Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 : You Should Worry About Yourself… They’re Here!

"Remember to go home and bond properly with your Pokémon."

"As one of the Elite Four, I hope that one day I'll see you all standing proudly before me."

"Dismissed!"

The headmaster finally stopped his endless lecturing. The moment his voice fell, the once-silent plaza filled with the sound of shuffling feet.

"Alright, we know you like us."

"Let's go home first, okay?"

Dolores' cheeks were bright red as she watched the crowd disperse. She held a little floral handkerchief, gently wiping both her own hand and Raylen's.

His clingy gestures—what had startled and confused her at first…

had slowly turned into a warm, sweet feeling she couldn't quite resist.

But then—

"Dolores, you should know that following you… he has no future."

Miss Goth stood not far away, arms crossed, voice full of disdain and jealousy. She had seen how close the tiny Pokémon was to Dolores earlier.

In her eyes, only she deserved the divine Pokémon, Raylen.

"You're so annoying."

Raylen frowned and finally spoke up.

But Miss Goth ignored him completely—just treating him as a clueless newborn. Her arrogant gaze stayed locked on Dolores, who now looked darker and darker.

"For his sake, you should make the right choice."

She lifted her chin proudly.

"Hmph."

With that, Miss Goth scoffed and strutted away, leaving Dolores gloomy and silent.

Raylen sensed something was off and quietly pulled up his system.

The Pokémon Scan interface appeared.

[Pokémon Trainer: Miss Goth (Clarice Goth)][Awakened][Talent: +10% to Psychic-type & Dark-type Pokémon][Pokémon 1/6: Hiker Girl (Affinity 50)][Evaluation: An ambitious heiress who uses any means necessary.]

He glanced at Miss Skirt next.

[Pokémon Trainer: Miss Skirt (Lily Skirt)][Awakened][Talent: +15% to Grass-type Pokémon][Pokémon 1/6: Water-Play Loli (Affinity 65)][Evaluation: A saint who can't resist cute things. Dreams of winning the Contest Festival.]

Finally, he looked at his own "cheap" master—Dolores.

[Pokémon Trainer: Kirlia (Dolores)][Not Awakened][Talent: None][Pokémon 1/0: Raylen (Affinity 30)][Evaluation: A fallen noble girl—vain, hardworking, confident. Her dream is to surpass her sister (Doreina).]

When Raylen saw the 1/0, everything clicked.

Unawakened trainers can't catch Pokémon at all. His system and that Poké Ball had broken the rules.

No wonder Miss Goth was so unwilling to let it go—she should've won that bet from the start.

Dolores couldn't help him much for now…but Raylen felt he didn't need her help anyway.

He was confident he could beat all six of hers alone.

"Dolores, you'll awaken eventually. Don't worry!" Miss Skirt patted her shoulder gently.

"That's not what bothers me… I just made him repeat a year because of me."Dolores' voice softened with guilt.

Without adventuring, a Pokémon's growth rate always suffered.

The three of them walked down the bustling street.

Raylen paid zero attention to the two girls' conversation—his eyes were glued to the strange and wonderful world around him.

Pokémon of every shape and size walked the streets. Some humans mixed naturally among them.

A towering Machamp wearing a uniform stood at an intersection, directing traffic.

Inside a shop, a Meowth in overalls waved customers in.

A Ninetales flicked its nine fluffy tails gracefully while calling out to sell its goods.

A proud Arcanine patrolled with steady steps, the badge on its collar shining.

A human child stretched out her hand—a small flame sparked from her fingertip, making nearby Pokémon gasp in awe while she beamed proudly.

This world was filled with harmony…though harmony didn't mean no chaos.

"My wallet—pikaaa!"

A round Pikachu clutched its empty pocket and dashed frantically after a fleeing figure.

"He's at it again!"

The patrolling Arcanine recognized the culprit instantly and whistled for backup.

Raylen glanced in that direction—and saw a nimble youth sprinting away. As he passed, he flashed Raylen a grin and gave a casual wave.

[Wild Pokémon: Thief Boy – Juvenile Stage of the Rogue Bandit][Rarity: Common][Type: Dark][Moves: Steal, Sleight of God, Quick Escape, Taunt][Evaluation: Loves stealing things even when they're useless to him. Can't help himself.]

"Need me to steal your Poké Ball back?" the boy asked with a mischievous smirk.

"No." Raylen replied flatly.

"Tch. Another tamed mutt." The boy rolled his eyes.

"You should worry about yourself. They're here."

Approaching footsteps echoed sharply—a squad of Arcanine rushed in, flanked by Golbat reinforcements.

"I'm not scared of them!" the thief boy shouted.

But his legs were already running at full speed.

[Move: Radiant Judgment!]

Unfortunately for him—A clear, cold voice rang out:

"You again? Traitor!"

The thief boy froze the instant he saw the speaker, collapsing hopelessly to the ground before being pinned by the dog squad.

Raylen looked toward the voice.

A girl in a pink uniform stood there, long hair tied in a high ponytail. Her eyes curved gently, yet radiated firm justice.

The fitted uniform outlined her youthful, upright figure, the badge on her chest gleaming proudly.
