Chapter 5 - Three days

Three days. I finished the first major renovations of the compartment. I don't think they will be the last. Moving a few sections away from mine, I pried up the floor, removed all the inner layers of the coating, thermal panels, thermal insulation, and film, leaving only the mesh grid separating the inner compartment from the outer layers and sealing the outer skin. It cost me a torn hand due to my lack of dexterity and skill with tools. But it opened up an empty space about 70 centimeters high, and icing immediately began at the bottom. An improvised cesspool. The contents will spread over the sheathing and freeze. This way, there will be much less stench than when you piss off in every corner. I hope the couple of black guys don't mind that I turned their section into a toilet. Oh... Let's add some brown. What a rush it is to take a normal shit without thinking about where and how to shovel your shit.

Screwdrivers, pliers, and a roll of tape — everything you need to settle in deep space. I opened the power supply of my cryocapsule, connected the heating panels and a couple of diode flashlights to it, attaching them under the ceiling for lighting. I used sheets of insulation to separate my section from the rest of the compartment. The result was something like two entrances with narrow slits, like in a tent. This way, heat would not be wasted on heating the entire ship.

I finish the bottle of cola and fall asleep relatively peacefully for the first time. Even the presence of Barbara, stiff and dead in her freezer, doesn't particularly bother me. Surprisingly, I've hardly thought about her these past few days. Fear for my own skin and the need to solve pressing problems have pushed everything else out of my mind. After all, man is an animal. Maybe tomorrow I'll be overwhelmed with emotions again, but today I'm too tired for that. I'm sleeping. Just sleeping.
