Chapter 2 - Bound By Fate

Chapter 2

The morning air was crisp, but Aria felt nothing. Her mind was a whirlwind of anger, fear, and confusion. The events of the previous night replayed endlessly—Kael standing in her doorway, his piercing eyes claiming her in ways she could not yet comprehend. She had thought adulthood meant freedom, but now she realized that freedom came with chains she hadn't anticipated.

‎She dressed slowly, carefully avoiding mirrors that reflected not just her appearance but the turmoil inside her. Her wolf stirred beneath the surface, restless and hungry, impatient with her resistance. She had lived her whole life suppressing what she was, hiding from what she could become, and now the very thing she feared most demanded her attention.

‎Downstairs, the pack was buzzing with hushed whispers. Some members stared openly; others glanced away, pretending to be uninterested. Aria could feel their judgment in every glance. Yet even among the gossip, one presence loomed above all—the unmistakable aura of Kael. She could sense him even before she entered the main hall. His wolf was close, a constant shadow, waiting, patient yet insistent.

‎"Aria," he called softly, his voice carrying through the murmurs like a command. She froze. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but the bond pulled her closer. The threads between their wolves vibrated in response to one another, tight and undeniable. She felt herself responding despite her anger, despite her fear.

‎Kael approached, his steps slow and deliberate. He stopped just a few feet away, his gaze unwavering. "You can't ignore this," he said, voice low, almost a growl. "We're bound. Every choice you make, every step you take… it's connected to me now. Whether you like it or not."

‎Aria swallowed hard. Her hands trembled. "You don't understand… you don't get it. I hate you! I've hated you my whole life!"

‎"And I've hated that I wanted you," he admitted. His voice was almost a whisper, yet it carried an intensity that made her chest tighten. "I've hated it, fought it, denied it… but my wolf has always known the truth. You're mine, Aria. You can resist, you can fight, but the bond doesn't lie."

‎Her stomach twisted. The idea of being bound to Kael, her tormentor, her sister's fiancé, her childhood nightmare, was unbearable. "Then we're doomed," she spat, stepping back. "Do you hear me? I will never—"

‎Her words caught in her throat. The threads between them pulsed, tugging at her with a force she could not resist. Her wolf screamed inside her, demanding acknowledgment, craving connection, hungering for the presence of his mate. She staggered slightly, clutching at her chest as a strange mixture of fear and exhilaration washed over her.

‎Kael's eyes softened, but only slightly. "Do you feel it?" he asked, his voice deceptively gentle. "The bond? The way our wolves are pulling us together? You can fight it all you want, Aria… but it doesn't change what we are. What we're meant to be."

‎Aria wanted to scream, to lash out, to deny the truth. Yet deep down, she knew it was useless. Every fiber of her being resonated with his presence. Every heartbeat matched his, even if she wished it didn't. She tore her gaze away, fighting back tears, shame, and something far more dangerous: desire.

‎Later, she found herself alone in the training grounds, seeking solitude, trying to quiet the storm inside her. Her wolf paced, restless and insistent, leaving her trembling and frustrated. She couldn't eat, couldn't think, couldn't sleep. Every second without Kael felt like a void, and yet every second with him threatened to destroy her carefully constructed defenses.

‎"You're avoiding me," Kael's voice rumbled behind her. She jumped, spinning around to face him, fury in her eyes. "Stay back!"

‎"I could say the same," he countered, a small smirk on his face, but it didn't reach his eyes. "You think I want this? You think I enjoy being tethered to the one person who makes my blood boil, the one person I could have spent a lifetime hating instead of… needing?"

‎Aria's breath caught. His honesty, raw and unflinching, struck her in ways she couldn't define. "Then leave," she said sharply, trying to mask the tremor in her voice. "Go find someone else to—"

‎"I can't," he interrupted, stepping closer, the air between them charged with tension. "You think this is about choice? You think my wolf—or mine—would let me?" He stopped just a foot away, and she could feel the heat radiating from him. "You're mine, Aria. And no matter how much you hate me, how much you fight it, how much you scream, that won't change a damn thing."

‎Her heart raced, a conflicting tide of emotions threatening to overwhelm her. Anger. Fear. Desire. Hate. Love. All tangled together in a chaotic knot that left her breathless. She wanted to push him away, wanted to run, wanted to scream that this was wrong, that it was impossible.

‎And yet… she couldn't deny it.

‎The bond was alive, pulsating through her, igniting a fire she had never felt before. The way his presence resonated with her very essence, the way her wolf reacted to his… it was undeniable. Her resistance wavered, and for the first time, she admitted something to herself that terrified her: maybe, just maybe, she didn't want to resist completely.

‎Kael's hand reached out, brushing against hers—not aggressively, not claiming, but testing, gauging, acknowledging the bond. The simple touch sent shivers through her, leaving her trembling and breathless.

‎"You feel it too," he murmured, reading her reaction as clearly as if it were written on her skin. "You can fight, you can deny it… but you know we're connected. Always. Forever."

‎Aria tore her gaze away, forcing herself to step back. "I… I need time," she whispered, voice barely audible. "I can't… not yet."

‎Kael nodded slowly, though the intensity never left his eyes. "Time. Fine. But know this, Aria—time doesn't break bonds. It doesn't change destiny. You can try to avoid me, hate me, ignore me… but you'll come back. Because we belong to each other. Wolves don't lie. They never lie."

‎Aria's mind raced. How could she survive this? How could she live every day knowing the one she despised most was now intertwined with her very soul? The thought was suffocating. And yet… somewhere deep inside, a part of her shivered at the truth of his words.

‎As the sun dipped low on the horizon, she left the training grounds, walking home with her thoughts heavy and her heart in turmoil. Kael's words echoed in her mind: You'll come back. We belong to each other.

‎Her wolf howled in agreement, and she pressed her hands to her ears, willing it to stop. But the howl wasn't just sound—it was promise, warning, and desire all wrapped into one.

‎She knew, with terrifying clarity, that her eighteenth birthday had not been the start of freedom. It had been the beginning of a battle—one that would test her heart, her will, and every ounce of strength she had. And one thing was certain: Kael would not let her go, and her wolf would not allow her to resist.

‎Aria walked into her room that night, exhausted, trembling, and conflicted. She sat by the window, watching the moonlight reflect on the pack lands. She whispered to herself, "How did my life get like this?"

‎And deep inside, a small voice—her wolf's voice—answered: Because you were never meant to be ordinary. You were meant to be claimed.
