Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Hades kicked open the half-height door of the livestock shed, which was only half the size of a normal door, and immediately, the scent of hay wafted towards him.

He greedily took two deep breaths; such a pure, natural scent was rare in his world, only found in high-end experiential ranches.

However, the satisfaction from the scent was fleeting, replaced by the sight of a pitch-dark house, with moonlight only filtering in through the 'gaps' between the roof and the wooden plank walls.

Calling them 'gaps' might be inappropriate, as the spaces between the roof and the walls were clearly left open intentionally for ventilation, so apart from the haystacks placed inside the livestock shed, there was nowhere to keep warm.

Hades carried the basket Enri had given him and approached a pile of hay, grabbing a handful and bringing it to his nose to smell it; the hay itself had no other strange odors.

Fortunately, the livestock shed had not yet been used, and besides the smell of wood and hay, there were no strange odors.

Hades sat cross-legged on a haystack on the ground and lifted the linen cloth covering the basket, which was there to prevent dust from falling in.

Inside were several long, brown pieces of bread, and next to them was a ceramic pot.

Hades picked up the ceramic pot and shook it; there was liquid inside.

Using the moonlight, he looked into the opening of the pot and vaguely saw some bean-like objects beneath the cloudy liquid.

He sniffed it; although there was an indescribable smell, he could detect the aroma of beans and some saltiness.

It was probably soup boiled with beans.

He picked up the wooden spoon from inside the basket and stirred it.

The smell of the beans made his stomach feel even hungrier.

Even so, he didn't dare to take a bite.

Although agriculture had almost collapsed in his world, it hadn't become extinct, and for the wealthy class, life hadn't changed much.

Hades had never eaten such a thing.

The indescribable strange taste in the soup made him recoil, but fortunately, there was bread.

However, when he picked up the grayish-brown bread, the sensation from his hand immediately told him something was wrong.

Because the bread was hard.

He gently squeezed it with his hand, but he couldn't even make a dent.

Hades was stunned, looking at the bean soup in the ceramic pot, and instantly understood the purpose of the soup.

Hades couldn't help but complain inwardly.

If not for this soup, he probably wouldn't have been able to eat this bread.

Thankfully, the girl named Enri was kind-hearted, otherwise, he would have broken a few teeth.

He wasn't a fool; he naturally saw that Enri's father had originally only intended to give him a few pieces of this black bread, which was as hard as a stone.

Even so, he couldn't complain.

To help a stranger who knocked on their door in the middle of the night was enough to show Enri's father's kind heart.

Moreover, perhaps they weren't wealthy, and Enri had clearly taken out more food than her father had requested, so she might even be scolded for it later.

Thinking of this, he felt grateful, and the strange-tasting bean soup no longer seemed so difficult to swallow.

Hades dipped the bread, which was comparable to a stone, into the bean soup and took a big, forceful "crunching" bite.

Unexpectedly, though the bread felt hard, it wasn't that difficult to chew when eaten.

Only the taste made him frown, but in his hungry state, he didn't care much.

Before long, the pieces of bread were all gone, and Hades even tilted his head back and swallowed all the bean soup.

Rubbing his stomach, Hades leaned against the haystack and let out a soft burp.

The taste that came back up from his stomach made him frown again.

Even though it tasted incredibly bad to Hades, at least it filled his stomach.

"So…"

Hades suddenly sat up straight, looked at the now empty basket, rubbed his stomach, and licked his lips, his expression suddenly falling.

"It really is the real world…"

Hades confirmed this fact with disappointment.

Before, he had held onto a sliver of hope, thinking that it was just a device malfunction that had trapped him in a virtual world.

But no matter how realistic a virtual world was, it couldn't simulate eating.

Smell, taste, and swallowing—these sensations simply couldn't be achieved in a virtual world.

Hades admitted that he was just unwilling to face the truth.

In fact, when he first arrived in this world, he had already noticed the sense of smell, which his virtual equipment couldn't simulate.

But to conclude that he had arrived in the real world based solely on smell would be too ridiculous.

He needed to find evidence that he was trapped in a virtual world.

But with that slap and this meal, his illusions were completely shattered.

Hades felt an urge to cry, but rationality told him that panic would not help his current situation.

"First is…"

Hades stood up and twisted his body.

If the information that flashed through his mind while talking to Enri's father wasn't a hallucination, then although he had come to another world, he seemed to have retained everything from YGGDRASIL.

He tried to bring up the character information panel again, and sure enough, in the next moment, a set of data appeared in his mind.

Looking at this information, both strange and familiar, Hades suddenly remembered that he had flown down from the sky.

As a pure warrior class, he couldn't use any magic, but if he used items, there would be no problem.

Touching the "Flying Necklace" hanging inside his clothes, Hades paused for a moment, silently chanting "activate" in his heart.

He had only intended to test it, but he didn't expect it to succeed immediately.

He felt his body become weightless, slowly floating in the air, and at the same time, in the depths of his consciousness, he instantly understood how to control his flight.

He had experienced this feeling once before, at the very beginning of his transmigration, because he was in a flying state at the time, and he had overlooked this 'insignificant' matter due to the drastic change in environment.

After a moment, Hades stopped the flying effect, then took a few deep breaths, and looked seriously at his right wrist.

His heart suddenly began to accelerate.

On his wrist, he wore a dark green wrist ornament that clung tightly to his skin.

This wrist ornament was an item and did not occupy an equipment slot.

Although this item was not equipment, it was more important than equipment, because it was one of the two hundred World Items in YGGDRASIL, the world tree seed.

Hades didn't know if this item would activate successfully, as changing races was too absurd for the real world.

No, speaking of absurd, flying in reality also couldn't be achieved by just a necklace.

Hades hadn't fully considered this place to be the real world before, but now that he thought about it seriously, he had been in a state that was impossible in the real world from the very beginning.
