Elian raised an eyebrow.
"How sure are you that some sick bastard didn't just have a thing for older women?"
Nicholas stared at him.
"She's like eighty."
Elian's expression changed slightly.
"And?"
"All the others said she's just crazy. They said she was never part of them." Nicholas said.
"Did you talk to her?" Kasteil asked.
His voice was quieter than the others, more thoughtful. He had been listening in silence, his cigar burning low between his fingers, his expression unreadable.
"Yes."
Nicholas paused.
The memory of the conversation was still vivid, still unsettling. The old woman had looked at him with eyes that seemed to see something beyond the present moment, beyond the walls of the facility, beyond the world itself.
"She keeps saying she's from Coral pack"
Kasteil and Elian both went still.
