Chapter —The Discharge and the Whispers of the Abyss
The sterile, white-washed walls of the Global Council's medical wing finally felt like a memory rather than a prison. **Auron** stood by the window of the recovery room, adjusting the collar of his uniform. The heavy, crushing fatigue that had inhabited his bones since the battle with Devino had finally receded, replaced by a restless energy.
Behind him, **Kaizen** lay propped up against a mountain of pillows. His face was pale, and his aura was still flickering like a candle in a breeze, but the dark, oily stain of the Devil was gone. He looked at Auron with a pride that was tempered by a profound, lingering guilt.
"You're heading out then?" Kaizen asked, his voice still a bit raspy.
"It's time," Auron replied, turning to look at his brother. "The doctors say I'm cleared for light duty, but you... you still have at least a week of bed rest. Don't try to sneak out and train, Kaizen. Evelyn will have my head if I let you."
Kaizen let out a weak, genuine chuckle. "I wouldn't dream of it. I owe you my life, Auron. Get some rest. You've carried the world on your shoulders for five months. Let someone else take a shift for a few days."
Auron nodded, offering a final wish for a speedy recovery before heading toward the door. As he gripped the handle, he felt a strange sense of hesitation. He knew what was waiting on the other side.t
As the sliding door hissed open, Auron was met with a wall of familiar faces. Standing in a semi-circle in the hallway were **Marin, Chika, Shuri, Liod, Uno,** and... **Luke**.
Auron's heart skipped a beat. Seeing the **Illusion of Luke** standing there, acting perfectly normal, was a surreal experience. He had to remind himself that while he was unconscious in the hospital, he had secretly dispatched an illusionary clone to his home to ensure his mother didn't worry and to keep his dual identity intact.
Marin stepped forward, her golden hair catching the hall's fluorescent light. She held out a bouquet of vibrant lilies—the same ones from her dream, though she didn't know it.
"For your discharge," she said softly, her eyes downcast.
Auron took the flowers, surprised. "Why all this? I was just doing my job."
"It's more than that," Liod said, his usual energetic tone replaced by a somber weight. "We were the ones who made it so difficult for you. We were possessed, we attacked you... we almost killed the person who was trying to save us. We are deeply, truly sorry."
"There is no need for a 'sorry'," Auron said, his voice firm but kind. "The Devil held the strings. You were passengers in your own bodies. You weren't the ones fighting me—he was. No worries, alright?"
Behind them, through the glass of the door, Kaizen watched the scene with a faint smile. He saw the bond between these young warriors—a bond that even a Devil couldn't truly shatter.
"I think I should return home now," Auron said to the group. "I need to check on some things."
The group agreed, forming an informal guard of honor as they led him toward the exit of the facility. **Evelyn** walked beside Auron, her expression troubled. Several times, she opened her mouth as if to speak, but then bit her lip and looked away.
Once they reached the grand gates of the Council headquarters, Auron turned to the group. "Go on, all of you. Go home. Spend time with your families. You've earned a break."
They exchanged goodbyes, Marin lingering for a moment with a look that said a thousand things she couldn't find the words for, before they all departed. Finally, it was just Auron and Evelyn standing in the afternoon sun.
"Is there something you want to say, Evelyn?" Auron asked, his blue visor fixing on her. "You've been holding onto a thought since we left the room."
Evelyn sighed, leaning against a stone pillar. "I didn't want to tell you yet. You just recovered. I wanted you to have at least one day of peace."
"You're giving me more tension by *not* telling me," Auron countered. "Share it openly. I can handle it."
Evelyn took a deep breath, her eyes darkening. "After you knocked Kaizen unconscious... for a few seconds, the Devino's soul was still clinging to the edge of the void before it fully dissolved. It spoke to me. Its voice was like ice."
Auron stilled. "What did it say?"
"It said, *'I got defeated by you ants, and I have much regret about it. But no worries... to end your life, soon our King and the Seven Sin Generals will come. They will devour you all.'*"
The air between them seemed to grow cold. Auron repeated the words in his mind. "A King... and Seven Sin Generals".He thought for a while and said "They depict the Seven Deadly Sins, don't they?"
"Wrath, Lust, Greed, Pride, Envy, Gluttony, and Sloth," Evelyn whispered. "You think they are real entities?"
"When I first encountered a devil in the spatial crack," Auron mused, "it told me they are made from our corrupted Aura. It means these 'Generals' aren't just monsters from another dimension. They are the physical manifestations of human corruption. Anger, desire, jealousy... they are the ultimate evolution of the Nodes."
"What do we do?" Evelyn asked, her hand trembling slightly. "If Devino was just a 'Villa' occupant, how strong are the Generals?"
"We can't worry about them yet," Auron said, his gaze turning toward the horizon. "I don't think they will strike before the two-year mark. Our main goal hasn't changed. We need the **Shield**."
Evelyn's posture stiffened. "The Shield. You're right. Are you ready to begin the final phase of the ritual, Auron? We have the data, we have the location..."
Auron felt a familiar, cold knot of dread in his stomach. He looked away. "I need time. I need to prepare a plan... a strategy. Can I leave for now?"
Evelyn stepped in front of him, her eyes searching his visor. "I don't know why you behave like this every time I mention the Shield. You've faced a Devil. You've saved the Council. Why does a protective ritual make you act like a hunted animal? Tell me the truth, Auron."
Auron remained silent. How could he tell her? If he told her that the ritual to create the World Shield had a **98% death rate**, she would never allow him to proceed. She would try to take his place, or the Council would forbid the project entirely, leaving the world defenseless when the 'King' eventually arrived.
"I just need rest, Evelyn," he said softly. "I'll see you tomorrow."
Before she could argue, he ignited his aura and took to the sky, a silver-indigo streak disappearing into the clouds.
Auron flew toward the outskirts of the city, descending near the familiar path to the apartment. As he touched down in the woods, he saw his **Illusionary Clone**—the "Luke" that had been living his life for the past week—waiting for him behind a large oak tree.
The Illusion let out a laugh, its form flickering slightly. "Back at last? Being a hero is exhausting, isn't it? I've had to eat your mom's cooking and pretend to study for seven days. It's been tough."
"Don't remind me," Auron said, deactivated his armor.
With a flash of light, the armored hero vanished, and **Luke** stood there in his casual hoodie. He sighed, the weight of the suit finally gone.
*"Finally! Home!"* **Auru** chirped, flying out from his collar and stretching her tiny wings. *"I missed my pillow! I missed the garden!"*
**Koru** drifted out as a dark, brooding mist. *"Yeah, yeah. Home is great. Now give me food. I've spent my energy holding your memories together and fighting a Devil. I'm starving."*
"You always need food," Luke muttered, walking toward the house. "Can't you think about anything else?"
*"Why should I?"* Koru countered. *"You're thinking about training. Auru is thinking about a 'break.' I'm thinking about a high-energy meal so I don't vanish into thin air. At least my goals are honest."*
"He was so much better when he was silent," Auru mocked, sticking her tongue out at Koru. "Luke, you should make another contract with this lazy creature to keep him quiet."
The Illusion of Luke, standing nearby, started to laugh. "I think you're stuck with him, Luke."
Luke shook his head, waving his hand to dissipate the illusion. He walked through the front door, the familiar smell of home hitting him like a warm blanket. In the kitchen, his mother was humming a tune while preparing dinner. In the living room, **Shuri** was lounging on the sofa, scrolling through her phone.
She looked up as he entered. "There you are! Mom said you went to the city to get 'study materials' after we visited Auron in the hospital. You took forever."
"The bookstore was crowded," Luke lied easily, his voice falling back into the 'Average' tone. "I had to wait for some specific references. I'm heading to my room to get some work done."
"Typical nerd," Shuri teased, turning back to her phone.
Luke climbed the stairs, entered his room, and locked the door. He slumped against it, sliding down until he was sitting on the floor. He took a long, deep breath of relief.
*"We made it,"* Auru whispered, landing on his desk. *"We're safe."*
*"For today,"* Koru reminded him, floating toward the corner of the room. *"But tomorrow, the 98% is still waiting. And those 'Generals' aren't going to stay in the abyss forever."*
Luke looked at his hands—the same hands that had crushed a Devil's soul. He knew Koru was right. Today was for rest, but the clock was ticking.
"One day," Luke whispered. "I'll take one day of peace. Then... we build the Shield."
He closed his eyes, finally letting the silence of the room wash over him. The battle of the Minakawa Cave was over, but the war for the soul of the world had only just begun.
