Chapter 13 - Science doesn't wait

Transforming the bucket by injecting a drop of her blood into it, she let the bucket out, after all now it could no longer degrade, continuing her training.

yumiel absolutely wanted an offensive or defensive ability like the blade man had. The time she spent improving her control was slowly bearing fruit.

Moving from a floating ball of blood to more complex shapes like a curtain of blood or even sharp objects, blades, scissors, wire, the problem she faced was making it solid. Indeed, yumiel tried to cut a fruit, but it remained blood. Simple blood could not inflict any damage nor block any attack.

yumiel took her time, thinking through all aspects. If her blood contained an agent capable of modifying others' structures, it could also change structurally. She rushed to a notepad nearby and wrote down:

« If my blood contains a total enzymatic inhibition capable of stopping metabolic activities, (by deactivating degrading enzymes,) then we are talking about "structural modification of blood." We can thus imagine them organizing into regular structures. »

yumiel turned the page of the notepad, continuing her scientific thesis.

« By organizing this way, it behaves like plasma, creating a rigid molecular network. It then becomes possible to go through a crystallization state, thanks to polymerization or molecular self-assembly. »

yumiel turned another page.

« It works like snowflakes, but biochemically. The blood then passes into a translucent solid state (crystal). This also means I can do the reverse by changing the structure, breaking the molecular interactions, which collapse, and the network disassembles by itself, becoming liquid again on its own. »

yumiel was proud of her thesis; it was entirely possible, scientifically. Walking around in circles in the kitchen, reading her thesis. All that was left was to practice.

She didn't even notice Marie, who was there, watching yumiel train to manipulate blood, giving it different shapes. Sometimes she saw a kind of crystallization start before turning back into liquid. yumiel wrote her progress in the notepad.

Marie paid it no attention; she had seen enough today, so flying blood didn't faze her. Marie opened the fridge as if looking for food, which alerted yumiel sitting not far away.

« Are you hungry, Marie? You should have told me, I would have made you something to eat. »

Marie made a gesture to yumiel as if to say she was hungry. yumiel started cooking; she had enough food for several months. She cooked pancakes with eggs and bacon. Marie was sitting on the couch, polishing her weapon and organizing spare magazines.

« But where did she find those magazines? »

Marie heard yumiel, she looked up, glanced at yumiel, and pointed to the upper floor. yumiel let out a chuckle. Once everything was cooked, yumiel brought food to Marie, taking only a small portion for herself, then grabbed the remote, turning on the TV. Unfortunately, no channels were broadcasting, yumiel grabbed her phone; the network bar still hadn't returned.

yumiel resumed her training. Trying repeatedly, Marie was beside her, sometimes clinging to yumiel, other times napping on the couch, little micro-naps.

yumiel refused to use her senses. She could have easily succeeded, but that wouldn't have been very useful in a real fight; she needed to be able to do it. It was only when the afternoon came that she achieved her first crystallization.

Her blood was frozen in the air, a transparent red. It was magnificent, so beautiful that it could be mistaken for a diamond reflecting light from all directions. yumiel hadn't made a complex shape, just a large ball. She began manipulating her crystal ball, making it levitate, then bringing it back to her.

yumiel then focused, applying a stimulus, breaking the molecular interactions, instantly turning the crystallized ball back to liquid. yumiel was overjoyed, hugging Marie tightly.

She continued with more complex shapes, mostly weapons, creating a floating crystallized blade. Making it float freely, yumiel placed a fruit on a chair, controlling her blade to crush the fruit. The blade cut the fruit without issue, but she hadn't expected to cut the chair as well.

yumiel noted all this in a notepad larger than the previous one, transcribing every detail and change.

yumiel spread a line of blood and then stretched it like an elastic band, making the blood extremely thin before crystallizing it. A very thin layer of red crystals acting as a wall. yumiel took Marie's pistol and fired 4 bullets into the blood wall, then returned the pistol to Marie.

The wall easily blocked three bullets. It seemed that her blood organized into microstructured blades, allowing both defense and attack. The agent in her blood was simply incredible.

yumiel didn't waste a drop and wrote all this in her notepad, looking for other ideas, noting them down. Marie, for her part, had gone upstairs to get books and then began reading next to yumiel.

yumiel glanced over and saw Marie reading books; it made her smile to see Marie behave like a normal girl for once. At least, that's what she thought. yumiel approached Marie to see a stack of books with titles like: How to Learn Shooting: Human Anatomy or How to Kill Effectively.

yumiel sighed; those were definitely her father's books. She grabbed Marie's forearm to look at the book she was reading, but Marie's reaction was different, her face grimacing. Marie turned her head slightly. yumiel understood instantly.

« Are you hurt? » Marie lowered her head slightly as if she had done something wrong. « But I would have seen it, unless… »

yumiel lifted her oversized pajamas and touched her ribs. Marie trembled slightly, accentuating her grimace. « A deep bruise. »
