Chapter 109 - The Paranoia of the Pure Soul

Chapter— The Paranoia of the Pure Soul

The white curtains of the medical wing whipped violently in the wind, a silent testament to the storm brewing inside **Auron's** mind. In the hallway, **Evelyn** and **Celine** spoke in hushed, urgent tones.

"How did he end up like that?" Celine whispered, her eyes fixed on the door. "To see the 'Unique' crushed, his armor in shards... I want to ask him what he saw in that cave."

"Later," Evelyn replied firmly, though her own hands were trembling. "First, we give him time to heal. If his spirit breaks, the world breaks with it."

They pushed the door open to check on him, but the bed was empty. The window was thrown wide, and the only thing left in the room was the fading resonance of a hasty takeoff.

Auron soared over the neon grid of Tokyo, his silver-indigo aura burning with a jagged, erratic intensity. His mind was a fractured mirror, reflecting the Devil's words over and over: *I am in the midst of us.*

"Anyone could be him," Auron hissed, his visor scanning the crowds below. "The neighbor, the soldier, the friend... anyone."

Driven by a desperate, feverish logic, he descended into the city streets. He didn't look for monsters; he looked for masks. He landed in a crowded plaza and raised his hand. **"Aura Purification!"**

A wave of shimmering silver light washed over a group of salarymen. They stumbled, confused, as the energy probed their souls. He moved to the next group, then the next, randomly picking citizens and forcing the purification light into their spirits.

"What are you doing?!" a voice screamed.

Evelyn and Celine had finally intercepted him, landing in the plaza as the crowds scrambled away in fear.

"Auron, stop this!" Evelyn shouted, standing between him and a group of terrified teenagers. "You're attacking civilians!"

"You don't understand!" Auron roared, his hand crackling with energy. "You don't know what power a Node can hold! I have to find it before it takes more of us!"

"We've intercepted seven of them!" Celine argued. "There are only three left! We can handle this systematically—"

"AND ONE IS ENOUGH TO RAISE HUNDREDS!" Auron's voice cracked. "I will use Aura Purification on every person in this city until the Devil shows his face!"

"But you know the cost!" Evelyn cried, her voice breaking. "Aura Purification isn't a searchlight! It... it..."

"It uses our soul, right?" Auron finished for her, stepping forward menacingly. "I know. It requires a connection, a piece of my own spirit's energy to cleanse another. It makes me weak. It makes me vulnerable. I don't care!"

"Auron, please," Evelyn pleaded. "Calm down. We will discuss this together—"

"THERE IS NO TIME!" Auron turned his gaze on her, his visor glowing with a dangerous light. "He is in the midst of us, Evelyn. If you try to stop me, I will suspect *you* as the Node. Don't force me to use the purification on you."

Evelyn froze, the threat hanging in the air like a blade. But before the situation could escalate, a shadow moved behind Auron. **Kaizen** appeared, swift and silent, pressing a high-grade anesthetic injector into the gap in Auron's neck armor.

Auron's power flickered. His knees buckled, and the world tilted. "Wait... no..."

As Auron collapsed into unconsciousness, Kaizen caught him, his face a mask of cold professionalism. "He needs more rest. He's become hyper-active due to whatever trauma occurred in that cave."

"Kaizen... you're here," Evelyn breathed, relieved yet shaken.

"I got the news," Kaizen said shortly. "He faced something that broke his tactical restraint. We're taking him back."

They returned Auron to his hospital bed, keeping him under heavy sedation. Evelyn sat by his side, staring at the silver mask that hid his face, wondering what kind of nightmare could turn their savior into a hunter of his own people.

Suddenly, a tiny, ethereal voice broke the silence. "Evelyn?"

Evelyn jumped, looking around the empty room.

"Down here," the voice said. **Auru** manifested near the pillow, her light dim and flickering. "I am Auron's aura creature. I am sorry to ask this... but can you leave the room? We needs to be alone to rest properly."

Evelyn hesitated, but the plea from the tiny fairy was so sincere she couldn't refuse. She nodded slowly and led Celine and Kaizen out, closing the door softly.

The moment the door clicked, the silver armor dissolved. **Luke** sat up, his eyes snapping open. The anesthetic had been powerful, but his subconscious aura-healing, spurred by the urgency of his mission, had burned through the chemicals in record time.

"I was in a state of despair," Luke whispered, his hands trembling as he clutched the white hospital sheets. "I was losing myself to the fear."

*"You were,"* Auru said, landing on his knee. *"You were scaring them, Luke."*

Koru remained silent in the corner, a dark, brooding shadow that seemed to be absorbing the tension in the room.

"I have to control my emotions," Luke said, taking deep, steadying breaths. "The Devil wants me paranoid. He wants me to burn out my soul using purification on innocents so I'm too weak to fight when he finally strikes."

"What will you do now?" Auru asked.

Luke looked out the window at the Tokyo skyline. The 98% death risk was still there, his friends were still missing, and a Devil was hiding in the skin of someone he trusted. But the frantic panic was gone, replaced by a cold, sharp resolve.

"I have to use my brain, not just my power," Luke said. "We have to find the Node by being smarter than he is. We start tomorrow. I'm going to look for the one person who *didn't* change... the one person whose mask is perfect."
