Chapter 2 - The News….

Lela followed the trail of blood th rough the woods and into a cave. She could hear squelching noises, which turned her stomach. She did not want to face the creature within but if she didn't, she knew that the village would be in danger.

She walked into the cave and a foul odor hit her like a punch in the face. She crept closer, her sword at the ready. The squelching suddenly stopped, the ominous silence pressed down on her. She strained to picked up any hint of the creature as she crept forward.

In a matter of seconds, the creature grabbed her from behind with one of it's tentacles, squeezing her neck.

"…What do we have here?" It wrapped another tentacle around her arms, restraining her. It turned her around, and when it came into view she shuddered. It was a demon. It's skin was an unhealthy gray, it had long tentacles moving all around it. It was tall and muscular, and she could tell "it" was a male. As he sniffed the air, she could see his erect member and she trembled in fear of what was to come. His beastial face showed excitement, as if sensing prey. She could also see fangs jutting out and black horns protruding from his head. His red glowing eyes stared at her, considering.

"You are female…" he said with a demonic chuckle. "You will serve my purpose."

Although he had her restrained, he reached out with a muscular arm an with his strength, ripped off the leather armor of the town guard. He held her there, naked, and licking his lips lasciviously.

"You shall serve as the vessel for my seed. Through you, my progeny will be born and we shall take over this world."

One of the tentacles that wasn't restraining her slithered between her legs, at the end of the tentacles had stinger protruding from it. Lela struggled hard but couldn't free herself. She felt the tentacle go between her legs and painfully inserted itself into her most intimate parts. It felt like a knife was being shoved in to her. She passed out from the pain.

"…biopsy came back positive for cancer."

It took me a moment to process. Did she say what I think she said?

I look at Dr Ahd in stunned silence, I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I could hear her saying something about cancer but I couldn't process it.

"Not that any cancer is good, but the good news is we caught it early and it's treatable. The good news is there aren't any masses or tumors that have been detected. We are going to refer you to oncology for treatment. Missy, your manager is working on getting you an appointment." She looked at me, and softly asked, "Do you have any questions?"

"…Um…where can I read more about this?" I said my voice breaking. "I'd like to get some more information."

She nodded and excused herself. I sat there, in shock, thinking, how could this happen and why?

She returned and gave me a print out of the information.

"If you need a moment, you are welcome to stay here."

"I think I'm going to the phone room, I need to call my husband." She nodded and I got up to walk back to my desk. Sera stopped me and with sympathy in her eyes gave me a big hug. It took everything I had not to cry.

She released me from the hug and I made the long walk back to the phone room. A few of my coworkers said hello and and tried to make light conversation and I don't remember my response. I sat down at my desk and used my cell phone to call my husband.

"Honey….I have something to tell you," I said, beginning to quietly cry. "I have cancer. Can you pick me up?"

"What….you have cancer?"

"Yeah, can you pick me up? I need to go home."

"Yeah, I'll be there as soon as I can."

As soon as I hung up my boss called.

"Hello?"

"I need you to write this down. You have an appointment for Monday with oncology at 8:45."

"Thank you, Missy, I appreciate it."

"Shawn, I'm so sorry. Do you need a few days off?"

"Um…. I called my husband and he's going to pick me up but I'll let you know. I'm just going to crochet until he gets here."

"No problem. Just keep me posted."

With that I hung up and pulled out my crochet bag. I loved to crochet in my lunch break since it was an hour long and it was a good way to occupy my time. Tears began to fall as I began to crochet. My coworker in the phone room overheard my conversation and came over and gave me a big hug. I cried silently as I waited to be picked up. My world had shattered, and I didn't know how to pick up the pieces.
