"Ladies and gentlemen, if everyone could please take their seats," Brad's voice came over the microphone. "We're about to begin the donation ceremony."
I moved toward the exit, but Brad caught my eye and waved me over. "Claire! Don't leave yet. Stay for the ceremony?"
"I really should—"
"Please? The university would love to recognize our generous alumni." His smile was genuine, pleading. "Just for a few minutes?"
I glanced at Leah, who shrugged. "Free champagne?"
"Fine," I sighed. "But only for a few minutes."
We found seats near the back as people filed in. Julian and Seraphina sat in the front row, looking smug. I tried to ignore them.
