Chapter 1 - Prologue

Sometimes…I wonder if it's true that you have power over your life. I've heard several times over that it's not what your circumstance is, but what you choose to do with that circumstance. But honestly, I don't think that's true, or at least I haven't seen any proof in my life. I was born…actually I couldn't tell you, I grew up in an orphanage that no longer exists. I'm not sure if it ever existed based on my memories, all I know is that at the age of twelve, it was gone. Burned to ashes in one random quiet night, bandits stealing Jadium from the donations the orphanage recieved, they were never caught, never brought to justice.

So…for the next eight years of my life, I wandered across the land aimlessly. It was a good thing that I wasn't stupid, I always had a knack for learning things faster than others, Math, history, fighting, and most importantly…theft. Where I was abandoned after the orphanage burned wasn't exactly a charitable community, it was eat or be eaten. Luckily, my hunger was stronger than my fear of conflict. It started out small, only taking food nobody else was going to eat, I even learned how to hunt in the wild for my sustinance, fish and wild boar hides were my main source of caloric supplement. But eventually…I realized that the dirty looks I recieved angered me, they still do. It wasn't my fault that I was forced to fend for myself as a whelp, what did they know?

The ones that pissed me off the most were the priestesses at the local churches in each town. I didn't need thier fables of a being that cared about me, one that provided for everything for all who roamed this soil. At least the village folk were honest about what they thought of me, what kind of Goddess would let a kid fend for himself when he practically had nothing to begin with, it might as well be her fault if that really was the case, not that I believe in such a thing, I don't believe in anything really.

Well…maybe that's not true. If there's one thing I've learned in this life, is that power is everything. The Queen of the main capital of the connected continents of Thereas has seemed to grow bored of her rule, it was bound to happen since she's won five consecutive Warrior Queen tournaments for the past twenty years. This upcoming tournament she has publicly announced that she is refusing to participate, and that whomever is the next grand champion will rule for the next generation. It could be any fair maiden of age that can rule next, thing is, I ain't no maiden, nor do I really care to become one. No, what I want is the champion's chalice, the symbol of the tournaments victor. The chalice is required to fully acknowledge the coronation of the next queen, a cup so important that if any queen were to have it lost in thier possesion, they are no longer acknowledged as queen.

So where does that lead us? If you noticed earlier, I did mention I was a thief correct? I have a bounty and everything, my plan is simple really, steal the chalice at the tail end of the tournament. The kingdom will blame either the current or previous queen, perhaps both, and destroy the system that caused birthed my criminalizing career, it's the perfect revenge. Thing is, the plan is…risky to say the least, I have no friends, no family, and if I get caught, I'll be executed if the queen is feeling any modicum of mercy. But if I could die trying to force the attention towards the inequity of this disgusting world, I can die content at the very least. First thing's first though, I need supplies, specifically gem fuit. They're rumored to give humans and animals who eat even one bite temporary physical enhancements. Since I'm heading somewhare with tight and tough security, I'm gonna need any boons I can take. Luckily rumors have it that a very annoying family of nobles have thier own pricate stash, gem fruit is disgustingly expensive, even more so than normal gems and gold, if anyone would have a solid amount in stock, It'd be them. I have the better half of a month to make this plan a reality, but win or lose, life or death, I will go down to my last dying breath if it means I can make the world bleed. I'll take the power that was robbed from me back into my hooks, by any means possible. Next stop, The Lance family mansion.
