Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: Choosing to Go Head-On

[The Helicarrier, Bridge Command Hall]

Orders were issued one after another from Nick Fury's mouth.

Agent Hill hurried toward the broadcast console, preparing to issue an evacuation notice for all non-combat personnel.

Clang!

Suddenly, a grenade trailing white smoke landed right in front of her.

"Grenade!"

The scream burst out of her throat. At the same time, sparks filled her vision, and the shockwave slammed into her eardrums and body.

Agent Hill was instantly blasted off her feet and sent tumbling down the stairs.

After the explosion, the bridge hall was choked with smoke.

Several intruders burst in one after another using tactical movement.

Nick Fury, who had already taken cover nearby, cleanly dealt with three of them, but another enemy farther away took aim at him.

Bang!

At the critical moment, a lifesaving gunshot rang out. Agent Hill, her face covered in blood, eliminated the threat and saved Director Fury.

"There is an enemy intrusion. Repeat! Enemies have breached S.H.I.E.L.D. facilities…"

The emergency warning over the broadcast was hysterical as Agent Coulson, his expression grim, arrived at the entrance of a certain secret warehouse.

The security level of this warehouse was so high that even Agent Coulson needed fingerprint and retinal scans to unlock it…

There had to be something big hidden inside.

———

The scene cuts back to Corin's battlefield.

The Hulk was frozen solid, and the crisis was temporarily resolved.

But Agent Natasha was frozen stiff. She felt like even her chest was about to stick to her tight combat suit.

She shivered as she slowly turned her gaze toward Corin and said, trembling,

"Hey~ Superman, is there… any way to help me… warm up?"

Only then did Corin notice how miserable Agent Romanoff looked.

Her striking red hair had frozen white, stiffly sticking out.

Her already pale skin looked even more bloodless under the cold. Frost clung to her eyelashes, and the white mist from her breath was no longer very thick.

She was clearly frozen half to death.

"Sorry."

As he spoke, two dark-red beams shot out from Corin's eyes, skillfully helping Agent Natasha thaw out.

Corin's freezing target had been the Hulk, but he hadn't expected Romanoff, standing some distance away, to get caught up as well. Once again, he silently marveled at just how wide the area of effect of that freezing breath really was.

The warmth from the heat vision spread, and Romanoff's hair instantly thawed, melted droplets sliding down the ends.

Looking at this familiar ability of Corin's, Natasha felt extremely conflicted. On one hand, she marveled at how freakish he was. On the other, she realized this was literally Superman's power.

'Comic book heroes coming into reality, much?'

But when she thought of Corin's money-grubbing nature, she still couldn't exactly admire him.

Then another question popped up in her mind, 'Can Corin actually fly?'

Leaving aside Natasha's wild thoughts after witnessing Corin's abilities.

In the brief moment while Corin was warming Natasha up, cracking sounds came from the ice encasing the Hulk.

The sound was faint, but it didn't escape Corin's ears.

BANG!

"ROAR!"

Clink! Clank!

The next second, the enraged Hulk broke free from the ice. The block exploded instantly, chunks of ice large and small blasting outward with considerable force.

The Hulk was extremely furious now. The low temperature earlier had made him suffer badly and pushed his rage to the limit.

Relying on pure combat instinct, the Hulk's gaze locked onto Corin once more.

But suddenly, a figure flew in and slammed the Hulk away, knocking him several meters back and sending him skidding across the ground.

It was the God of Thunder.

After being blasted away by the Hulk, Thor had smashed through two walls and ended up in an unfamiliar area.

Everywhere he looked seemed more or less the same, and Thor nearly got lost. He could only retrace his path through the hole he'd made, but the jagged steel and tangled cables slowed him down.

When he finally returned to the place where Banner was fighting, he saw the transformed Banner roaring at Fate.

Out of instinct to protect a friend, Thor charged in again without hesitation, this time with his hammer in hand.

Thor realized that facing a berserk Banner without using the hammer would really take some effort.

And so, right in front of Corin, Thor and the Hulk began another round of combat.

Boing!

Watching Thor swing the hammer in a full arc and smash it upward into the Hulk's chin, even Corin felt it hurt just looking at it.

"Damn… that's brutal. If that were anyone else, their brains would've exploded on the spot… the Hulk's head is really tough."

After taking such a heavy blow, the Hulk was somehow still fine.

As the Hulk answered back with another punch to Thor, Thor once again turned into a human cannonball, flying straight toward Corin.

Corin raised a hand and braced Thor's back, helping him dissipate the tremendous force of his backward flight, shaking his head slightly.

"These two fighting, there's only one way to describe it: simple and brutal."

The Hulk's only disadvantage against Thor was that he couldn't lift Thor's hammer.

The fight between Thor and the Hulk was all bone-crushing blows and massive destruction. In no time at all, the huge workshop was unrecognizable.

Corin lightly patted Thor on the shoulder.

"Prince, take a breather."

Thor discreetly wiped away the blood about to drip from his nostril. It had been a long time since he'd experienced such an exhilarating fight.

Since his good friend had spoken, he should give him some face.

Definitely not because he was a little tired. Absolutely not.

"Be careful. That big guy is vicious…"

After giving Thor a reassuring smile, Corin charged toward the Hulk under Agent Natasha's astonished gaze.

"Shit! Does he really think he's Superman?"

In Romanoff's eyes, what Corin was doing right now was clearly not a rational choice.

With such outstanding long-range attack methods, why choose to go head-on with a Hulk whose strength was his greatest asset?

'Foolish. Completely foolish…'

But in Thor's eyes, Corin charging at the Hulk looked perfectly natural.

"This is what a warrior should look like! My friend! Get him!"

He watched with eager anticipation, curious what kind of surprise Corin would bring.

At this moment, Corin's figure rapidly grew larger in the Hulk's eyes, and that was exactly what the Hulk wanted.

In his not-so-clear mind, he much preferred close-quarters brawling.

BOOM!

A fierce punch shot straight into the Hulk's guarding arms. Under the impact of the immense force, the Hulk's massive body turned into a green cannonball and flew off into the distance…

Crash!

The thick body smashed through countless steel structures. The third-level aircraft maintenance hangar was nearly destroyed.

The Corin who had just been criticizing Thor and the Hulk for fighting like savages now turned into a melee mage, blasting the Hulk away in an even more savage manner.

"Yes!"

Seeing that arrogant giant get sent flying by Corin in a single move, Thor, who had just been suppressed by the Hulk, instantly turned into a cheering spectator and pumped his fist in delight.

"Oh! My! God!"

Natasha had almost instinctively closed her eyes just now.

She really couldn't bear to watch Corin, who was far smaller than the Hulk, get crushed flat.

But she hadn't expected Corin to be this overwhelming, sending the Hulk flying in a single exchange.

She knew full well that she had once roughly estimated the Hulk's weight to be at least 1,500 pounds, nearly 700 kilograms.

Thor came from the divine realm and couldn't be judged by common sense. Trading blows evenly with the Hulk made sense. After all, he was a god.

'But you, Corin, what's your deal?'

'Using a mortal body to directly overpower a Hulk that could suppress the God of Thunder?'

Not only tanking it, but seemingly gaining the upper hand. It was absurd beyond absurd. Absurdity had opened the door to absurdity, it had gone all the way home.

Corin couldn't hear inner thoughts and didn't know what Natasha was thinking. Even if he did, he wouldn't care.

He rolled his wrist. That last strike had let him directly feel just how tough the Hulk's body was.

He was very certain that a Hulk whose anger had been ignited would only grow stronger as the fight went on, and that an ordinary punch like that wouldn't pose any real threat to him.

Just as Corin expected, the ground beneath his feet began to shake as the Hulk came charging back from the direction he'd been sent flying.

Like a freight train barreling straight at him, carrying massive momentum, the Hulk was in front of Corin in the blink of an eye.

Already-shattered facilities were reduced to even more wreckage as the Hulk charged through…

Thump!

Timing it perfectly, Corin bent his knees slightly, leapt up, and spun into a backflip, whipping his right leg out. His heel struck the Hulk's chin dead on.

Whether you called it a bicycle kick or a heel blade didn't matter. In any case, it was a move even Thor had never seen before.

The Hulk's forward momentum was instantly reversed. His neck stretched long as his head snapped upward, his entire body lifting off the ground.

Crash!

The ceiling of the Helicarrier's third level was smashed open by the Hulk.

With a single kick, Corin successfully sent the Hulk up to level four.
