Chapter 20 - The Rise and Fall of Imhotep

Everyone ran inside the temple to take shelter. I was behind Wednesday and Enid at the back while Evelyn, Rick, and Jonathan were in the front. The three American cowboys were in the middle with Beni, not too far behind. I slowly motioned both Wednesday and Enid to slow down as they were not in any real danger with me around. The rest of them did not even notice us.

Enid calmed her breath before asking, "Are we going to stay nearby and let Evy and the rest go to Cairo later?"

I smiled slightly at Enid's observation and replied, "You're getting pretty spot-on. Yes, they have their own way and that is to let them escape to Cairo and for Imhotep to fully regenerate. We still need to stay here for about a few days before Nitocris to restore her soul and create her own body. With the divinity leftover from the Golden Book of Amun-Ra, she should be able to create her ideal body and possess it."

Enid clung to my back before rubbing her face with my cheek.

Wednesday's eye twitched in annoyance before asking, "What about those Medjays outside after we get out? Will we slaughter them or convince them?"

I turned to Wednesday while preventing Enid from falling off my back and said, "Hopefully we can convince them to stand down and let us do our part. If not, I can always have those newly-risen Shadow Medjays who attacked us as well as Mathayus to convince them. Maybe Nitocris can help but I believe Enid will have the best advantage besides you or me."

Enid pointed at herself confused while Wednesday pondered for a bit before her eyes lit up and answered, "The Army of Anubis!! That's the trump card you've thought of. It makes sense since the Anubites are the representation of one of their gods and Enid could be referred to by them as Anubis' spokesperson. Genius!"

I tilted her chin up as my eyes laid upon her own dark eyes and said, "You're the genius for analyzing the information quickly and concluding to the correct solution as I had. You're gotten much keener and more observant during your time in this world. I'm so proud of you, Mi Cuervo."

We went to another part of the underground temple to seek shelter. I release a burst of magical energies to make sure none of the scarabs would come into the room. We were safe for the time being.

In the meantime, Evelyn and her party were wandering the passageways to escape the horde of scarabs chasing to eat them. Evelyn jumped to the side hugging the wall while Rick and Jonathan were isolated on a pillar not too far from Evelyn.

While Evelyn was distracted, she leaned too hard on the wall causing it to activate a switch that opened as she fell in. The wall soon closed on itself without Rick and Jonathan's attention.

Evelyn landed inside a dark passageway with only a few strands of moonlight shining for light. She looked stunned before she nervously looked around the passageway. She sighed a breath of relief when she saw Mr. Burns not far from her.

She approached and said, "Oh Mr. Burns. You scared me...Mr. Burns?"

Evelyn cautiously turned Mr. Burns around and screamed as she found out he did not have any eyes and tongue. She backed away from Mr. Burns as he tumbled on the floor asking for help.

Mr. Burns had trouble asking but he pleaded, "My eyes... my eyes.. he took.. my eyes."

After Mr. Burns said this, the mummified Imhotep stepped out of the shadows and walked slowly towards her. Evelyn screamed as she backed away but Imhotep was still approaching her.

Evelyn turned to Mr. Burns on the ground pleaded, "Please help me..."

Imhotep looked at Mr.Burns before he looked back at Evelyn. He was staring at her and mistakenly asked in Ancient Egyptian, "Anck-Su-Namun?"

He followed with, "Come with me, my Princess Anck-Su-Namun."

Not long after, Rick came barreling through and saw Evelyn. Not long after, Jonathan and the two Americans arrived as well.

He grabbed hold of her and shouted, "There you are. Where have you been? We've been looking for you."

Seeing Evelyn in a daze, Rick looked towards where Evelyn was looking before shouting, "Woah!!"

Imhotep looked at Rick in contempt as he was interrupted and just screamed at his face.

Rick also did the same as he shouted at Imhotep and shot him point blank in the chest.

Rick pulled Evelyn and shouted, "Come on!!"

Rick and Evelyn ran towards the exit along with Jonathan and the two Americans. As they finally got to the surface, they immediately stopped as the Medjays that attacked them were outside waiting for them.

The Medjay leader came up and said, "You were told to leave or die. You refused. Now you may have doomed us all. You have just unleashed a creature we have feared for more than 3,000 years."

Rick sarcastically answered back, "Relax, I got him."

The Medjay leader immediately refuted Rick, "No mortal weapon can kill this creature. He's not of this world."

He stepped aside before two other Medjays carried Mr. Burns to Mr. Henderson and Mr. Daniels. The two men were horrified to see their friend missing both of his eyes and tongue.

Henderson cursed out, "You bastards!"

Daniels also questioned, "What did you do to him?"

The Medjay leader replied, "We saved him. Saved him before the creature could finish his work. Now leave, all of you, quickly, before he finishes you all."

He then signalled his men to go inside to go inside and find the creature. Possibly to slow it down for them to find a solution to end it once and for all.

Evelyn cried out, "Wait!! Our companions, Y/N, Wednesday, and Enid are still inside. Please find them. Let them know we'll be in Cairo when you find them."

The Medjay leader looked on before saying, "No promises. We can only hope they're not dead already. For now, I must now go on the hunt, and try to find a way to kill him."

As he passed by, Rick once again said, "I already told you. I got him."

The Medjay leader turned and looked Rick in the eye and said, "Know this. This creature is the bringer of death. He will never eat. He will never sleep. He will never stop."

After he said that, he turned around and made his way to his men. The hunt for the "immortal" Imhotep had arrived.

Rick and the gang couldn't help but lament at me and the girls' fate down in the temple. They prepared whatever supplies they could find and started their way back to Cairo along with the Americans and their Egyptologist.

While Rick and the gang were heading back to Cairo, Imhotep had already made contact with Beni and started cooperating under the promise of wealth. They went through another passage out of Hamunaptra, avoiding the Medjays looking for them.

It took the whole night of searching before the Medjays came to the conclusion that the creature had left; Most likely in search of the people who opened the sacred box housing the Book of the Dead.

The Medjay leader could only go to Cairo and meet up with Dr. Bey at the Antiquities Museum. As he came outside, his men were pointing their guns at me and the girls.

Confused on what was happening, he told them, "Stand down. What happened? I thought we drove these people away."

One of the trembling Medjays came over and explained, "We didn't know they were here. When w-w-we came to the surface, they were by the campfire. This was over three hours ago. When we approached them, w-w-we felt like we were going to die if we took one more s-s-step. It-t-t was as if-f-f-f there was a dangerous beast watching us. We...kept our distance and waited for you to come back."

The Medjay leader was outright confused how these civilians were able to scare his men from approaching. Keeping his men's reminders in mind, he stepped forward to our location. As he approached, there was no oppressive feeling that came over him and as such left him puzzled if his subordinates were lying to him. He saw a young man chatting with two young girls. He particularly remembered these girls since they killed most of his men last night.

The Medjay leader finally stood across from us and asked, "Hello young friends, we ask that you please leave this place as there is a creature loose in Hamunaptra."

The Medjay leader was being cautious with his greetings but I stood up and walked towards him along with Wednesday and Enid.

I greeted, "Hello Medjay, I'm afraid we have to decline your request. In fact, we have business with you and your fellow Medjay tribes."

The Medjay leader was startled before calming down and asked, "Business?! I believe there's no time for that. The longer that creature is loose, the more danger it poses to the world. Unfortunately we have to force you away from Hamunaptra."

He signaled his men to raise their guns towards us. Unfortunately for him, we had planned for this scenario a long time ago. I turned my head to Enid and gave her a smirk. Enid saw my signal and smiled wildly.

Enid shouted while holding her arm to the air, "Come out everyone!!"

The new Bracelet of Anubis glowed and from the sands, countless Anubites rose up and surrounded Hamunaptra and its surroundings. They were aggressive and ready to kill the Medjays once Enid sends a signal to attack.

The Medjay leader along with his men couldn't help but freeze at the sight of an army that could overwhelm them at any moment. Now he finally believed his men were telling the truth. This type of sight really is an exaggeration if one did not see it for themselves.

I turned to the Medjay leader and chuckled, "Maybe now you would like to talk about my business now? Don't worry, they won't move as long as you don't give any reason for them to attack."

The Medjay leader was sweating buckets before sighing in relief.

He adjusted himself and started over again, "I'd like to apologize to you all. If me or any of my men offended you, I hope you can spare them. I will take all the punishment for them."

The Medjay leader's men heard them and pleaded for their leader. They were worrying for nothing as I never intended for them to die so their worries are for nothing.

I shook my head and replied, "Don't worry, they didn't do anything wrong. After all, they were only trying to protect this place."

I held out my hand to the Medjay leader, "Let's start over, I am Y/N. These are my lovers, Wednesday and Enid. We are wandering mages who study the mysteries of the world."

The Medjay leader looked at my hand before he shook it, "Likewise. My name is Ardeth Bay, Medjay chieftain in charge of protecting Hamunaptra."

I discussed, "We know who you Medjays are. I do apologise for the loss of your men these past few days. We know they were only executing their duties to keep Hamunaptra safe but they failed in the end. The creature escaped but it is within calculations. You may have noticed the Army of Anubites behind me. They were all from the God Anubis. You can think of her as Anubis' priestess or representative."

The amount of information Ardeth had to endure started giving him a headache as his perception of reality doesn't seem to match the one he had seen his entire life. Just the sheer amount of the army is enough to shock his very core and now he was being told that this girl in front of me was the spokesperson for one of their Gods, Anubis.

Ardeth could only kneel in front of Enid, "Forgive my insolence, priestess. We, the Medjay, your humble servants, greet you."

The rest of the Medjays heard their chieftain's words and proceeded to kneel after. To see a living priestess in this time period was a blessing to these Medjays ever since the Pharaohs of Old had long since returned to the Earth.

I chuckled while Enid was laughing her butt off. Wednesday was only shaking head at the idiocy of these Medjays. She believes these people to be easily swayed but she figured it was more from fear than worship that compelled these Medjays.

Wednesday thought, "Truly a moronic tribe. Too afraid to step out and change their own destinies."

I looked at Enid and gestured for her to make them stand up.

Enid stopped laughing and coughed in her hand and said, "It's all right. You had no clue who I was. So stand up while you and Y/N discuss. My Anubites will make sure no one can disturb your meeting."

Enid looked over at her army and told them to keep guard of every entrance and exit to and from Hamunaptra. The Anubites snorted and moved their bodies around Hamunaptra keeping watch. The Medjays could only watch as the tall and mighty Anubites passed them as they followed Enid's command.

I commented, "It seems like our meeting will be a smooth one then. The plan I wanted to tell you is that we already know about Imhotep and his resurrection as well as a way to get rid of him. So I hope you and your men can step aside and let us deal with Imhotep. After all, you and your men have no chance against him when he is fully regenerated. The powers of the twelves plagues of Egypt are nothing to joke about as it was brought by the curse of the Hom-Dai."

Ardeth was confused by his plan but he couldn't help but ask, "You need us out of the way?! That cannot be fulfilled as it is our duty to put that creature to rest. What kind of plan do you have that guarantees your success?"

I rolled my eyes before releasing the Golden Book of Amun-Ra and replied, "This would be a key element in breaking his immortality and making him mortal. After that, he can be killed like any other man. I believe we have that sorted. But before we can do that, we have to let the curse run its course and kill all those who opened the box containing the Book of the Dead. As far as I know, three Americans as well as the Egyptologist opened it and took away Anck-Su-Namun canopic jars. He will return here after completing his mission. When he comes back, we will start reciting the spell to make him mortal and kill him."

The surprises just kept piling up and now he sees the legendary Golden Book of Amun-Ra in the hands of this young man. Seeing Y/N's confident expression, he could only agree to the plan.

Ardeth made a suggestion and asked, "I agree with your plan but I do hope you can let me stay by your side so that I can verify the death of the creature with my own eyes. I can rest easy as well as my tribe knowing the validation of its death. I implore you and the priestess for this request."

I thought about it and knew that it would not change anything. I also looked over to the girls and they looked like they had no problems and agreed.

I looked back at Ardeth and said, "All right then. I'll grant your request so that you may see you and your tribes' lifelong duty finished in your lifetime. I'm sure you and your tribe have carried this burden long enough."

Ardeth's eyes flickered for a moment before his body shook slightly. He remembered the countless rigorous training in the tribe to inherit the duty his ancestors had protected these few thousand years. Countless lives poured their heart, sweat, and tears to perform and guard their duty, only to be swept by the sands of time.

Ardeth held his flickering tears in and muttered, "Thank you, great one. Thank you for your support. Me and the whole Medjay tribe thanks you.

We discussed further plans throughout the day and Ardeth's men brought some food and drinks to pass the time. Ardeth also told us that Evelyn, Rick, and Jonathan were heading to Cairo to wait for them, should we be found.

I thanked him for the information but told him they were staying till Imhotep was dealt with. I also told him that once there was a huge sandstorm nearing Hamunaptra, let his men contact him to relay the message so that we can start the final confrontation.

The night sky had glazed over the land surrounding Hamunaptra. I informed Ardeth that Imhotep should take a few days to reach Cairo, so there was a little breathing room for them. With the final confrontation with Imhotep coming, me and the girls were enjoying the peaceful nights as much as we could.

Back in Cairo, it was two days later since Evelyn and the gang escaped Hamunaptra. She was still worried for our well-being but they were forced to leave despite her protests. They finally came back to a hotel as they unwind from the experience.

The American team also made it back in one piece-well with one damaged companion but still alive. Unfortunately for them, Imhotep and Beni were hot on their trail as Beni was leading the way to Cairo. Imhotep could sense the location of where the cursed victims were as well as the Book of the Dead.

During this time, a messenger hawk was sent to Dr. Bey about the incoming danger and plans to rid Imhotep once and for all. It was the second day before Evelyn started packing her clothes and arguing with Rick about going back to find a way to destroy Imhotep.

Coincidentally, Imhotep and Beni had arrived in Cairo. Beni advised Imhotep to wear a mask and covered himself with black clothing to blend in and not cause a scene before he is fully regenerated.

Beni kneeled in front of Imhotep and said, "My Prince, I will make an appointment with Mr. Burns, the man you initially took both his eyes and tongue, for an audience. Please stay in this room for the time being.

Imhotep only raised his hand before Beni left the room, intending to complete his task. He started looking around the bar area and sure enough he saw the Henderson and Daniels downing liquor like there's no tomorrow. Beni stepped up to them before patting them on their shoulders.

They looked surprised but Henderson exclaimed, "Woah there, little guy. Thought you were dead but glad you got out there in one piece."

Beni thanked them, "Thank you, my friends. I was lucky to stay alive after I ran from the bugs. Where is Mr. Burns?"

Their expressions turned gloomy before Daniels delivered the bad news, "Our friend lost both his eyes and tongue from that monster. I still can't believe something like that was actually real. We're heading out of Cairo and back to America the first boat out of here tomorrow. Don't worry, we'll still pay you the other half of the money."

Beni nodded before asking, "Do you need help with anything else? Perhaps with your bags?"

Henderson said, "Yeah, we could use some help with our luggage. We have a suite with Burns. It's on the third floor. "

Beni nodded, "All right, I'll help you with that soon. Thank you again, my friends."

Beni bid farewell to Henderson and Daniels before heading to Burns' suite. He knocked and opened the door with Burns on the chair trying to drink tea.

Beni announced, "Hello, Mr. Burns. On behalf of the hotel, a prince had asked for your audience. Would you come with me?"

Burns heard the visitor's voice before he mumbled, "Y-yes.."

Mr. Burns steadily stood up before he was led by Beni to Imhotep's room. The door opened and set Mr. Burns to sit face-to-face with Imhotep.

Beni introduced Imhotep, "Mr. Burns, in front of you is a Prince of Egypt. He hopes to be friends with you.

Mr. Burns shakingly tried to extend his hand towards Imhotep and said, "I'm so p-please to me-et you-u.."

But before he could go any further, Beni grabbed ahold of his hand and said, "Sorry, Mr. Burns. The Prince doesn't like being touched. Crazy Egyptian superstition. Prince Imhotep would like to thank you for your eyes."

Mr. Burns' face turned to shock and murmured, "Wha..?"

Beni continued, "And for your tongue."

Mr. Burns became scared, realizing the danger he is in as he said, "Huh?"

Beni announced grimly, "But I'm afraid more is needed. The Prince needs to finish his work and consummate the curse in which you and your friends brought upon yourselves."

Mr. Burns pleaded as much as he could before he screamed as Imhotep took off his mask and consumed his flesh and blood into his own. In a few seconds, Mr. Burns' body was hollowed out as his life came to an end. Ironically, it also gave him release of his painful experience.

Unknowingly Rick and Jonathan were downstairs at the bar along with Henderson and Davids drinking shots of liquor to dull the experience they went through in the past twenty four hours.

Rick toasted everyone before they clinked glasses and took their shots, only to spit them out. All around the bar, everyone also spit out what they were drinking.

Henderson cursed, "What in the hell!! This tasted like..."

Rick dropped his shot glass, shattering it as he stared at the fountain, "Blood."

Jonathan and the others looked at the fountain oozing blood.

Jonathan recited, "And the rivers and waters of Egypt ran red and were as blood."

Rick immediately realizing the danger they were in, he said, "He's here."

Rick ran to find Evelyn leaving Jonathan behind with Henderson and Davids. Not long after, Evelyn was seen walking the courtyard reading a book, hoping to find anything to stop the curse.

Rick yelled out, "Oh, Evelyn!"

Evelyn sarcastically greeted Rick, "Oh, you're still here."

Rick laughed dryly and said, "We've got problems."

Thunder roared in the sky as it started to rain down fire all across Cairo. Both Rick and Evelyn looked up in horror at the catastrophe unfolding with their very eyes. Countless people were taking cover but unfortunately there were some fatalities in the process. While they were distracted, Beni came downstairs feeling his job was done perfectly for Imhotep.

He thought of the reward he was promised and was excited his body started to jitter. He slipped on the stair when he saw Rick and hurried to run back upstairs. Unfortunately for him, Rick heard the noise and caught Beni.

Rick cursed out, "You made a new friend from the desert, didn't you Beni?"

Beni was sweating buckets as he thought of a way to answer before saying, "Friend? What friend? You're my only friend."

Before Rick could do anything else, a loud roar resounded from above them allowing Beni to skedaddle out of Rick's grip. Both Rick and Evelyn ran upstairs and opened the room leading to the noise.

The first thing they saw was Mr. Burns all hollowed out and Imhotep in the process of integrating the life sucked out of Mr. Burns. Imhotep kept twisting and turning before facing Rick and Evelyn as he howled towards them.

Rick, wide-eyed, said, "We are in serious trouble."

He pulled out his pistols and started shooting Imhotep who started to approach him. Unfortunately for Rick, those bullets had little to no effect on Imhotep. When Imhotep was in front of him, Rick was flung to the air but ultimately fell on Jonathan, Henderson, and Davids when they got into the room. Evelyn, who was terrified, backed away from Imhotep as he

approached her. Much to her luck, her white cat got into the room and hit one of the keys on the piano. Imhotep looked at the cat in horror before it hissed at him. He howled in fear as he transformed into a small sandstorm and left the room.

Rick looked at the situation and grimly said, "We are in very serious trouble."

Knowing the imminent danger, Rick and Evelyn along with Henderson and Davids visited the Museum of Antiquities. As they got into the Dr. Bey's office, they were greeted with the Medjays who attacked them previously while Dr. Bey was discussing with one of Ardeth's messengers.

Evelyn yelled, "You?!"

Rick and the rest of them raised up their guns towards Dr. Bey and the Medjays. They just experienced one trouble after the other and now the people that tried to kill them are here in front of them.

Dr. Bey looked over and calmly asked, "Ms. Carnahan. Gentlemen. Would you like me to explain or would you rather just shoot us?"

Rick scoffed, "After everything that happened today, I'm willing to believe in a little faith."

Dr. Bey gestured to Evelyn and her company, "Take a seat and I'll explain what I could about the situation.

Rick and the rest holstered their guns and proceeded to sit down on the chairs.

Dr. Bey stood up front while the messenger just stood by on the side.

Dr. Bey announced, "We are a part of ancient secret society. We are the Medjay, the last protectors of the pharaoh and Egypt. For over three thousand years, we have protected the City of the Dead. We are sworn at manhood to do any and all in our part to stop the High Priest Imhotep from being reborn into this world. And now because of your actions, we have failed."

Evelyn retorted, "And that justifies the killings of innocent people?"

Dr. Bey countered, "To stop this creature? Let me think. Yes!"

Evelyn felt frustrated but she knew their answer was correct.

Rick raised his hand and asked, "Question: Why does he hate cats?"

Dr. Bey answered, "Cats are the guardians of the Underworld. He'll be scared until he's fully regenerated and then he will fear nothing."

Davids hurriedly said, "Yeah and you know how he's gonna fully regenerate."

Henderson murmured, "By killing everyone who opened that chest."

Davids continued, "And sucking them dry. That's how."

Evelyn kept walking around before saying, "When we were at Hamunaptra, he called me Anck-Su-Namun. And again at Mr. Burns' quarters, he tried to kiss me."

Dr. Bey was wide-eyed before commenting, "It was because of his love for Anck-Su-Namun that he was cursed. It seems like even after three thousand years, he's still in love with her."

Evelyn felt a dread as she felt she was caught in a very dangerous situation, no less than the fate beholding Mr. Henderson and Mr. Davids.

Evelyn hesitantly asked, "W-What do I have anything to do about it?"

Dr. Bey thought for a moment before he said, "Maybe he'll try to raise her back from the dead like before."

Ardeth followed, "And it seemed he found his human sacrifice."

Evelyn's feeling came through as she slowly sat down and digested the news she was given. Everyone in the room could only give her space and silence in pity.

Jonathan leaned on one of the statue and let out a huge sigh and said, "Bad luck, old mum."

Dr. Bey comforted them and said, "On the contrary, it may give us time to kill the creature but we should hurry as his powers are growing."

He looked up at the glass ceiling to see the moon eclipse the sun.

Jonathan recalled, "And he stretched forth his hand towards the heavens and there was darkness throughout the land of Egypt."

Evelyn looked back at everyone and said, "Who else is cursed besides Mr. Henderson and Mr. Davids?"

Rick chimed in, "Is my buddy Beni cursed too?"

Davids answered, "No ,he scurried away before we opened that chest. Besides us and Burns, that Egyptology fellow was with us."

Rick shrugged, "That sounds like Beni."

He walked towards the table where everyone was gathered and said, "Right. She stays here. You three, come with me."

Everyone was complaining, especially Evelyn before Rick had enough of it and carried her on his shoulder to her bedroom. He dropped her on the bed before closing the door behind him and locking it. They could still hear Evelyn yelling and banging on the door.

Rick grabbed Davids by the shirt and sternly said, "This door doesn't open. She doesn't come out and no one goes in, right?"

David just nodded and said, "Right."

Rick looked at Henderson and asked, "Right?"

Henderson shrugged and replied, "Right."

Rick let go of Davids and walked towards the door as he shouted, "Let's go, Jonathan. Now!"

Jonathan couldn't even argue back before following Rick. Unfortunately for them, Imhotep had already found Dr. Chamberlain. He hollowed out his life essence as he gained more of a human appearance and an increase of his powers. Imhotep also took the Black Book of the Dead since it was a crucial part of Anck-Su-Namun's return.

At this moment, he saw Rick and Jonathan by the window staring at him. He wanted to teach them a lesson and opened his mouth before a swarm of flies towards them as well as the surrounding civilians.

Thankfully, Rick and Jonathan closed the window before the swarm of flies could get in but the civilians were not so lucky. The civilians were screaming in pain before they became mindless bodies awaiting Imhotep's orders. Their bodies were riddled with boils from their faces to the rest of their body. Their senses dulled under the control of the curse.

Rick and Jonathan ran as fast as they could back to the museum to report their discovery. As soon as they arrived, the whole place was barricaded to impede Imhotep should they arrive here. They ran upstairs in a huff and startled the rest of the people inside.

Rick panted and said, "We were too late. He already got to the Egyptologist. We got more bad news. He got the Book of the Dead."

Everyone in the room took in a heavy breath as their opponent just became stronger.

Dr. Bey calmed them down and told his plan, "We should evacuate as soon as possible. I was informed there is a plan to eradicate Imhotep back in Hamunaptra. We found the Golden Book of Amun-Ra along with the incantations to deprive him of his "immortality." We only require someone to lead him there."

Thanks to Dr. Bey's plan, they all sighed a breath of relief but Rick was vigilant and asked, "And how do you plan to attract him?"

Dr. Bey gave Rick a look before stating, "We have the perfect bait-Ms. Carnahan. After all, he intends to have her as the human sacrifice for Anck-Su-Namun."

Rick and Jonathan shouted, "What?!"

Evelyn was horrified at the idea of being bait. Henderson and Davids were only sympathetic to it since they were in the same predicament as hers.

Rick hurriedly refused and argued, "Nuh-uh! She ain't going."

He pulled out his pistol, pointing at Dr. Bey.

Dr. Bey was still calm as he wasn't fazed by the gun and said, "Then please tell me your plan. Unless you intend to take Ms. Carnahan away from Egypt instead before Imhotep could. With her as bait, not only will she be safe until Hamunaptra, even Mr. Henderson and Mr. Davids might survive. Along with the arrangements we had made, we'll finally put Imhotep to death once and for all."

Both Henderson and Davids' eyes lit up after hearing Dr. Bey's plan and even expressed their acceptance of Evelyn being the bait. She'll be safe anyways so it shouldn't matter. Rick was still adamant with his refusal but Evelyn stopped Rick. She agrees with the plan since it will have the least consequences. Rick could only agree with Evelyn's intervention.

Not long after, they heard a crowd chanting, "Imhotep. Imhotep. Imhotep."

Dr. Bey and the rest gathered by the terrace and saw the huge crowd and said, "We need to go. Now!"

Jonathan ran ahead and said, "I'll get the car ready."

He ran as fast as he could and got to the back door but the hypnotized crowd suddenly appeared.

Faced with no choice, Jonathan turned around and chanted, "Imhotep. Imhotep. Imhotep."

The crowd no longer bothered him thinking he was one of them. Jonathan didn't move much before backpedaling to the car and starting it. He drove the car to the side where everyone else was waiting. They all got into the car before they heard Imhotep's roar in the distance. They zipped through the bazaar before the car slowed down to a halt seeing the crowd blocking their way.

After a moment to think about it, Jonathan stepped on the gas full throttle. The crowd started to grab onto the car and the others. Luckily Evelyn was in the middle so she didn't get caught up with the chaos but Rick was punching the people holding on to them.

Dr. Bey was helping on the side as well but Henderson and Davids were not having a good time. Both of them were entangled as the people had grabbed hold of their necks and finally took them down to the street. The car kept going not knowing that both Henderson and Davids fell out.

Both Henderson and Davids were panicking as they got the people who dragged me off the car off their bodies. They stood up and started shooting their pistols at the incoming horde of people. They managed to keep them at bay until they ran out of bullets. They looked nervously at the approaching people before they stopped all together.

Henderson whispered, "How come they stopped?"

Davids replied, "I don't know but I don't like this at all."

Both of them were panicking as all the heads of the people were looking at the approaching Imhotep. The people made way to them as if he was Moses parting the Red Sea.

Henderson and Davids were trembling as they were now face-to-face with an undead creature, ready to kill and assimilate them into his own. Davids had the bright idea of presenting the canopic jar he took to appease him as did Henderson.

Unknowing to them, their very act only made Imhotep more displeased and killed them in the most gruesome way. After they were assimilated, Imhotep had finally been fully regenerated as well as in possession for the resurrection of Anck-Su-Namun.

Meanwhile, Rick and Evelyn's party got away for a while before they hit a pole. It ultimately disabled the car and cut off their path of escape. The crowd gathered and surrounded them to a corner before they all felt the presence of Imhotep. It didn't take long before Imhotep himself presented himself.

Dr. Bey was a tad bit nervous and said, "It's the creature. He's fully regenerated."

Imhotep spoke in Ancient Egyptian to come with him and he would spare her friends.

Beni translated, "Come with me, my princess. It's time to make you mine forever. Take my hand and I will spare your friends."

Evelyn quips back, "For all eternity, you idiot."

She slowly accepted her fate and plan and walked towards Imhotep.

Rick clearly still disagreed with the plan, pulled out his pistol and said, "No!"

Jonathan and Dr. Bey held Rick back while Evelyn stopped him. She told Rick that she still needs to be taken back to Hamunaptra to perform the ritual.

Dr. Bey agreed with Evelyn and said to Rick, "She is right. Live today, fight tomorrow."

Imhotep was just watching the scene with a crooked smile on his face.

Rick noticed and warned him, "I'll be seeing you later."

Under Rick's reluctant gaze, Imhotep took Evelyn away while Beni went to Jonathan and grabbed the key in his breast pocket.

Jonathan struggled to say, "Hey, that's mine.."

Beni looked at the key with a smirk and thanked Jonathan. Along with his thanks, he scurried back to Imhotep's side before Imhotep ordered the crowd to kill Rick and his group.

Evelyn yelled, "No! No! Let go of me!"

Unfortunately for her, she had no say in the matter as she was basically being held hostage for Anck-Su-Namun's resurrection. The crowd started to chant Imhotep's name as they slowly moved closer to Rick's group. Looking around the area, Rick spotted a manhole cover and threw his torch at the crowd. It slowed them down for a few seconds but it gave enough time for Rick and everyone else to escape.

The whole plaza was filled with people plagued by the boils inflicted by Imhotep. He had no desire to further control these people and let their minds return, only for the plagued crowd to suffer in agony as their bodies were covered in boils. Imhotep took both Evelyn and Beni in a whirlwind of sand towards Hamunaptra, never knowing the final battle would take place there.

Near Hamunaptra, a camp was seen where groups of Medjays were guarding as the chieftains of their tribes had gathered around to talk about the coming threat. Fortunately for them, their duties in which they had served for over three millennia would finally come to an end.

Medjay Chief #1 said, "I cannot believe that the creature will finally be put to an end."

Medjay Chief #2 replied, "I agree. This is wonderful news. We have to thank Chief Ardeth for discovering these people."

Medjay Chief #3 warned, "We appreciate their help but we must not lose vigilance until the creature has been vanquished before our very eyes. Only then can we fulfill our duties as Medjays and begin to build our future."

The rest of the chieftains nodded their heads in agreement. They brought their elite guards to protect the camp as well as join the battle, should their strength be needed.

Everyone was waiting for Imhotep to arrive while me and the girls were right outside the entrance of Hamunaptra. Thanks to the abundant amount of cursed energy, Nitocris finally completed fixing her broken soul and enhanced it. She can now condense her own body with what she had in mind and was enjoying bathing in the sun.

She's currently being fanned by two Anubites while drinking an ice-cold drink. Her powers can now be synchronised with the Bracelet of Anubis and summon her own army as it did come from her in the beginning.

Nitocris yelled, "Is that priest here yet? I'm getting bored waiting. I really want to kill this guy for being the bearer of the Hom-Dai."

The Anubites catering to her couldn't believe that their master had changed and became lazy when there's nothing interesting going on. They sweat dropped and lament their fates as they will be catering to her every whim.

I was still enjoying the comfort given by both Wednesday and Enid in my arms but that beautiful moment was interrupted abruptly by the yelling. I sighed and couldn't keep up with the changes with Nitocris. After she completed her soul, her personality bloomed and no longer had to worry about her impending death.

She became lively and curious about the outside world after a few millennia. Of course she doesn't know much of the modern changes yet for this time period but when we change to a more modern or futuristic world, I think she'll be like a kid in a candy store.

I yelled back, "It should be soon. It's been a few days since they left and we all saw the eclipse happening earlier so he should be here soon."

Enid chimed in, "It was really awesome when we saw the eclipse but I really wanna get out of the desert too."

Wednesday also said, "Agreed."

Nitocris laid back down on her sun lounger and complained, "Oh alright. I hope that priest gets here soon so we can leave. I want to see beyond this desert after we deal with him."

I only shook my head and disregarded Nitocris' complaints. I stood up and walked in front as the annoying feeling I felt started becoming stronger with each passing minute. It was four hours before a Medjay scout spotted an unnatural sandstorm heading their way.

He raised the alarm and all the Medjays in the camp rushed outside. They all looked towards the sandstorm with solemn expressions as the fate of their tribe now lies in the hands of an outsider.

I looked over the distance and faced the incoming danger with revelry as the days have been very monotonous lately. Even so, this danger is very low-level but it's a perfect chance for Wednesday and Enid to exercise their new abilities. I'll interfere if they can no longer stand the pressure. I patted Wednesday and Enid and told them to get ready.

They both stood up and readied themselves. Wednesday brought out the Spear of Apophis while Enid summoned her army of Anubites.

Nitocris jumped out of her lounge chair and looked over with excitement. She will be responsible for depriving that damnable priest of his Hom-Dai curse, which would further consolidate her power.

I slowly said, "It's time. Get ready. This will be your first battle in our long journey across different worlds. Let this battle consolidate your fighting prowess. Fight well. I'll be watching you~"

Wednesday looked at me with a smirk on her face while Enid was giggling in excitement. Nitocris was looking at the girls with envy as she also wanted to have that kind of attention from me. After all, I was the one who gave her the chance to leave and explore this world and the ones after we leave.

After a while, they all looked at the turbulent sand storm in the distance. Not long, it started to shrink and two people were flung out. They were Evelyn and Beni while Imhotep emerged from the sandstorm. He saw us waiting for him and even felt a hint of danger from us.

Evelyn looked over and weakly said, "We're back."

Imhotep smirked and stood in stance and roared as the earth cracked and summoned an army of mummies. They were Imhotep's priests and army loyal to him. They roared and ran towards our way.

Enid saw the rushing army and yelled, "To battle!!"

The Anubites snarled and roared as they rushed with their weapons, intending to slaughter these walking corpses to dust. The moment the two armies clash, dust sets off a chain reaction as all we can hear are the clanging of metal and the defeated howls of the mummy warriors. Countless mummies were torn asunder by the Anubites thanks to their independent thinking and weapon mastery.

Imhotep had seen his army being massacred, was infuriated and once again cast the sandstorm spell to eradicate the Anubites along with all of us. Fortunately Nitocris saw the spell being conjured and countered the spell easily, making it useless. Wednesday was rushing over as she killed her way through and arrived in front of Beni.

She slashed Beni at the wrist and it immediately slipped off the stump. Beni screamed in pain and tried to raise his pistol but he didn't know that his head had already been cut off and launched into the air. Beni watched his body standing as his head was in the air and his consciousness was fading.

Beni thought, "This was a bad idea..."

Beni's fate had finally ended as his corpse plopped down like a sack of potatoes. Evelyn screamed as some of Beni's blood splashed on her. Wednesday had no time to care for Evelyn as she lunged towards Imhotep. She slashed Imhotep over and over again until he was full of cuts. Due to the power inside of the Spear of Apophis, it was hindering the regeneration of the curse.

Imhotep could only shout and yell as he saw his body being torn apart, bit by bit by Wednesday. After a gruelling dismemberment, all that's left of Imhotep was six pieces of his bodies scattered on the sands just like how Set dismembered his brother Osiris. The entire army of mummies had collapsed and the Anubites roared in victory as they slayed their enemy for the first time in a few millennia. They stayed at the battlefield waiting for Enid to issue any new orders.

I smiled and held Enid from behind and whispered, "Congratulations, my love. You did great commanding your army for the first time. Perhaps you deserve a little reward later~"

Hearing the ambiguous tone in my voice, Enid coquettishly whispered, "Oh~ is this exclusive to me or to both of us?"

I smirked and whispered in her ear as my hot breath tickled her, "Of course to the both of you. After all, you'll be sisters in the future. Well maybe we can invite someone else to liven up our night."

Enid glanced lightly at Nitocris on the side and whispered, "Mmm~ that's exciting. Perhaps~"

I only looked ahead and let go of Enid as I signalled to Nitocris to follow us to Imhotep. It was a small trek to where Wednesday and Evelyn are. The Medjays up on the cliffside were also heading to where Imhotep was as they watched the whole confrontation between the creature and the outsiders. I binded Imhotep's body parts with the Shadow Chains to prevent them from reattaching. I looked over at Wednesday as she was still relishing the joy of violence from this battle.

I walked to Wednesday and cleaned her face of the blood she got splashed with and said, "Had fun?"

Wednesday wiped the Spear of Apophis clean and smiled, "Very. Though taking him down was much easier than I thought."

I held her face and smiled gently, "Well he didn't really have much combat experience to begin with. Still you did a wonderful job taking him down by yourself. Let's talk about your reward later ok?~"

Wednesday only hummed in agreement as she was enjoying my touch. I let go of Wednesday after sensing the looks Evelyn was giving us. Evelyn still couldn't believe that her friends of one year could take down Imhotep so easily and felt she was still dreaming. She pinched herself and felt pain, indicating that everything was real.

I stood over Evelyn and teased, "You know, it's funny you had to pinch yourself to think this is real?"

Evelyn had a tick mark on her forehead as she yelled at me, "Of course I thought everything was not real! I thought you were dead when you didn't come to Cairo."

I put away my teasing attitude and said, "Sorry for worrying you but we had to stay here. This was the main reason me and the girls came to this land."

Evelyn could only sigh as she knew that Y/N and the girls were no ordinary travellers. She just accepted this fact and nodded. Not long after, we all hear the blaring sounds of an airplane heading our way. It seemed like Rick, Jonathan, and Dr. Bey was on the plane. They all saw us there along with a cavalry of Medjay heading towards the downed Imhotep.

Rick yelled, "Wilson, land near those people. We found our damsel not in distress apparently."

Wilson replied, "Alright chaps. Hang on!"

Wilson pulled down the plane towards our location and everyone on board the plane screamed at the sudden nosedive.

I was chuckling at the sight of their frightened faces. The others were not doing a good job of hiding their laughter either. The only one not laughing was the dismembered Imhotep, looking at the people who made his plans fail.

The Medjays finally arrived as well as Rick's party and stood not too far from Imhotep. The Medjay Chiefs along with Ardeth were looking at the dismembered Imhotep with hatred as well as Rick and his company.

I stood not far from Imhotep and said to the crowd, "I'm sure you have plenty of anger to vent so I'll give you the chance to do so now. After everyone has vented their frustrations, it will be the time to kill Imhotep once and for all."

Everyone from the Medjays to Rick and Evelyn's group rejoiced as they could beat the crap out of Imhotep for all the damage he had done back then and what occurred recently. I propped him up and let the crowd have at him. One by one, they either punched or kicked Imhotep as well as slicing him up or shooting him with bullets. It took around an hour or so before everyone had calmed down. I clapped my hands and attracted everyone's attention.

I rubbed Nitocris' head and announced, "This person will be the one to deprive Imhotep of his curse and turn him mortal. After he's been turned mortal, he will perish as he has already been dismembered to begin with. Also allow me to introduce her, her name is Nitocris and holder of the Golden Book of Amun-Ra. You may also know her previous name, the God Anubis."

Silence filled the air as the mouths of everyone were hanging down to the floor. Eyes were bulging out as the shock from my words had left their brains blank. A living god is in front of them and it was their God Anubis. Ardeth could understand Enid being the priestess but this person in front of them is a real-life living god on Earth.

Nitocris puffed her face in annoyance and slapped my hand away, even though she enjoyed the treatment she just received from me. She then held the Golden Book of Amun-Ra in one hand and held a staff with the other. To increase her prestige with these people, she summoned a few Anubites as bodyguards.

The crowd calmed down a little before Ardeth kneeled down to show his respect to Nitocris. Like a domino, one Medjay after the other kneeled before everyone was showing their respect to the living god. Evelyn, Rick, and Jonathan just gave a bow to express their respect. Imhotep, on the other hand, heard the conversation and looked over to Nitocris in shock and stopped resisting. It's one thing to die to mortals but it's a relief to die for a god.

Nitocris only nodded at the reverence she received from these mortals. She looked over to me with a puffed face while I only smiled gently at her. She looked at my face in a trance before she felt a strong heartbeat come over her before she looked away with a beet red face. She shook her head and walked towards Imhotep's body. The Medjays stood up and made way for her.

When she arrived in front of Imhotep, she only shook her head in displeasure. Once Imhotep was a high priest favored by the Gods yet for love, he forsake it all at the cost of angering the very gods he worshipped.

She opened the Golden Book of Amun-Ra and recited the ancient spell depriving Imhotep of his immortality and the Hom-Dai curse. It floated from the body parts of Imhotep before they merged with Nitocris' body. Now that her power had been stabilized and empowered, she can now use every spell Imhotep knew without the using the Golden Book of Amun-Ra. She put away the Golden Book of Amun-Ra as well as the Black Book of the Dead.

She walked towards me and whispered to my ear, "There you go. Don't forget your promise. I want to see the world after."

I only smiled, which led her to smile and walk to her sunbathe again on her lounge chair.

Ardeth looked over at Imhotep and yelled, "Ahhhhhh!! Our duty is done!"

The Medjays heard the shouting and yelled in celebration. The Medjays chiefs had tears in their eyes as their life-long duty had finally been completed in their lifetime.

Ardeth and the chieftains looked over to Nitocris relaxing and yelled, "We Medjays, thank Lord Nitocris for allowing our duty to be fulfilled."

Evelyn, Rick, and Jonathan looked over with happy faces as their nightmare was finished. Jonathan couldn't wait to grab the treasures in Hamunaptra while Evelyn and Rick kissed each other, finally confirming their relationship.

Wednesday and Enid looked over the crowd and felt it was definitely an ending these people would prefer rather than the original ending. I held both Wednesday and Enid's waists and watched the celebration these Medjays were doing.

I said to the girls, "Our time in this world is coming to an end. After we grab what we need in England, it will be the time to say our goodbyes here."

Wednesday just hummed and Enid just leaned closer to me. I understood their behavior as they accepted my words. The corpse of Imhotep was exuding smoke from its body. Unfortunately, I can only postpone it until it's dark.

The Medjays just kept thanking all of us and tried to bring gifts but we just rejected them all as we let them know they will need it more than we do. I asked them to let Ardeth come by later on. They just nodded and told us they will bring him back later.

After some time, Ardeth came by and asked, "I heard you were looking for me. Is something the matter?"

I patted his shoulder and said, "I believe it should help your situation concerning Egypt and its neighboring countries. I suggest going over to the kingdoms of Hejaj and Najd to start developing your forces there. I can only say that if you can develop that area well, you and your people will be able to live with the rest of your descendants in luxury. Perhaps at least a century worth of wealth. My suggestion is to annex the powers in those kingdoms and combine into a country. You'll be able to support Egypt with the riches of that land. I believe you know what oil is. That land is blessed with an overabundance of oil. The only difficulty is to dig up those oil wells and make a profit with the sales from it. I hope you and the Medjays can seize this opportunity and prosper under your command."

Ardeth couldn't believe what he had heard as it made his mind go blank. This information was enough to make the entire Medjay tribes to bow down their heads to this person yet it was given so easily as if it had no meaning to me. It was as if the information given was as useless as the sands of the desert.

Ardeth couldn't calm down and was fumbling his words, "Thank you, Your Grace. T-This is a god-send to alleviate the pressures of our livelihood and even prosper. I will relay your words to the other chieftains. I, thank you for me and my tribesmen. We owe you our gratitude."

Ardeth bowed his head but I caught his shoulder in time and told him, "It's not a big deal. After all, you and your tribesmen will have to do the hard part. Everything you do with my information will be from your own efforts. You are a great warrior and leader. I hope you continue to be the man you are today and stick to your ideals. Do not be corrupted with wealth as it will always come and go. Lead your people well."

I left right after saying these words and took Imhotep's corpse into the Shadow World. I didn't give any chance for Ardeth to come back from his stupor and left the area with Wednesday and Enid as well as Nitocris.

By the time Ardeth woke up, I was nowhere in sight and just sighed at the magnanimous advice he was given. He had to go back to the chieftains and discuss this as this concerns their future. He got on his horse and went to the tribe's camp nearby. They were still celebrating when Ardeth came back, not knowing what's to come will change their lives forever.

Everyone was sucked into the Shadow World where Imhotep's corpse was deposited.

I stood not far from his corpse and announced, "Arise."

A burst of shadow bloomed from Imhotep's corpse before it resembled a man with a jackal's head in an Egyptian priest's clothing. The shadow kneeled in front awaiting for its orders.

I commanded, "Your name is now Hoth. You shall be protecting Nitocris as her guardian shadow. Now, dismissed."

"Hoth" immediately looked over to Nitocris and stayed in her shadow. Nitocris was surprised she would get protected by Imhotep's shadow.

Looking at her surprised gaze, I reminded her, "Can't be too careful. I'd rather you have a bodyguard next to you than having not. At least with Hoth's security, he can act independently and you don't need to consciously summon your Anubites."

Nitocris was touched by the heartfelt concern for her coming from me. It was only a few months they knew each other but she felt I was being treated like a companion for life instead of a follower. She bit her lower lip before she let go and calmed down. She started to think about what she could do to help me. I saw Nitocris thinking but I didn't interrupt her.

I looked over to Wednesday and Enid and said, "We're almost done with this world. After hitching a ride with Rick, Evelyn, and Jonathan, we'll grab the Dagger of Set along with the ruby empowering it and say farewell to them."

Wednesday looked at me and said, "Really? I hope the next world will be more interesting than here. After spending a year here, I feel like I've grown stronger but knowing the future ahead of time did dampen our curiosity."

Enid agreed with Wednesday and replied, "Mhm! Mhm! It got boring after watching that movie. It's great to see it in front of you but I would rather find out myself and explore everywhere."

I just agreed to their suggestion and said, "All right. Next world, I won't spoil the timeline nor the plot of the world. But you must remember to be cautious in what you do. As much as I want to protect you both from harm, I know that's not feasible. I believe you'll take your safety as precedence. Have fun and explore the next world. We don't have to stick together and explore what you want to explore. You have enough protection from what I've seen earlier."

Both Wednesday and Enid just grabbed each of my arms as they had satisfied expressions on their faces. Well Wednesday is more of a smirk than a happy smile while Enid was giggling like a puppy. Nitocris on the other hand, was still deep in thought. We just left her inside until she wanted to come out. It was still in the afternoon before we met up with Evelyn and Rick.

Evelyn came up and excitedly said, "Y/N, where have you been? We couldn't find you anywhere. Jonathan offered to find you inside Hamunaptra but I think he's just looking for the treasure room."

Rick just laughed from the side before he got elbowed by Evelyn and hurriedly said, "Yeah, we tried looking for you too."

Enid was just laughing at the obvious couple's entanglement while Wednesday just shrugged and leaned against me.

I looked over at Hamunaptra and shook my head and said, "You didn't have to worry seeing as you saw how we took down Imhotep. But I do apologize for making you worry about disappearing so suddenly. Oh, Jonathan shouldn't find anything inside since I cleaned the treasure out. Speaking of which, here's some bags of treasure I took for you, Rick, and Jonathan to use for a lifetime. Hopefully it would help with your new relationship. Oh.. be sure to exercise caution on how much you can give Jonathan considering his history on splurging wealth."

I waved my hand and six big bags of golden treasure were seen glistening from the top of the bags. Eyes were popping out of Evelyn's and Rick's eyes as gold just appeared out of thin air. But they soon calmed down as they realized it was through my power it appeared. They just thanked me for the gift. At least they weren't going back home empty-handed besides finding each other's company.

I said to Evelyn and Rick, "Let's go fetch Jonathan and get back to Cairo. I'm sure you want to go back to England to enjoy the riches you just received. Plus it's time to relax after this world-ending event."

Evelyn agreed and Rick ran off to grab Jonathan. Thankfully the Medjays were more than willing to help look for Jonathan. As thanks for helping us get Jonathan quicker as well as navigate back to Cairo, I left them one-fifth of the treasure from Hamunaptra.

I can never get tired of them looking like a shocked Enel from One Piece as soon as they see something they couldn't believe their eyes on. Either way, they thanked me and the group for being so selfless.

Jonathan finally came out of Hamunaptra and panted, "My.. treasure.. gone.."

Everyone laughed at Jonathan's embarrassment but soon Evelyn quickly reminded her brother that they already had the treasure with them as well as his cut of it. Jonathan was immediately energized and went straight to the bags of gold.

The Medjays came by and gave us horses for travelling the desert back to Cairo along with a few camels for transporting their part of the treasure. I did remind them that I could always take it in my Shadow World and return it back when they land in England but before Evelyn could speak, Jonathan swooped in and refused with no hesitation at all. He wanted to savour the gold and treasure with his own hands for the duration of the trip back. Wednesday just shook her head at the blatant greed but that's Jonathan for you.

I laughed and thought, "Never change, Jonathan. Never change."

A few more days passed by and they finally returned to Cairo in one piece. Rick went ahead and booked us a ship back to England. It would take a month or so but at least they were safe. We tagged along to see the sights in London as well as pick up the Dagger of Set. We were left alone to do what we wanted before we set off for England.

I summoned Anet, Mathayus, Hoth, and Nitocris as these final days will be the last time they visit their homeland unless we return to the time when it was still thriving back in the Old Kingdom. They went their own ways to reminisce and say their farewells before meeting back the night before our ship leaves.

Mathayus and Hoth went to the pyramids of Giza while Anet and Nitocris stayed besides me. They had no motivation to see this land since Anet just wants to stick to me while Nitocris wants to enjoy this future land and compare it to back then.

So far, Nitocris can only say she prefers the city in this day and age. Shopping at the bazaar was a huge temptation for Nitocris as she sees so many different, yet wondrous things inside. Even Wednesday, Enid, and Evelyn were dragged into this shopping craze.
