returned to the sofa and sat down.

Two hours later,

Felix received the military academy admission letter delivered to his door.

Evening

In the dining room of Felix's home

"Dad, Mom, I've been successfully accepted. Soon, I may have to leave home to study at the military academy," Griffith informed his parents as he looked at them.

Wendy paused slightly while picking up food with her chopsticks upon hearing this. After a moment, she returned to normal, set the chopsticks down on the table, and spoke with a tone of reluctance, "Leaving so soon?"

"Yes! The military academy is different from other schools; the time requirements are quite strict."

Faced with his mother's reluctance, Felix also felt a surge of sadness in his heart. However, he concealed this emotion well, not letting it show.

Hearing this, Wendy didn't ask further. She stood up and walked toward Felix's room.

"Mom?" Felix questioned, puzzled by his mother's action.

Wendy replied with reluctance, "I'm finished eating. I'm going to pack your things."

After saying this, he pushed the door open and entered Felix's room.

The dining room was suddenly left with only Felix and his father. Chris picked up food for Felix with his chopsticks, his deep voice carrying a slight hoarseness.

"Study hard over there and don't betray your own ideals, understand?"

"I will, Dad!"

Nodding, Felix spoke with his father in as calm a tone as possible.

Hearing this, Chris said nothing more and quietly continued eating at the table.

Junius City Sector Seven Spaceport Waiting Area

"Mom, Dad, you can see me off here! I can handle the rest of the journey on my own."

Looking at his reluctant parents, Felix bid them farewell. Wendy's eyes were slightly red as she reached out to straighten Felix's clothes, instructing him.

"Eat properly! Get plenty of rest, and be careful!"

"Mmh!"

Nodding, Felix made an affirmative sound.

Chris reached out and patted Felix's shoulder, saying briefly.

"Stay safe!"

"I understand."

Half an hour later,

Felix, having parted from his parents, boarded a shuttle bound for Disenbelle City.

The shuttle traversed the pitch-black cosmos and eventually docked at Disenbelle City Sector Two Spaceport.

After disembarking, Felix took his luggage and rode the satellite elevator into the satellite's interior, then took a bus to the military academy.

January C.E. 70

After a full year of study, Felix completed all courses at the military academy with outstanding talent, graduating as the top of his class and with the best academic record since the academy's establishment.

A few days later,

Near Junius City, PLANT Homeland

In the Hawkins Squad of ZAFT, responsible for defense and patrol duties

"Captain Hawkins, hello!"

Entering the captain's room, Felix raised his hand in a salute to the captain before him.

Hawkins looked up at Felix, a friendly smile on his face, stood up, and walked over to him, placing a large hand on Felix's shoulder and giving it a pat.

"Felix, welcome aboard!"

Hawkins spoke with enthusiastic warmth.

Feeling Captain Hawkins' warmth, Felix's expression relaxed considerably.

Hawkins then continued.

"I'll take you to your quarters."

"Thank you, Captain!"

Felix expressed his gratitude.

Hawkins waved it off amiably.

"No need to thank me, it's my duty."

...

"Heine! This will be your future roommate. As the senior, make sure to take good care of the junior, understood?"

In a room

Hawkins led Felix inside and instructed the occupant.

Looking at the orange-haired man before him, Felix thought to himself.

'To think that ace who died immediately upon appearing in the second series has now become my teammate.'

Hearing the captain's words, Heine raised his hand in a salute and replied.

"Yes, Captain!"

After replying, Heine lowered his hand and looked at Felix, extending his hand warmly.

"Hello, I'm Heine Westenfluss. Just call me Heine."

"Hello, Brother Heine. I'm Felix Leo Griffith. You can call me Felix."

Looking at the outstretched hand, Felix reached out and shook it, offering a faint smile as he spoke gently.

Upon hearing Felix's name, Heine's expression showed surprise. Staring at Felix, he exclaimed in astonishment, "You're this year's graduate who achieved the best results in the history of the officer academy?"

"I wouldn't call it the best results—it was mostly luck."

Faced with Heine's enthusiastic questioning, Felix felt somewhat embarrassed and gave an awkward chuckle.

Seeing that the two were getting along well without any issues, Hawkins left the room, leaving the space to the two young men.
