Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Sin Judgment System

Rain didn't even care about the filth all over him. Following the original owner's memories in his mind, he stumbled and crawled his way back toward the barracks.

He slammed the door shut with a bang.

Leaning his back against the cold iron door, Rain forced himself to calm down.

Silence.

Only then did he notice how pathetically small this room was—just a single bed and a tiny locker.

But… it was a single room. Fragmented memories told him that because the identity of "executioner" was considered so unlucky, no one wanted to share a room with him. That was the only reason this unwanted storage room had been given to him as a "dorm."

"So this is what it means to be 'lucky' and isolated, huh…"

Rain let out a self-mocking chuckle. But right now, this tiny room that shut out prying eyes was the perfect safe harbor for him.

Still bracing the iron door with his weight, he tilted his head and listened for a long time. Only after he was sure there were no footsteps in the hallway did he finally let himself slide down to the floor, as if all his strength had drained away.

For the first time, the darkness and silence made Rain feel a trace of safety.

In his heart, with a voice that was almost trembling in prayer, Rain called out: "System!"

A semi-transparent screen emitting a faint blue glow quietly appeared before his eyes.

At the top of the screen were a few clear words: [Sin Judgment System].

Below that was a newly generated judgment record.

[Prisoner: "Bonecrusher" Cass]

[Overall Rank: N8]

[Status: Executed]

[Sin Index: 120]

[Execution Involvement: 100%]

[Selectable Rewards]: (choose 1 of 3)

It was real! Not an illusion! So transmigrators really are blessed after all!

Stormy waves surged in Rain's heart, but the calm he'd built up in his previous life as a corporate drone made him force himself to study every line, word by word.

"Prisoner, 'Bonecrusher' Cass… that should be the pirate I just shot."

"Overall Rank N8? Is N short for Normal? Why does this sound exactly like rarity ranks in those gacha mobile games from my past life…"

"Sin Index 120…" Rain glanced at that number, then at his own personal panel where it said [Sin Points: 120], and instantly understood.

"This should be a numerical value based on the crimes he committed while alive—the heavier his crimes, the higher the index. Once I execute him, I get the corresponding points. As for what I can do with those points… no idea yet."

[System Rule: Only judges "sin." Targets with a Sin Index below 100 cannot trigger a judgment and will not yield any rewards.]

"Oh? So there's a restriction?" Rain raised his eyebrows.

He did a quick mental calculation. "A Sin Index of 100 points… roughly the standard for 'hands stained with more than one human life,' I'd guess. I can go to the records room another day and see what this Cass actually did. In other words, the system probably auto-filters out petty thieves and people whose crimes aren't enough to deserve death?"

"That's fine." Rain had no problem with that—if anything, he found it convenient.

"Execution Involvement 100%… because I personally finished him off? So if, in the future, I fight alongside others and someone else lands the killing blow, this involvement percentage will drop, and the reward will be reduced? So the system is encouraging me to personally execute those brutal pirates, to become a nemesis of sin?"

He instantly grasped the core of that mechanic. This system wanted him to go full PVP.

He took a deep breath, forcing his overexcited brain to cool down.

"No… I'm thinking too far ahead." Rain shook his head.

"This isn't a game. There are no respawn points. Everything rests on one premise…"

"I have to stay alive first."

"I only get one life. If it's gone, everything else is gone too."

His gaze dropped to the most crucial part: [Selectable Rewards].

As he focused his thoughts, that section expanded, revealing three card-like choices.

[Option 1: Physique Inheritance (Minor)]

Description: Inherit "Bonecrusher" Cass's [Basic] physical build.

[Option 2: Skill Inheritance · Hand-to-Hand Combat]

Description: Inherit "Bonecrusher" Cass's [Basic] fighting techniques honed through years of brawling.

[Option 3: Memory Fragment · Treasure Location]

Description: Inherit "Bonecrusher" Cass's memory of a certain treasure stash.

Rain frowned slightly when he saw the word in parentheses after the first option.

"(Minor)?"

His mind spun quickly, instantly catching the key point.

"This 'Bonecrusher' Cass might sound scary, but before his execution, he was probably held in Loguetown's Marine prison for quite a while. Living on scraps, never seeing the sun—forget training, he probably struggled just to stand steadily…"

He recalled the scene on the scaffold. That pirate, despite his vicious look, had indeed been thin and unsteady on his feet.

"So that's it… the system draws from the target's current state. Because he's been locked up for so long and his body's far from its peak, the physique I can inherit is just a weakened, 'minor' version of what he once had?"

Having sorted that out, Rain calmly went back to analyzing the choices.

"Memory fragment? A random pirate's treasure stash is probably just a few hundred thousand Berries at most. That does nothing for my current situation. Pass."

"Skill or physique?"

"That's basically a no-brainer. Physique is the foundation of everything. Even a 'minor' improvement is a lifesaver for this 15-year-old body that hasn't fully developed yet!"

"Besides, improving my physical stats—so long as I don't show it off—no one will notice!"

"I choose: [Physique Inheritance]!"

The moment his will confirmed the choice, a rush of scorching pure energy appeared out of thin air and surged through his limbs and bones like a flood breaking a dam!

"Urgh!"

Rain let out a muffled groan, clenching his teeth. He felt every muscle fiber in his body being rewoven, his bones creaking under the strain.

It lasted only a few seconds, but it felt like a century.

When the energy finally faded, a sense of unprecedented strength filled his body. Rain could clearly feel that he was far stronger than before.

Then, like a tidal wave, a crushing hunger swallowed him whole.

Gasping for breath, he felt like he could eat an entire cow right now. Forcing himself to stay awake, he opened the system again to check the personal panel he hadn't examined earlier.
