Chapter 44 - Chapter 44 Master of the void

The return to Ryōzanpaku was quiet, but the atmosphere had shifted.

As Lucifer, Raven, and Shigure stepped through the gates, the other masters were already waiting in the courtyard.

They didn't look at the scarred mountain travelers with curiosity; they looked with the heavy, solemn anticipation of those who had sensed a new power being born.

Hayato Furinji, the Elder, stood at the center, his hands tucked into his gi.

His massive frame seemed to hum with an energy that made the very air vibrate.

Beside him, Kenichi was doing squats with a giant boulder, pausing to gape at Lucifer's new charcoal-colored blade.

"You have returned from the forge,"

the Elder boomed, his voice echoing like thunder.

"And you have brought a 'coldness' back with you. Shigure... you have outdone yourself. That blade does not belong in this era."

Shigure bowed low, Tochūmaru mirroring the gesture on her shoulder.

"It is... his heart. I only... gave it shape."

The Elder turned his sharp, piercing gaze to Lucifer.

"A weapon is only as strong as the man who wields it. You have been a guest, a student, and a shadow. But before anything, I must know: Have you truly mastered the chaos inside, or are you just hiding behind that spatial rift?"

Lucifer stepped forward, the Void-Seeker hissing softly as it rested in its scabbard.

"I'm ready to prove it, Elder."

"Good!"

The Elder's grin was terrifying.

"A sparring match. I will use only 10% of my power. If you can land a single, meaningful strike—or survive three minutes without using your Force Field—I will grant you my approval and the secret of the Furinji Style's core."

The masters moved to the edges of the courtyard. Raven stood perfectly still, her violet eyes locked on Lucifer.

She didn't offer to help; she knew this was the final validation he needed.

"Begin!"

The Elder didn't move fast; he simply was there. In an instant, a massive palm strike was inches from Lucifer's chest.

Lucifer didn't panic. He used the Ryuusui Kinntyou (Flowing Water) movement he'd observed from Miu, pivoting his body just enough to let the strike pass.

The wind pressure alone from the Elder's "10%" strike tore the sleeve of Lucifer's combat suit.

Lucifer unsheathed the Void-Seeker. He didn't swing wildly. He channeled the Fist of Destruction into his grip and projected a localized Void-Wave to dampen the Elder's momentum.

Clang!

The Elder's bare forearm met the matte-charcoal edge of the blade.

To Kenichi's horror, the blade didn't bounce off; it began to sink into the Elder's skin.

The True Cutting property was working, but the Elder's ki was so dense it acted as a physical barrier.

"Ho ho! It bites!"

the Elder laughed, his aura expanding.

The Elder launched a flurry of strikes. Lucifer was pushed to his absolute limit.

His Healing Factor was working overtime just to repair the internal damage caused by the shockwaves of the Elder's near-misses.

He was a blur of charcoal steel and spatial tears.

At the two-minute mark, Lucifer saw his opening.

He used Fundamental Insight to predict the micro-second of lag in the Elder's reset.

He didn't use a wave. He used a Void-Point Thrust.

He concentrated all his spatial energy, his martial discipline, and his chaotic will into the very tip of the Void-Seeker.

The world seemed to slow down. Lucifer lunged.

The blade pierced through the Elder's ki shroud, through the outer layers of his legendary skin, and stopped exactly one millimeter deep into the Elder's shoulder.

The Elder stopped.

The wind died down. The courtyard was silent.

A single, tiny bead of red blood appeared on the Elder's shoulder—the first time anyone in Ryōzanpaku had seen him bleed in years.

"Time,"

the Elder announced, his voice filled with genuine warmth.

He looked at the small nick on his shoulder, then at Lucifer, who was gasping for air, leaning on his blade to stay upright.

His Healing Factor was steaming, visible vapors rising from his skin as it repaired the massive strain on his muscles.

"You didn't use your 'Shield' once,"

the Elder noted.

"You relied on your body, your blade, and your mind. You have tamed the chaos, Lucifer. You have found the 'Stillness' within the 'Void'."

The Elder stepped forward and placed a massive hand on Lucifer's head.

"I approve of you, but as a Martial Arts practitioner. You are the Master of the Void."

As the Elder's words settled, the System chimed in Lucifer's mind, the notifications cascading like a waterfall.

[Objective Complete: Master the Martial Arts of a Tier 2 World]

[System Progress Update: $500,000 (Elder's Approval Bonus)]

[Current Funds: $9,475,000]

[Hakai No Ken Mastery: 100% (MAX)]

[Void-Blade Mastery: 80%]

[New Passive Unlocked: Martial Art Master's Presence - Your strikes now carry the weight of a martial art master intent.]

Shigure walked over, sheathing her own sword.

She didn't say anything, but she reached out and wiped the sweat from Lucifer's brow.

Tochūmaru squeaked, a sound of pure triumph.

Raven stood beside him, her hand sliding into his.

"Your training here is complete, Lucifer. The data is absolute. You have exceeded all predicted growth parameters."

Lucifer looked around at the masters—the men and women who had broken him and remade him.

He looked at Kenichi, who was inspired (and still terrified), and at Miu, who gave him a respectful bow.

"It's time to go home, I think…"

Lucifer said, his voice now carrying the resonance of a true master.
