Chapter 58 - Double Booking

The tenth entry did not feel different.

That was the problem.

Rei was already stretching his shoulders as they approached the Guild annex.

"Same floor?"

"Fifty-nine," Liora replied. "Demon mix."

Aera adjusted her gloves quietly.

Cain stepped forward and pressed his guild card against the crest embedded beside the dungeon arch.

Light flickered.

Then dimmed.

A dull red line pulsed across the surface.

Access Denied

Floor Reserved

Rei blinked.

"…What?"

Liora stepped forward and scanned her card.

The same red pulse.

Reserved.

Aera frowned. "That shouldn't happen. The academy files the schedule in advance."

Before they could speak further, heavy boots echoed behind them.

Another group approached the archway.

Five of them.

Older.

Fully geared.

Real adventurers.

Worn armor.

Scars.

Confidence without academy stiffness.

The man at their front stepped forward and pressed his guild card to the crest.

Red pulse again.

He frowned.

"Reserved? We booked this floor two days ago."

Rei crossed his arms. "So did we."

The man's eyes shifted toward Cain's group, assessing quickly.

"Academy?"

"Yes," Liora answered evenly.

The adventurer captain exhaled through his nose.

"Paperwork overlap. Happens when guild handles multiple registries."

One of his teammates muttered, "We can report it."

"Or," the captain interrupted calmly, "we don't waste the day."

He looked at Cain.

"Joint raid."

Rei raised an eyebrow.

"Split rewards?"

"Equal."

Liora considered.

Aera looked uncertain.

Cain studied the captain.

Not reckless.

Not unstable.

Just pragmatic.

"We maintain our formation," Cain said.

"Same," the captain replied.

"Boss decision mutual."

The captain hesitated a fraction of a second.

"Agreed."

Guild protocol allowed joint entry when both parties consented.

The crest pulsed again as both leaders pressed their cards simultaneously.

This time—

Green light.

Permission Granted

Joint Entry Authorized

The archway shimmered wider than before.

Ten figures stepped through.

Floor 59.

The atmosphere felt denser immediately.

Not just mana.

Presence.

The corridor was broader than previous floors.

Stone walls reinforced with darker ore veins.

Footprints already marked the dust ahead.

Demonlings emerged quickly.

But this time—

The fight was faster.

Cleaner.

The adventurer party moved like veterans.

Two frontliners pressed aggressively.

One ranged caster supported.

One shield bearer anchored.

The captain moved fluidly between roles.

Rei grinned mid-fight.

"This is efficient."

Cain observed more than attacked at first.

Their spacing was tighter.

Their response faster.

But—

Their aggression was higher too.

A demonling lunged toward Aera.

One of the adventurer frontliners intercepted it instantly, cleaving it apart before it reached her.

Rei blinked.

"Okay."

Liora's wind sliced through two demonlings in one motion.

Cain activated Mana Blade cleanly, cutting deeper than before.

The shadow-cat moved along the ceiling beams silently, tracking movements in both parties.

No confusion.

No chaos.

The chamber cleared faster than any previous floor.

Rei wiped his blade.

"We've experienced this," he said lightly. "Feels easier."

The captain smirked.

"Floor fifty-nine isn't meant to challenge B-rank parties."

They advanced deeper.

More demonlings.

Stronger variants.

Horned forms.

Still manageable.

Two chambers later, they stood before a larger stone door.

Different from previous boss doors.

Thicker.

Engraved.

The captain rested his hand against it.

"Floor boss."

Liora spoke first. "We clear and exit."

The captain nodded.

"Clear and exit."

No greed.

No tension.

The door opened.

The boss inside was a Demon Brute.

Massive.

Four-armed.

Heavy hide.

The fight was intense.

But controlled.

The combined ten fighters overwhelmed it.

Mana flared.

Blades struck.

Coordination sharpened.

Cain used Quick Step twice.

Mana Blade once.

Rei activated Mana Burst and nearly overextended but recovered.

Aera held position and reinforced minor injuries mid-fight.

The Demon Brute fell.

Silence followed.

Breathing heavy.

But victorious.

The exit door behind them opened automatically.

Rei laughed softly.

"See? We've experienced this."

The captain glanced at the opened exit.

Then at the deeper passage beyond the chamber.

Another door stood there.

Larger.

Darker.

No indicator rune.

No floor marking.

Just presence.

One of the adventurers spoke quietly.

"That wasn't the true end."

The captain's eyes lingered on the deeper gate.

Rewards inside deeper chambers were rumored to be higher.

Better materials.

Better drops.

He glanced at Cain's group.

"You've handled yourselves well."

Rei straightened slightly.

Cain remained silent.

The shadow at his feet deepened faintly.

The captain stepped toward the deeper gate.

"Just a look."

Liora's voice was steady.

"We agreed."

The captain paused.

Then smiled faintly.

"We did."

But his hand remained on the stone.

And the dungeon air felt heavier than before.
