PROLOGUE
Kaina had always wanted to be a Hero. She had wanted to save people, and for some time she had even achieved that dream, but now as she stared at her hands, she saw nothing but blood.
Blood that was spilled for no reason. Blood that was spilled without any justice.
She had wanted to save people, but now she had become nothing but a killer, and the person responsible for it was in front of her.
"I am done," she declared, throwing back the file the Head of HPSC had just handed her for another one of his needless missions.
"What do you mean you are done?" he began as he adjusted his glasses behind that desk.
"I am done being your personal assassin. This is not heroism. This is unnecessary cruelty, and I will not be a part of it anymore," and with that, her decision was made. She could no longer bear the sight of her own reflection in the mirror.
She could no longer live with the doubt that she was doing something criminal. She wanted to smile. To stand tall. She wanted to have no doubt in her heart.
"Is that so?" the man adjusted his glasses as he looked her in the eye.
"Yes," she was resolute in her decision.
"Then I believe I have no choice but to do this," and with that, she saw him press a button as sirens began to ring all over the room.
TEENTAAWN! TEEENTAWN!
"Intruder alert! Intruder alert!" and her heart sank as she saw him smile.
"Did you really think I would let you leave?" he mocked, as a chuckle escaped his lips. A dark and hateful chuckle, which made her grit her teeth.
"You are a pawn, and since I am a generous enough man, I will give you half a minute to rescind your words, for otherwise I will have the entire machinery of the HPSC turn onto you," and the implication was obvious.
"After all, we cannot have a traitor in our Halls now, can we?" and he was threatening her, confirming the doubts which had been eating away at her for months.
Kaina Tsutusmi had joined the HPSC with the belief that she was making the world a better place, and yet for the last few years, she could no longer be sure. The missions had continued to grow more and more absurd, and she could smell the hints of personal vendettas' favoritism and animus from them all, and this just proved her point.
The person in front of her. He was not the one who had recruited her. He was a twisted excuse of a human being who had been using her and his position for his own personal gains.
She tried to run towards the window to escape, only for steel shutters to drop, cutting off her exit, as the man smiled ominously as she heard a dozen footsteps coming for her.
"Tick Tock," he warned, and Kaina felt her heart sink as the realization dawned on her that her life was about to be ruined. That she was about to lose everything, and the realization made her chuckle.
"You truly are a monster," she whispered.
"No. I am not the monster, Kaina. It is you who is the monster. My monster, and it is time you understand that I hold your leash, so you will do as you are told. Is that understood?" and Kaina could feel her spirit crumble in that moment as she realised that there was nothing that she could do.
She had promised herself that she would not go back to being a hitman for him. But she had no other option now, and in that moment, a young face popped into her mind, belonging to one of her youngest kouhai's who had also entered the HPSC.
He was so young and full of potential, and as she imagined him suffering just like her.
She could not bear that. She could not let that happen.
CLICK! CLICK!
And in that moment, her fabled right arm folded on itself as she aimed the barrel at the President's face, refusing to let her juniors suffer the same fate as her.
And of all the things he could have expected, this was not amongst them. The surprise was evident on his face as he paled and balked wildly.
"What do you think you are doing! You will hang for this!" he lashed out, and she chuckled dryly, as the door behind her was thrown open.
"I know, but I won't let others suffer like I have. I won't let that happen..." and with that, just as the room exploded behind her, the bullet left the barrel, and with the distance in between them, it was impossible for her to miss, as a sense of freedom and satisfaction overcame her in those moments.
"NOOOOO!" and heroes and guards exploded into the room, yet before the bullet could pierce his mind she a green hue appear in front of the man, as her heart sunk.
"No..."
"Barrier!"
CLING!
And the bullet was stopped in its track as it hit the green barrier, as Kaina jumped forward and shot once more using a different angle, but another barrier stopped her attack, and then another.
"KILL HER! KILL HER!" the President ordered.
"SHE HAS SIDED WITH THE VILLAINS! AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE HPSC, I ORDER YOU TO KILL HER!" and by now she was right in front of the bastard, and she knew that she could not let him live.
She had to take care of him.
"DIE!" and yet before she could shoot him, her last bullet was stopped once more by that very green barrier, and just as the light began to fade from her eyes, she saw that bastard smile as her young protege appeared infront of her.
And in that moment, she both loathed and pitied him, for he had robbed her of the only salvation she could have had, and the look in his eyes made her gut twist as she tried to give him a warning.
"You... will be... no.... her..." and yet that was all that she could utter before darkness took her away, and she wondered in those moments if she would ever wake from its embrace.

And he could not but smile as he saw the light fade from her eyes, and to think that her demise were brought on by her own protege. It was a shame to lose a pawn such as her, but no matter.
He had him.
Young as he was, Hyakuya Yuichiro dwarfed Kaina's potential and would make a far more useful pawn to him.
"Take her away," he ordered as he adjusted his glasses, and the guards all moved towards only to halt midway, as barriers rose around the three of them, blocking them out.
"You are not going to lay a finger on her," the boy's voice tore through the silence, and as he turned towards him, he felt a chill run down his spine as that gaze turned to him.
"She is a criminal! Are you protecting a villain!" he lashed out, and in that moment, he saw a green cube appear in his palm as the young prodigy turned to face him.
"Asteroid!" and it shot towards him like a bullet and tore his shoulder, as he screamed.
"AHHHH!" he writhed on the ground.
"You will hang for this! You VILLAIN! Both of you!" and the guards began to move as they tried to penetrate his barriers, but he knew better. They wouldn't succeed.
"The only villain I see here is you!" the boy snarled as a chill ran down his spine, as he readied another attack.
"What do you want! Tell me!" he offered, for he had to survive. He had to live.
"I want you dea..." yet before the boy could say anymore, another familiar voice tore through the silence.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, Yuichiro..." and suddenly the ground underneath them tore up, as a storm of feathers rose into the air and surrounded them as Hawks flew into the room.
"And by now that glowing green cube was inches from his face, while the feathers all surrounded him..." and the two looked at each other, as the boy's eyes narrowed.
"Do you really think that you are fast enough, Hawks-san..."
