Chapter 2 - Bloodlines Awaken(2)

Lioran of the Vale clan

" What are you hesitating for?!!" Lioran asked furious.

" Come at me!!"

He was damp with sweat. His wavy chestnut brown hair sticking to his forehead and his amber eyes gave a glint of murderous light. He was angry and fired up today and everyone in the castle knew the reason behind it all.

The younger vampire he was dueling with was trembling, fear written on every part of him.

" But….. your lordship….why?..I can't do that. Please spare me" he stammered. His eyes begging for mercy.

Lioran stopped mid-way. Eyes assessing the trembling vampire before him then he snorted.

"How are you a member of the Vale clan?" he asked.

"You're such a sissy"

The vampire bowed his head. Heat rising to his cheeks. It was not that he didn't dare to fight back, but when Lioran Vale gets the challenge he was looking for…he gets carried away and things tend to get sabotaged.

" I'm sorry…for not meeting up to your expectation, your lordship" he apologized, bowing all the way down.

Lioran's eyes lingered on him,the former fury disappearing from him. Then he sighed and turned around.

" Train more. Because next time,if you don't do well…" he paused then he looked over his shoulder.

" I'll kill you"

The younger vampire stiffened. His eyes going wide in fear and shock. The coldness in Lioran's tone was no joke.

" I'll do better! I promise." he said in fearful determination.

Lioran scoffed again, heading towards the door. His steps were heavy, his shoulders tense and though his gaze seemed relaxed, unrest flickered beneath.

" Your lordship, your father wishes to see you" a guard said as soon as he set his foot out of the training grounds.

Lioran raised an eyebrow. He had seen this coming.

" What tricks did those fools pull up again?" he asked no one in particular.

" I have no idea, your lordship." the guard replied and Lioran frowned.

" And who asked you?" he asked sternly.

The guard stiffened. Then he bowed slightly.

" My apologies, your lordship. I assumed you were seeking an answer" he said.

Lioran rolled his eyes And sighed.

" Where is he?"

" His study,your lordship"

Lioran nodded then he was off, taking a turn to the study. He was sure this had something to do with the other clans. They never seemed to rest and that made his life more adventurous than he intended.

" I hope I don't have to sit through another meetings of argument" he mumbled

As he stepped into the entrance of his father's study, the atmosphere changed instantly. It felt colder and more void than even Lioran's own bedchamber.

He was used to this coldness and had long since embraced it with a smile.

The pillars stood high with the clan's emblem carved into each one. A soft-white lily surrounded by a halo. On the walls were portraits of the previous clan leaders. Their gazes were unsettling and chilling. In the center of it all, was his father. Seated on his throne like chair, surrounded by scrolls and unfinished documents.

Damaris Vale, present clan leader of the Vale clan.

Damaris didn't immediately look up upon noticing Lioran's presence. Instead, he focused more on the scrolls he was reading. His silver streaked black hair tied neatly behind him. His deep blue eyes holding more coldness than the cemetery behind the castle. Lioran exhaled then he bowed slightly.

" Father, you sent for me." he said.

Damaris looked up meeting his gaze. He leaned back on the chair, his eyes lingering momentarily on Lioran before he spoke.

" What took you so long?" he asked. His voice was cold, with no trace of warmth.

" I was training." Lioran replied, standing upright to meet his father's gaze.

Damaris gaze lingered on Lioran not failing to notice the flicker of annoyance in his eyes.

" Training or venting?" he asked and Lioran's jaw tightened.

" You shouldn't let the younger ones fear you." Damaris said

" I want them to fear me. With fear comes respect." Lioran said sharply.

" You taught me that."

Damaris smiled. A wide, proud smile.

"Mmm. I assume you know the reason why I called you here." he said.

Lioran stayed silent. He was waiting for a reason. An explainable reason as to why he was being sent off. His father knew that too.

" That old fool from Vesper is up to something and it is of no good too" Damaris started.

Lioran raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing.

" Isn't it somewhat off to call him old, father? There isn't much difference between the two of you." Lioran said, sarcasm laced in his tone.

Damaris frowned this time. Then he stood from his chair and walked just a few steps closer to Lioran. They were measured, calculated.

" I didn't call you here to hear your angry venting." he said.

" Kaelen Vesper will be going to the academy and it is quite clear that he isn't just going to study."

" Or …maybe he is going to do just that." Lioran countered.

" And besides, whether he goes to the academy or not, what has that got to do with me?"

" Everything. It has everything to do with you." Damaris said. He took a long look at Lioran before proceeding further.

" I need you to keep an eye on Kaelen."

Lioran furrowed his eyebrows. His hands tightening to a fist by his sides.

" So I am a spy?" he asked.

" If that is how you want to put it, then yes." Damaris replied.

" Father, this is outrageous! The Vesper clan have their own shit to deal with and it is none of our business!" Lioran yelled.

Damaris' countenance turned colder and more chilling. Lioran knew he had crossed the line but he didn't care. He had always listened to his father. Let him control his life however he pleased, but this had gone to far.

" You will not use vulgar language with me, Lioran" he said.

" Then stop this madness. You don't have to suspect everyone's action." Lioran said.

" Is this your way of saying no?" Damaris asked, his tone dropping to a dangerous level.

Lioran sighed. He couldn't say no, even if he wanted to.

" No, father. I am just concerned about the level of your paranoia." he replied.

" Keep a close eye on Kaelen. Report to me if you must, but if you can take care of him… then do it" Damaris said turning back to sit on his chair.

" If I spy on him…don't you think he would notice?" Lioran asked and Damaris chuckled. An unsettling kind.

" Then make sure he doesn't notice. Put your training to good use." he said finalizing their conversation.

Lioran bowed again then he turned to the exit. He was angry but there was nothing he could do about it. His father would remain restless as long as any other clans start a movement.

" Kaelen Vesper it is" he mumbled.
