Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Academy Starts

Chapter 7: Academy Starts

Today was the first day at the Academy.

Kaito woke up at 5 AM, washed up, and completed his morning exercises.

After finishing, he took a quick shower and jogged to the Academy.

Classes started at 8 AM. He'd been assigned to Class 4-A on the fourth floor.

Upon entering the classroom, he saw that many students had already arrived—over 25 were already there.

He walked in and sat on an empty bench near the back.

He noticed that most of the students here were children from ninja clans, wearing their family crests proudly displayed on their clothing.

Kaito was genuinely puzzled.

This classroom isn't very large—it can hold forty people at most. Does that mean we have more than ten classes in this year?

At 8 o'clock sharp, Adachi Genki entered the classroom.

He first distributed Academy ID cards to everyone.

Then he introduced himself with an easy smile.

"Welcome to the Academy. I am Adachi Genki, and I'll be your homeroom teacher this year. Let's get to know each other. I'm also a Konoha chunin who participated in the Third Great Ninja War. My hobbies include watching theatrical performances, and I genuinely enjoy teaching young students like yourselves. Now then, why don't you all introduce yourselves?"

The children began introducing themselves one by one.

The clan children spoke proudly about their family legacies and traditions.

Kaito took the opportunity to understand the composition of his class.

There were 30 students total.

Two were from the Uchiha clan, three from the Hyuga, two each from the Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi clans, three from the Inuzuka, one Aburame, and one each from the Sarutobi, Shimura, Kato, and Hatake clans. Surprisingly, there were also three Senju and two Kurama clan members. The remaining 6 students, including Kaito, were from civilian families with no ninja heritage.

After the students finished their introductions, Genki spoke again.

"Alright, let me tell you about this class. This year, 430 students passed the entrance examination, and you 30 achieved the highest scores. Everyone has very high expectations for each of you."

"You must all strive to become exceptional and powerful shinobi, which is why the Academy assigned an elite instructor like myself to your class."

"Additionally, other specialized instructors will provide assistance when needed. You'll also have access to Sections E and D of the Academy Library. There will be a special evaluation exam every six months, personally supervised by the Hokage himself, so work hard!"

After hearing this, everyone felt a surge of pride and determination, sitting up straighter and paying closer attention.

Kaito thought to himself, My luck is pretty good—this seems to be an elite class. Any questions I have should get answered quickly by qualified instructors.

And those two Library sections should contain Rank E and Rank D jutsu scrolls.

Kaito wondered if there were higher-ranked sections and made a mental note to investigate later.

Since it was the first day, Genki took them on a comprehensive tour of the Academy.

They visited all the main facilities—various classrooms, the Library, the training grounds, and the cafeteria area.

At the training grounds, different zones were pointed out: the running track, obstacle course, target practice range, and a balance training area with numerous poles of varying heights.

There was also a small pond at the far end of the training grounds—clearly meant for water-walking practice eventually.

After the tour, they returned to their classroom.

Genki also explained what curriculum they'd be studying this year—mainly foundational knowledge.

They would learn about chakra theory, hand seals, chakra control techniques, taijutsu basics, genjutsu theory, shuriken throwing, as well as regular academic subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, language arts, history, geography, and civics.

Afterward, the first day's classes concluded.

After dismissal, Kaito quickly left and headed straight for the Library.

On the way, he encountered Takeshi and Tatsuya.

Takeshi called out to him, "Hey, Kaito! How are you settling in?"

Kaito turned and responded, "Hey, I'm doing well. How was your first day?"

Takeshi replied enthusiastically, "It was pretty interesting! We got a tour of the whole Academy."

Kaito nodded. "Yeah, us too. How many students are in your class?"

Takeshi blinked in surprise. "Uh? One hundred. Isn't every class like that?"

Tatsuya joined the conversation. "Yeah, mine has about a hundred students too."

Kaito raised his eyebrows. "I see. Our class only has thirty students."

Takeshi looked confused. "Huh? Why is that?"

Kaito didn't want to make them feel bad, nor did he want to answer probing questions, so he simply said he didn't know either.

Afterward, Takeshi asked if Kaito wanted to walk home together. Kaito politely declined, citing other plans.

After parting ways with them, Kaito resumed walking toward the Library.

On the way, he pulled out a ration bar, eating it as he thought.

I understand now. My class only has 30 students while the other classes each have around 100. So there are probably just 5 classes total this year.

According to what Genki had said today, their class would likely receive specialized training with the goal of producing jonin-level shinobi, or at minimum elite chunin.

For the other classes, the primary goal was probably just increasing Konoha's genin reserves.

If those students were lucky, some might become chunin or even jonin eventually.

Upon entering the Library, he showed his new Academy ID to the librarian and asked for directions to the different sections.

After getting the information, he learned the Library was organized into 7 distinct sections.

There was a general section containing non-shinobi related information, Section 0 which contained basic ninja-related fundamentals, and then Sections E, D, C, B, and A.

Sections A, B, and C were currently restricted to him based on his student rank.

Kaito thought with interest, I see, that makes perfect sense. There's no S-rank section here, but that's understandable—they wouldn't make those high-level forbidden techniques publicly available.

Kaito was genuinely surprised there was even an A-rank section in the Academy Library.

I wonder what kind of jutsu are stored there.

Anyway, he felt excited to begin exploring what was available to him.

Kaito skipped the general section entirely and started from Section 0, browsing the titles of various scrolls to understand their contents.

He discovered many fundamental but crucial topics.

Information about chakra theory, chakra control methods, chakra manipulation, nature transformation, fuinjutsu basics, genjutsu principles, taijutsu styles, and much more were all catalogued here.

It also contained extensive historical records about past conflicts and notable shinobi.

Then he moved on to check Sections E and D, where most scrolls contained E-rank and D-rank jutsu.

He thought with pleasant surprise, Wow, I didn't expect this! There are hundreds of different ninjutsu scrolls here. And quite a lot of Wind Release techniques too.

Section E had a scroll titled 'Introduction to Fuinjutsu,' while Section D had a more advanced version. These would be extremely helpful.

It took him over two hours just to browse through the titles of the various scrolls and get a general sense of what was available.

Subsequently, he returned to Section 0 and selected a scroll titled 'Fundamentals of Hand Seals.'

He walked to a secluded corner and sat down cross-legged on the floor.

There were very few people in the Library at this hour, so no one would disturb him.

Kaito thought to himself as he unrolled the scroll, Alright, I've surveyed most of what's available. Now that I finally have proper resources, I need to make concrete plans—at least for the next few years of training.
