I headed for the elevator, my legs slightly unsteady, adrenaline mixed with something close to desire.

I stepped inside and the doors closed, silence pressed against us, thick and electric. He smelled like cedar and sandalwood, refusing to meet his eyes that were burning at the right side of my face.

Halfway down, the elevator jolted slightly a normal mechanical shift but u stumbled and lost my balance. His hands shot out steadying me. Warm strong and firm
My breath caught in my chest
"You alright?" He asked his voice low
"Yesss- I'm fine" I whispered
But his hands didn't move, they were now moving from my hands to my waist, fingers brushing against my body in a way that felt intentional.
He was close to me, dangerously close. His breath on my face.
Swears a little more minutes and we would be making out here.
"You were very impressive back there Amelia looking forward to working with you"
My pulse hammered dangerously "thank you" I said my eyes shifting to his lips
The elevator doors chimed and opened slowly, and then he released me slowly
"Until next time" he said, stepping out
I stood frozen long after he left, trying to understand what just happened.

I grabbed my coffee and headed back to my office
My phone buzzed
Dawn: Are you free now? I'm coming for some hot gossip.
Me: eye rolls… during work hours?
Dawn: pfft who cares, we are juniors now.
Not more than 5mins Dawn was in my office with a box of cookies, she knows my weakness, and came prepared
"So tell me what was he like, you home wrecker" she said smiling and nibbling on her cookie
"Your baby daddy was alright" I said reaching for a cookie
"Alright? You can do better than that chica" Dawn pouted
"Okay fine, he was cute"
"You mean gorgeous" she added
"Yeah I guess, we had an awkward meeting in the elevator" I said
Dawn shifted in her chair and leaned in close
"And by awkward you mean? She said eager to here what I said
"It was nothing, he helped me when I stumbled and we were staring daggers at each other"
Dawn squealed " oh my that was so romantic, did you get his number or business card"
"No he said he'll be in touch"
"You like him" Dawn said with a mischievous glint in her eyes
"As a client yes, he would bring profits to this firm and that's all I want to focus on right now"
"Keep telling yourself that chica" Dawn said standing up " I really hope you open up yourself to love and romance this year, your ex doesn't get the chance to live in your heart" she said comfortingly
I smiled at her as she left my office, She was right, I did deserve to love again, but how could I with everything I went through these past years with Flynn, that ingrate!
I blew an exparasted sigh and got back to work.
