Chapter 8 - Since I Felt He Would Challenge Me, I Took Care of Him First

"Huh, Observation Haki: Future Sight."

When Kai heard the chime in his head, he froze for a moment, then realized what it was. Was that not a skill from that Pirate King story.

In that story, Observation Haki let people sense movements and attacks without relying on normal sight or hearing, as if they could feel things in the void.

When trained to a high level it had all kinds of special uses, and this Future Sight was one of the advanced applications of that same Kenbunshoku.

"Observation Haki: Future Sight."

Kai tried to activate the ability. A ring of red light flashed across his eyes.

A second later, a scene from the future appeared before him.

...

"Kai, if you are a real man, let us fight one on one. A battle where fists hit flesh, that is what a true man's fight is."

After stuffing himself full, Natsu's fighting spirit flared, and he pointed at Kai to issue a challenge.

Kai replied at once.

"Perfect. Have a taste of my fist."

Natsu charged in at him, but a heartbeat later, Kai dropped him in an instant.

"I am only bad at close combat compared to Erza and the other S class close range monsters."

"But beating you is still easy."

"Huh"

Natsu looked up at Kai, chomped down the last bite of meat in his mouth, then stood up, ready to pick a fight with him again.

BANG

"You idiot. I am a long range marksman. Why would I fight you at close range. Am I stupid, or is your brain made of beans."

Before Natsu could say a word, Kai had already knocked him out with a single punch. He then told Happy to haul Natsu back while he returned to the bar to order another bowl of fried rice.

"Natsu got into it with you again on the way back from the job."

Mira came out carrying the fried rice and asked curiously.

"No. I just had a feeling that once this kid finished eating, he would come pick a fight, so I decided to take care of him in advance."

Kai was starting to understand Observation Haki. Normally Kenbunshoku could stay active in the background.

In that state it could sense things around him, but it could not show the future. That part was passive.

Future Sight was an active skill. Using it sped up his physical fatigue, but it did not drain his magic at all.

"Even though I feel a little sorry for Natsu, what you described really could have happened."

Mira shook her head. With Natsu's personality, he probably would have done exactly that, especially after eating.

"Mira, there is something I have always wanted to say to you."

Kai ate a spoonful of fried rice, then looked up at her. His eyes were very earnest, his feelings rising straight from his chest.

"Sorry, I am not planning to start a relationship right now."

Mirajane folded her hands in front of her chest and put on an apologetic expression.

Kai had not even finished his sentence before she cut him off.

"That is not it. You are actually a good person, and your personality is not bad. I just do not have that kind of thought at the moment."

"But why do you always put so many chili peppers in every time. Do you secretly hate me."

Kai did not dislike spicy food, but he could not understand why Mirajane always dumped so much chili into it.

"No, you forgot what you said the first time you ate my fried rice."

Mirajane pouted at him. She had honestly thought he was about to confess to her, but it turned out he only wanted to talk about fried rice.

Even though she did not want to date right now, meeting a situation like that still left her feeling a little down.

"What did I say."

Kai tried to remember what he had said the first time he ate her cooking that might have offended her. Nothing came to mind.

"You said, the fried rice tastes really good, it is just a little too mild. If it had more chili peppers it would be even better."

He had not expected Mirajane to take it so seriously. Because of that one comment, she had decided he loved chili and had been loading his fried rice with peppers every time.

She really was too earnest. He could cry.

"Do not add extra next time. I have been eating here for a year, and my stomach feels like it is starting to give out."

Kai was genuinely curious how people in Sichuan could eat that many peppers every day. How did their stomachs survive.

While Kai and Mirajane were chatting, Romeo ran into the guild, his face streaked with tears. He rushed straight to Makarov.

Yesterday Romeo had taken pocket money from Kai and happily bought some things to welcome Macao back from his job.

He had waited all the way until late at night, but Macao never came home. Today he came to the guild to ask, and Macao still had not returned.
