Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 — The Office Arrangement

The elevator glided smoothly to the top floor of the skyscraper, and when the doors opened, Jace stepped into the space that mirrored his personality: sleek, imposing, and perfectly controlled.

His office was massive, stretching across half of the top floor. Floor-to-ceiling windows showcased the city below, while minimalist decorations exuded luxury and precision. A spacious lounge sat in one corner, complete with a plush sofa and a small library, and a resting room lay tucked discreetly behind sliding glass doors. Every detail spoke of power, control, and impeccable taste.

The Setup for Selena

Jace's assistant approached, clipboard in hand. "The table for Ms. Selena?" she asked quietly.

"Yes," Jace replied, his tone calm yet commanding. "Set it up over there." He gestured toward a spot near the far corner of the office, at a respectful distance from his main desk but still within his line of sight.

Selena's workspace would be close enough for him to monitor her, yet far enough to give the impression of independence. Every move, every glance, every keystroke would be subtly under his observation—a perfect balance of control and distance.

The assistant nodded and quickly set up the table with a sleek laptop, necessary documents, and a small notepad. When she finished, Jace's eyes flicked to the setup, satisfied.

Selena arrived shortly after, dressed neatly yet comfortably. She took in the office with wide eyes, impressed by the size and order of the space. The lounge, the city view, the resting room—it all felt intimidating yet luxurious.

"Your table is over there," Jace said, motioning toward the far corner, voice calm but carrying an unmistakable authority. "Focus on the work I assign. Don't leave your area unless instructed."

Selena nodded, heart racing. So this is his world… she thought. And I'm right in the middle of it, under his watchful eyes.

Jace returned to his desk, sitting in the massive leather chair behind it. Selena placed her laptop on the table, careful to avoid looking at him too much. Yet she couldn't ignore the occasional glances he cast her way, sharp and commanding, as if measuring every movement.

The distance between them did little to dull the electricity in the air. Every time their eyes met, even briefly, Selena felt a small shiver run down her spine. The office, grand as it was, suddenly felt intimate in its charged silence.

Hours passed, and Selena immersed herself in the tasks assigned to her. Jace occasionally leaned back in his chair, observing quietly, making notes, and subtly guiding her without ever leaving his desk.

It was clear: she was in his domain, working under his rules, yet the setup allowed her just enough autonomy to test her courage. Every glance, every movement, every small interaction was a dance of power and tension—the mansion had prepared her, but the office was a new battlefield entirely.

Selena exhaled quietly, realizing that surviving here would require sharp focus, confidence, and careful observation—and perhaps the ability to resist the pull of the man watching her every move.
