The sterile hospital scent couldn't mask her fragrance. From the moment consciousness returned to me in this medical ward, I knew my mate was somewhere within these walls. Her intoxicating aroma had been the catalyst for my wolf's recovery, pulling me back from the brink when my injuries should have claimed me.
Each time footsteps approached my door, anticipation surged through my chest. Maybe this time she would appear, drawn by the same invisible thread that connected us. But hope turned to disappointment repeatedly as nurses and doctors came and went, none of them her.
The mystery deepened daily. Her scent permeated the corridors, so potent it made my wolf pace restlessly beneath my skin, yet she remained elusive as smoke.
