Chapter 52 - Chapter 52 FFXV (Final)

The heavy, oppressive silence of Zegnautus Keep was broken only by the hum of the Road Runner's engine idling in the courtyard.

As the group emerged from the throne room, the sky over Gralea was no longer a bruised, stagnant purple.

For the first time in years, the clouds were thinning, revealing a pale, fragile dawn that hinted at a world without the Starscourge.

Ardyn sat in the backseat of the SUV, staring out the window with the wide-eyed wonder of a child.

He was no longer the Chancellor of Niflheim; he was a man who could finally feel the chill of the morning air against his skin.

Beside him, 9S was slumped over his terminal, snoring softly as his Pod performed a self-diagnostic.

"Ignis, you take the wheel of the Regalia,"

Theodore, tossing the keys to the newly-sighted strategist.

"Follow my lead. We have a surprise for you all."

The drive to the Galahd border was long, but the tension had shifted from dread to a shimmering, electric anticipation.

Noctis sat in the passenger seat of the Regalia, his hands trembling. He hadn't spoken since they left the Keep.

He still couldn't quite wrap his mind around the fact that the world hadn't demanded his life—and that the woman he loved might truly be waiting at the end of this road.

The Road Runner pulled up to a secluded cottage nestled in the misty valleys of Galahd.

The "Ghost Drive" shimmered and deactivated, revealing 2B standing guard on the porch, her hand resting on the hilt of her blade.

The door to the cottage opened.

Lunafreya Nox Fleuret stepped out.

She was dressed in simple traveler's clothes, her golden hair tied back, devoid of the heavy ceremonial robes of the Oracle.

When her eyes met Noctis's, the world seemed to stop.

Noctis stumbled out of the Regalia, his legs nearly giving way.

"Luna..."

There were no grand speeches.

There was only a desperate, silent sprint across the grass. When they collided, it wasn't the tragic, spectral embrace of the original timeline. It was a physical, bone-deep reunion.

Noctis buried his face in her shoulder, sobbing with a relief that shook his entire frame, while Luna held him as if she were anchoring him to the earth.

Theodore watched from the hood of the Road Runner, a satisfied smirk on his face. He checked his System notifications.

"You did good, 2B,"

Theodore said, nodding to the android.

"The subject remained safe, though her emotional output has increased by 400% in the last sixty seconds,"

2B replied, her voice as steady as ever, though she didn't move to interrupt the couple.

Theodore decided to stay. He told 9S and 2B to keep the Hub bridge on standby, but he wasn't ready to leave just yet. He wanted to see the "Good Ending" through to the very last frame.

Over the next twelve months, Eos transformed. With the Starscourge gone and the Daemons vanished, the sun returned in full force.

The reconstruction of Insomnia became a global effort. Theodore used his INT 10 and 9S's technical prowess to help the Crownsguard restore the city's infrastructure, though he made sure to keep the "Gamer" tech largely hidden, passing it off as "recovered Magitek."

Ardyn stayed under Theodore's watch.

The former Accursed lived in a quiet apartment in the outskirts, spending his days reading history books and marveling at the fact that he was actually aging.

Occasionally, he would join Theodore for skewers at a local stall, complaining about his back pain with a genuine, weary smile.

"I never thought I'd find a stomach ache so fascinating,"

Ardyn remarked one evening, patting his midsection.

"It's a remarkably human sensation.

"Enjoy it while it lasts, Ardyn,"

Theodore replied.

"Once we go to the Hub, you'll have to start working for your keep."

The day finally arrived. Insomnia had been restored to its former glory—the white marble of the Citadel gleaming under a perfect, cloudless sky.

The streets were lined with thousands of citizens, their cheers echoing against the skyscrapers.

Theodore stood in the dressing room of the Citadel, adjusting his own formal attire.

He felt out of place in a suit, but for Noctis, he made the exception.

Noctis stood before a mirror, looking every bit the King. He was taller, his shoulders broader, and the shadow that had haunted his eyes since he was a boy was gone.

He turned to Theodore, extending a hand.

"They told me the Kings of Yore would demand my life,"

Noctis said quietly.

"They said the only way to save the world was through my death. I spent my whole life preparing for an end I didn't want."

He gripped Theodore's hand firmly.

"I don't know where you came from, Theodore. But you gave me a life. I won't waste it."

"Just make sure you're a better King than your ancestors, Noct,"

Theodore grinned.

"And maybe name the first kid after me. 'Theodore Lucis Caelum' has a nice ring to it."

The wedding took place on the grand balcony overlooking the city. As Lunafreya walked down the aisle, the wind carried the scent of Sylleblossoms, the blue flowers blooming in massive quantities across the plaza below.

When the High Priest (now a largely ceremonial role) asked for the vows, Noctis didn't look at the crowd. He looked only at Luna.

"I chose you when we were children,"

Noctis said, his voice echoing through the speakers across the city.

"And today, the world finally let me choose you again. I promise to be the King this world deserves, and the husband you've always deserved."

Luna's response was a whisper that nonetheless felt like a roar to those listening.

"The stars have gone silent, but my heart has never been louder. I am yours, in this life and every other."

As they shared their first kiss as King and Queen, the Crownsguard fired a salute into the air.

Prompto was frantically snapping photos, tears streaming down his face, while Gladiolus stood like a pillar of pride.

Ignis, his eyes still glowing with that faint golden Erdtree light, watched the horizon, his predictive vision seeing only peace for the years to come.

That night, as the celebrations continued in the streets below, Theodore, 9S, 2B, and a very tired Ardyn gathered in the secret basement of the Citadel where the Road Runner was parked.

"Calculations complete,"

9S announced, the Hub-bridge portal shimmering into existence behind the SUV.

Theodore looked back at the Citadel, where the lights were bright and the music was playing. He felt a strange pang of nostalgia.

He had entered this world as a Gamer looking for stats and loot, but he was leaving it having saved a family.

"Ready, Ardyn?"

Theodore asked.

Ardyn looked at the portal—the entrance to a world where his past didn't exist.

He tipped his hat to the city of Insomnia one last time.

"Lead the way, my dear Savior. I'm quite curious to see if this 'Hub' has a decent vintage of wine."

Theodore hopped into the driver's seat of the Road Runner. 2B and 9S took their places.

"System, initiate the jump,"

Theodore commanded.

"Next stop: The Hub. We've got a lot of stats to spend and a Chancellor to retire."

The Road Runner surged forward into the shimmering blue light.

Behind them, the world of Eos continued to spin—no longer a tragedy, but a brand new story.
