300 years or so, there was a time when all the continent were together, forming a single supercontinent known as pangea. Pangea was surrounded by a huge water body, panthalassa ocean.
50 million years later, 250 million years ago that is, during mesozoic era, a crack formed in the centre of the super continent. And a sea formed because of that crack, this sea was known as Tethys sea.
The seperateed land were known as Laurasia of north and Gondwanaland of south.
And due to tectonic plate movement, eventually, current continent were formed through the process of separation.
