Chapter 88 - Blood and Chains

The battle was going slightly better, although for Yumiel it was lost from the start. Moving forward across the battlefield, heading to where Jack had been thrown, she began to search for him.

Retracing the path he might have taken, she came across the many works of art he had left behind. Moving back through the corpses he had left, she eventually ended up outside the battlefield.

« Jack ended up here, isolated. »

Glancing at the corpse, she quickly understood why. Not far away on the ground, several clearly visible signs of fighting.

She suspected that something had happened here, otherwise Jack would have rejoined her. A little farther off, there were also enormous footprints.

Surely Alpha's, at least she hoped so, following the tracks as they went around the battlefield.

Skirting the battlefield on the right and moving upward, soon reaching the wolves' side, she found several blood trails on the ground leading toward the wolves.

Following them, she entered their side. The wolves were practically trampling over one another because they were so numerous, all running toward the center of the war, surging like an endless wave. Yet Yumiel could feel their despair; they themselves were beginning to doubt their victory.

« Woooo—ooo—ooo… »

A deep sound rang out, echoing across the battlefield. In response, all the wolves howled in turn.

« Aooooouuuuu… »

Suddenly they all became mad with rage, drool dripping and eyes filled with a certain fury, charging into the opposing camp. But that was not all: immense metal chains began to float in the sky, clashing against one another.

Yumiel was stunned, letting out: « This battle will never stop surprising me. »

Running toward the chains, she found Alpha badly wounded; he was missing a leg, the front left one. His body was slashed everywhere, bleeding heavily.

Yumiel noticed that his fur had changed, shifting from gray to crimson. In front of him were three men: one floating in the sky, looking exactly like the one she had seen just before. Two others were standing before him.

Standing on only three legs, Alpha was still managing to dodge the attacks of the man floating in the sky, while sweeping the other two away with the metal chains he seemed to control.

She hesitated about whether to go help him or not, deciding to observe a little longer.

The floating man extended both his hands toward Alpha; all of a sudden Alpha became immobilized, as if a force were holding him to the ground. The two men facing him tried to attack him. Both were using that strange kind of Ch'i.

Watching them move and use their Ch'i, Yumiel could tell that it was far superior to the one she had faced before.

Their energy shifted from their abdomen to their entire bodies, dodging Alpha's immense metal chains. At least, that was what they thought — the chains turned back and hunted one of them down, grabbing him and wrapping around him.

With a single exchange of glances, the other decided to abandon him, rushing at Alpha while generating a purple Ch'i sword, aiming to cut off his head.

Yumiel's daggers shot toward the flying man, forcing him to pull one hand away from Alpha toward Yumiel's daggers. Releasing his hold on Alpha, Alpha managed to throw himself aside, dodging the attack.

Yumiel's daggers seemed frozen in midair; she felt a force pushing them back, as if she were losing control over them.

Seeing Alpha manage to dodge, he released his other hand and focused on the crystallized blood daggers in front of him, managing to take control of them and direct them toward Alpha.

Yumiel felt that she no longer had control, as if they were moving outside her will.

« Don't get ahead of yourself, asshole ! »

She opened her senses; the daggers stopped not far from Alpha, then shot back the other way toward the man floating in the sky. It amused him, and a battle of control followed between the two.

The one who had tried to behead Alpha went back to help his teammate, cutting the metal chains that were wrapped around him. The chains shattered, leaving behind a wounded man with a broken arm.

Alpha was not going to just watch them do that without acting; his chains reformed, cracking through the air, then lashed the already injured man, who could not dodge.

Seeing his teammate half dead, he was seized by a wild rage, circulating his Ch'i through his entire body to the maximum. He charged at Alpha with two Ch'i swords in each hand, slicing through the chains coming at him.

Alpha was gravely wounded, barely able to move; his vision was becoming blurry, death drawing near. With his last strength, he sent his chains at the man charging him, who cut them before they could reform — yet they reformed, wrapping around him and enclosing him in a sphere of chains where he was slowly crushed.

Trapped within the chains, feet and hands bound, with his last free hand he fired a Ch'i projectile. Alpha tried to dodge it, but with only three legs free and his blurred vision, he only partially avoided it, missing the center of his head but losing his left eye.

Blood flowed from his eye and groans could be heard, but he did not release his chains, tearing him apart until he was sure he was dead. Then he collapsed to the ground, seeing in the distance with his only remaining eye a helicopter arriving.

The struggle between the two continued, although Yumiel had the advantage. At the same time, it was her own blood that she was controlling. Her daggers slowly drew closer to the man.

Suddenly, he was disturbed by a helicopter arriving above the battlefield, sweeping it from end to end, as if searching for something. Yumiel understood that it was Alan.

Alpha's chains arrived, striking the floating man and sending him to the ground. Although he was now on the ground, he could still control his chains.

The man got back up, but this time he was no longer flying, approaching Yumiel, creating a psychic shield around himself to protect him from Yumiel's and Alpha's attacks.

Huge veins were visible on his forehead, and intense bleeding from his nose and mouth could be seen; it seemed that he too had reached his limits.

He lifted a massive rock and hurled it at Alpha, trying to kill him. Yumiel pulled five of her daggers back, forming a wall to protect him, before moving to stand beside him, shielding him while manipulating the rest of her daggers to attack.
