Chapter 5 - I'll Call You Dad

"Thank you?" Fu Shiqin was furious.

"Mu Weiwei, you ruined a painting worth tens of millions, and you expect us to thank you? Am I out of my mind, or are you?"

She ruined a painting worth tens of millions, and yet she had the nerve to ask them for thanks?

"Of course you're the one with the problem." Gu Weiwei glanced at him indifferently.

"You..."

Gu Weiwei looked at the oil painting. It was one of the Rose Garden series by the famous 19th-century European painter Priyan. The roses in the painting were vibrant, but unfortunately, because coffee had seeped into the canvas, the whole painting appeared dark and dull, having lost its original beauty and artistic conception.

"Spending tens of millions to buy a fake, what else is that but having a problem with your mind?"

"A fake?!" Fu Shiqin was speechless at her sophistry.

"You, who know nothing about painting and have never studied art, do you even know what a real painting is and what a fake one is?"

Meng Ruya followed up. "This painting was officially auctioned and authenticated by experts; it can't possibly be fake."

She was the one who found the painting and the one who went to bid for it.

Now she's actually saying she spent tens of millions to buy a fake painting—she's even willing to tell such a lie to escape punishment.

Fu Hanzheng's expression grew even colder. "If you say it's fake, you'd better have a perfect explanation."

Gu Weiwei looked at him and explained her discovery word by word.

"Priyan's paintings mostly use the thin-layer technique, creating a transparent or semi-transparent effect. The paintings have a lively and dynamic feel. Although this copy looks very similar, it's not a Priyan painting at all."

"I've studied painting for so many years; how come I didn't see what you meant?" Meng Ruya asked with a faint smile.

Gu Weiwei smiled and simply said...

"If you still don't believe me, then have it appraised by Mr. Ming Zongyuan. He's an expert on Priyan's paintings and the president of the Chinese Fine Arts Association. With his expertise, he should be able to tell whether the painting is real or fake."

"Ha, you really won't admit it until you're faced with a real problem."

Fu Shiqin sneered. He had never seen such a shameless person.

He had no objection to her moving into the Fu family home.

They usually let her harass his brother by assuming she was young and didn't understand, but in this matter, she was clearly in the wrong, yet she was still trying to argue her way out of line.

Old Mrs. Fu looked at Fu Hanzheng, "Even if we really want to convict her, we need to make sure it's convincing. Please have Mr. Ming come over." Fu Hanzheng

dialed his assistant's number and asked someone to go to the Ming family home to invite Ming Zongyuan over to appraise the painting's authenticity on the spot.

Fu Shiqin snorted, "Fine, let's have Elder Ming appraise it. Once the results are out, let's see what you have to say."

"If it's real, I'll sell my blood and kidneys to compensate you." Gu Weiwei finished speaking, then smiled maliciously, "But what if it's fake?"

"If it's fake, I'll call you 'Dad'." Fu Shiqin retorted.

"Okay, just don't renege on your promise later." Gu Weiwei stood up and said to Old Madam Fu.

"Grandma Fu, I'd like to pack my things first."

Old Madam Fu nodded. After what happened, regardless of whether the painting was real or fake, Han Zheng wouldn't let her stay here anymore.

Gu Weiwei went upstairs to pack Mu Weiwei's things. After packing, she sat quietly upstairs, contemplating her future after leaving this place.

After a while, Fu Shiqin ran downstairs and knocked on the door.

"Mu Weiwei, Elder Ming is here. It's too late for you to hide now.
