The next morning, I woke wrapped in Damien's arms, the early sunlight streaming through the windows making the room glow golden. For a moment, I just lay there, watching him sleep, still marveling at the fact that this was real. That I was here. That he loved me.
His eyes opened, immediately finding mine, and the smile that spread across his face was so unguarded, so full of warmth, it made my heart skip.
"Good morning," he murmured, pulling me closer.
"Good morning." I traced the line of his jaw. "Sleep well?"
"Best sleep I've had in years. Turns out having the woman you love in your arms does wonders for insomnia."
I was about to respond when his phone buzzed on the nightstand. He groaned, reaching for it without letting go of me.
"This better be important," he muttered, then his expression shifted as he read the screen. "It's Elder Thorne. He wants to see us today. At the main estate."
