Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: The last dance.

Insight typically refers to a person's ability to perceive things beyond their senses, a kind of second sight.

In the city of Yharnam, the various tragedies and disasters witnessed by the Hunter Goki all stemmed from the ancient Sumeru people's pursuit of Great One power, and the reckless studies of later scholars.

Whether it was the knowledge of madmen or the secrets of the gods, exposure to these extraordinary things gradually opened one's Insight, allowing them to see what Mortals could not.

Ultimately, this led to the opening of the inner eye that connected to the Upper Realm, achieving the final Ascension and stealing the power of the Great One.

The Great One was immensely powerful, possessing knowledge that transcended human understanding.

Of course, gods can die if killed, and Goki had killed quite a few, having just killed one not long ago.

The Pale Moon, the Great One who had imprisoned Goki in the Hunter's Dream and granted him infinite Rebirth, ultimately died by Goki's blade, and Goki exchanged all his power for ultimate freedom.

It sounded good, but just recalling those creatures full of tentacles, slime, rotting flesh, and twisted bones made Goki feel nauseous—if all Great Ones were white-haired, red-eyed beautiful Young Misses, Goki might have truly inherited the Moon God's power!

If the power was awesome but the appearance didn't meet his aesthetic standards, then he wouldn't be a Great One!

Originally, Goki thought that in this new world he had arrived in, he would face more human-on-human conflict, and Insight wouldn't increase, at least not for a while.

Who knew, he hadn't even taken two steps before his Insight increased by 1.

He and Skadi saw a person.

No, it was clear that it was no longer a person.

"Skadi, you're still alive? How fortunate, we've lost too many blood relatives in this meaningless battle."

Covered in sand and still dripping seawater, a Hunter dressed in black hunter's attire, quite similar to Skadi's, stood before Goki and Skadi.

She also had a pretty face, blood-red eyes, and white hair that reached her shoulders, appearing slightly younger than Skadi.

The only difference was that she held a chain in her hand, extending forward and connected to a sharp, hard harpoon.

Just moments ago, this harpoon had nearly pierced Goki.

"Look at you, why are you so careless after coming ashore, mixing with these inferior land-dwellers? Don't let his filth contaminate you, Skadi, let's go home and find our sisters."

Her eyes fixed on Skadi, the Abyssal Hunter raised her hand, extending an invitation from family.

A long, ethereal song echoed in Skadi and Goki's ears; Goki hadn't heard it just now, but after gaining Insight, the song became exceptionally clear.

However, in response to her invitation, Skadi merely rested her dark greatsword on her shoulder, gently twisting the hilt, causing the greatsword to emit a loud roar.

"Archerfish... May you have a dry, good dream. I will bring you peace."

In Skadi's eyes, there was only sadness and anger.

That Abyssal Hunter was no longer human.

At her waist, there was a huge gash, as if she had been torn by a giant beast, revealing a jagged, broken white spine, with only a little flesh still connecting it.

At her heart, there was a hole, seemingly pierced by some giant spike.

Her muscle fibers had turned a pale white, and all her blood had drained.

Fatal wounds of this magnitude, even an Abyssal Hunter could not survive.

Skadi remembered that not long ago, she had witnessed her die before her eyes, bitten in half by a giant Terrorfish.

But she was still alive, and very well.

However, those wounds were now filled with a viscous and elastic mass of blue and black tentacles, like seaweed, reattaching her.

Those tentacles were living things; some grew continuously like granulation tissue, while others had already fused into a hard carapace.

It was too obvious; this wasn't even a disguise, the other party had no intention of hiding it from Skadi.

Skadi knew her; she was a member of her squad, who liked to throw harpoons in the water to hunt Terrorfish.

At every ball, the shy girl would hide in the furthest corner, hoping someone would invite her to dance.

Skadi had never danced with her; she didn't particularly like Aegir social gatherings.

But now, that Abyssal Hunter was dead, everything within her had completely vanished, and a Terrorfish had manipulated her body, turning her into the Abyssal Hunter's most hated enemy—a Seaborn.

Skadi had long been mentally prepared for such things; after that great war, not all Abyssal Hunters could die peacefully.

"Goki, this battle is mine. If I die, you can try to kill her, or you can leave directly."

Skadi knew that the Hunter behind her was far inferior to her in physical prowess.

But somehow, she felt that this land-dweller might have the ability to kill the Seaborn before them.

That superb skill would not lie.

"I know, I can't intervene in a battle of your caliber for now. I at least need to get used to your speed... before I can help."

Goki nodded; he knew his physical abilities were far from Skadi's, and rash intervention would only be counterproductive.

Looking at the Abyssal Hunter whose Seaborn Blood had been awakened and who had transformed into a Seaborn, Goki's Hunter instincts quickly warned him.

Going up now and hacking at the opponent with his Saw Cleaver would be pure suicide.

He needed to find a clever way, an unconventional way... to skip class!

"Do you want to fight, sister, fight your blood relative—this is meaningless. I only want to liberate the true you. Look at this sea, how tolerant and warm her embrace is. We can swim in it together."

With a sudden pull, her slender arms used the chain to yank the harpoon out of the sand. A gentle smile appeared on the pretty face of the Abyssal Hunter, whom Skadi called Archerfish, but to Goki and Skadi, it was exceptionally cold.

"That doesn't matter either. We are already by the sea; even if I perish, my body can nourish the sea—as long as I make you remember your true self."

The Abyssal Hunter's voice was low and soft, like a gentle hum, but her body was poised, pointing the sharp, barbed spearhead of the harpoon at Skadi.

"Ishar-mla, I came to see you."

Skadi took a deep breath, her athletic body poised like a leopard.

"Enough, shut up, don't use her mouth to say such disgusting things—this is the last dance, Archerfish."

The next second, Skadi stomped on the ground, the immense force creating a sand pit.

Wielding her greatsword with both hands, Skadi swept forward like a hurricane towards her former comrade.

Meanwhile, Goki stared intently at their battle while rapidly thinking.

"Nona Doll, are you there?"

"I am, kind Hunter—please cherish your life. The Pale Moon has vanished; before her authority is grasped by you, your death signifies the end."

Hearing the gentle voice in his mind, Goki nodded.

"Alright, for you, Nona Doll, I will preserve this life well, so I can't be reckless."

Carefully considering his extensive experience, Goki quickly made a decision.

"My blood echoes are sufficient, Nona Doll, send me a sniper rifle."

The Old Hunter decided to use a more righteous approach.
