Chapter 11 - 3rd Step, Doom

Aeron used Death Undone to revive the Three-Headed Trilent Warhog and made it his servant.

Afterward, he entered the cemetery and completed the second step.

Dojo Master and Aira saw Aeron standing still after entering the cemetery, looking at something that they could also see.

Step 3's details, and the options it gave to Aeron.

"Don't tell me he is going for the worst one?" Dojo Master's face turned weird.

"Please, don't do that…" Aira's voice was as low as a mosquito's and filled with anxiety.

Aeron began rubbing his chin.

"What should I choose?" he mumbled.

Step 3:

Choose the difficulty of the trial and pass it. The higher the difficulty, the greater the reward. Choosing Doom difficulty and successfully passing it will reward you with the great legacy of ####.

Difficulty:

-Easy

-Average

-Hard

-Doom

"Great legacy of what?"

Aeron wanted to know and wondered why the person who created this technique and such a systematic interaction in this strange realm of death hid that information.

'Maybe whoever's legacy that belonged to had a reason to hide its name… like having an enemy?' Aeron's eyes glinted. 'Yeah, that's possible.'

'Interesting.'

Aeron looked at the options and smiled as he decided. 'I have a strong gift, so I should be able to pass Doom difficulty.'

'Let's do it.'

And so, Aeron picked the Doom difficulty without hesitation.

The moment he picked that, Aira and Dojo Master, who were watching, felt sharp pain in their eyes, forcing them shut as they began to tear blood.

Their bodies froze, unable to move even an inch except for trembling in self-defense against this threat, but no amount of instinct could free them, and no amount of power could help them right now.

At the same time, strange darkness oozed out from Aeron, sparkling gold, but black and also red. The training room turned into a strange multi-dimensional realm.

The eyes of Aira and Dojo Master Wilren shot open, their heads jerking upward as multi-dimensional, glassy crimson letters began forming.

[

What your eyes claim, what your ears steal,

must rot in silence, never born to words.

Loose your tongue, break this law,

and Nihil will claim your soul.

]

These words were imprinted into their minds as everything returned to normal.

Aira and Dojo Master Wilren were scared to death as they looked at each other.

"W-What just happened?" Aira asked, her heart pounding as if running over with thousands of horses.

The words were fresh in her mind, as fresh as if they were right in front of her eyes. But not just words.

The terror was also fresh. The grasp of death formed around her soul alongside those words.

"I think… it was a threat." Dojo Master Wilren calmed his heart and looked at Aeron.

"Threat from who?" Aira's lips slightly trembled as she knew it could only be one. "Don't tell me… the creator of this technique?"

"That's what I think." Dojo Master Wilren wryly smiled. "But whoever it is, we are merely ants before them. I guess they don't want anyone to know that Aeron chose Doom difficulty, but we don't have to worry about it unless Aeron survives and passes the trial."

"I'm sure many others must have picked Doom difficulty," Aira said with a nod. "But none have survived, from the looks of it."

Dojo Master's eyes glinted. "Perhaps the creator of this technique made it specifically to find an inheritor? And a legacy can't be given to multiple people, so you are right. No one has managed to pass Doom difficulty yet."

"The screen," Aira looked at the screen. "Can you connect it again? Since we got a threat like that, which will really kill us with some kind of power the moment we expose whatever we hear or see to others, I don't think the creator minds us watching Aeron's trial."

"That's true." Dojo Master nodded and began establishing a connection with Aeron's consciousness to project his visual and hearing senses onto the screen with his technique.

However, he failed.

Frowning, he tried again.

And failed.

"What happened?" Aira asked.

Dojo Master Wilren ruefully smiled. "Skill issue. My technique can't trace his consciousness anymore. I think the realm in which the Doom difficulty trial is held is outside my current scope of ability."

"There's only one person slightly more well-versed in this field on Planet Earth than me," Dojo Master Wilren said with a smile. "Emphasis on slightly."

"Well… my grandfather's location is unknown." Aira sighed. "But the whole family is coming after three days because I told them I found a man and already married him."

Dojo Master Wilren raised his eyebrows. "Wait, don't tell me the man you found was this human from the other side? And he turned out to be like this?"

Aira wryly smiled. "Yes… and I swear I didn't know he would turn out like this, though I knew he could become strong. He has excellent grit and, most of all, focus. But his life was miserable. He was trapped in a quagmire, and due to his nature, he put his energy into work that quietly exploited him rather than life, causing him to suffocate gradually, but steadily."

"So I hired him to be my fake husband and give him a new, better life in this world where he can bloom his true potential."

"Now this is what you call an earth-shattering coincidence," Dojo Master Wilren burst into laughter. "Let's hope he passes the trial, so we can witness the birth of someone extraordinary."

After a second of choosing Doom difficulty, Aeron found himself lying on the ground and watching the night sky filled with stars and three moons of blue, light pink, and gray colors.

'What the…?' Aeron got up, confused.

He looked around and saw that he was in a forest.

Rustle! Rustle!

"Everyone! Come here!"

Aeron was startled, and just as he turned toward the voice, he saw two men and a kid who looked around ten years old.

The adults had torches that illuminated the area, as well as boars in crude bags made of wood and leaves on the ground, which they had hunted and were bringing back to their home.

"Hi…" Aeron's lips twitched a bit as he forced out a smile. "I mean no harm."

Soon, he was surrounded by nine adults and four kids.

"Who are you?" a middle-aged man with a thick beard asked as he approached Aeron with curiosity in his eyes. "What are you doing here?"

"I have no idea how I got here."

Grrrr…..

Suddenly, Aeron's stomach growled loudly.

Aeron wryly smiled. "Sorry, I just haven't eaten…"

"If you can stand, then follow us." The man grinned. "Our village is having a festival, so it's going to be a big feast. You can eat there."

"Really? Thank you so much." Aeron smiled and got up.

"Everyone! Let's go!"

Aeron followed the group, and the curious kids started asking him questions.

He also asked for some information, and apparently, he was in the Talkuda Forest of the Boryan Kingdom.

'What's going on? I am in a trial inside Battlefield of Death, right?'

He checked the quest tab.

Step 3:

Doom Difficulty Trial: Make choices and survive for 1000 days.

"WHAAAT!" Aeron shouted, his eyes widening in shock.

The group was startled and paused.

"What happened, Aeron?"

"Uncle, did you get bitten by a snake?"

Aeron saw their gazes on him and cleared his throat. "Sorry, I just remembered something."

"What did you remember?"

"The name of my wife."

"So you have a wife? Hahaha, that's great."

"Eat well and rest well so you can remember and go back home."

'I have to spend three years here… does that mean I'll be sleeping that long inside that training room?' Aeron gulped.

'Screw it. I don't think they will kick me out, but Aira hired me to become her fake husband…' Her face was as clear as the night sky filled with stars in his mind.

He was not in love with her, or was he? He didn't know. But he liked her.

She was the first person to acknowledge his effort and existence. The first person to notice his qualities and appreciate them.

Never once in his life had he heard that someone admired him, but she said it to his face with utter sincerity, unmasked in her face and eyes.

'I married a bitch like a fool, thinking she loved me, but I was wrong.' Aeron's fists clenched. 'Now I have decided. If I am going to marry someone, it will be her...hopefully.'

A newfound blaze burned in Aeron's eyes.

The group soon arrived at the village.

It was a small but beautiful village with around a hundred people in total.

The houses were made of wood, mud, and braided dried grass. Some houses had colorful and childish designs on them, and some looked very aesthetic.

The village chief lived in the only tree house in the village, built on a large tree with three floors.

Aeron soon became familiar with the people and began helping them.

The village chief was a kind man who had lost his family, but his house was open to everyone who had no home, so those who lost their families during hunting or in other ways lived in the big tree house.

They also prepared a room for Aeron.

For the first time in many years, Aeron was having fun and feeling the warmth of human emotions he was receiving from so many people.

The people and children of the village were truly happy.

The feast was the priority, so everyone worked together, and then everyone ate together.

Afterward, music and dance began. Drums, flutes, and a few other unique instruments that Aeron was seeing for the first time.

After watching people dance for a bit, Aeron also joined them.

He was having fun.

People danced and sang all night before finally sleeping.

'I'll train and become strong during this year in the trial.'

With that thought, Aeron also fell asleep.

And then it began.

Soft sounds rustled around the village.

People were closing in from all sides. People wielding spears and swords, wearing armor with the same symbol on their clothes.

The symbol of the Boryan Kingdom.

"Don't let a single one of these tainted escape."
