Chapter 5 - Ningguang's Gamble: Five Jars and a Devil Fruit

"As for items better than a Vision, there are simply too many to count. I wouldn't know where to begin. While it's rare to pull such treasures from a Common Jar, it's not impossible. It all comes down to luck."

"But talk is cheap. Why not buy a few and see for yourself?"

"Very well."

Ningguang nodded. "I'll start with one. As for the Mora, I haven't brought enough cash with me, but I'll have someone fetch it immediately."

She had left in a hurry and didn't carry large sums on her person.

"I'm afraid I don't offer credit. No Mora, no jars."

Felix smiled politely but firmly. "However, you're welcome to choose your jar while you wait."

"I must pay first?"

Ningguang raised an eyebrow. Was he afraid she would default on the debt? She, the Tianquan of Liyue?

Still, business was business. She didn't argue. Turning to the Millelith guards, she ordered them to retrieve the funds.

Captain Changqing acknowledged the order and departed swiftly.

A short while later, he returned, carrying a heavy coin purse.

"Eh? The captain went out and came back with a money bag. Is someone opening a jar?"

"It must be Lady Ningguang. Who else would send the Millelith to fetch Mora? I wonder what she'll get?"

"Is she testing the shop personally? I thought she was going to shut it down."

"Why would she shut it down for no reason? Don't be ridiculous."

...

Outside, the crowd buzzed with excitement as they saw the money arrive. All eyes were glued to the shop interior, eager to see what the Tianquan would pull.

Inside, Ningguang handed a portion of the Mora to Felix.

The bag contained far more than one hundred thousand. Each coin was a high-denomination piece worth a thousand Mora; a stack of one hundred was all it took.

Felix took the coins and tossed them casually onto the counter. "Have you made your choice?"

"That one."

Ningguang pointed to the third jar from the left on the top shelf.

Felix retrieved it and placed it before her.

Without hesitation, Ningguang tapped the clay surface with a jade-white finger.

Crack.

The jar shattered instantly, and an item fell out.

It appeared to be a stack of paper.

"Paper?"

Ningguang picked it up, perplexed. The sheets were covered in dense, black symbols.

"Explosive Tags. A type of paper charm that detonates," Felix explained. "There are ten in total. To use them, simply attach one to a target and detonate it with a burst of energy. A single tag has enough power to blow a person to pieces, leaving no corpse behind. They're waterproof and function even on water. Very versatile. Ten tags for one hundred thousand Mora? A solid return."

Ningguang had pulled Explosive Tags.

[Square Explosive Tag]: A white paper charm, roughly the size of two standard talismans. The center bears the character for 'Explode' (爆), surrounded by a complex script and a thin black border. Detonates upon activation via external energy.

"Charms?"

Ningguang examined them closely. "These aren't ordinary. While Liyue has its adepti arts and Inazuma has its Onmyoudou, the design here matches neither. Are you from Inazuma?"

"Don't try to label me."

Felix shook his head with a laugh. "I'm just a jar merchant who likes the atmosphere in Liyue. I have no ties to Inazuma."

"These aren't the most precious items, but they're certainly worth the price. So, care to open another?"

He raised an eyebrow. If Ningguang cleared out his inventory, that would be ideal.

"Give me four more."

Ningguang didn't hesitate. she handed the entire money bag to Felix.

"Done!"

Felix beamed.

As expected of the Tianquan—buying five jars in one go. That was more than he usually sold in days.

He lined up four more jars.

One by one, Ningguang smashed them open.

Items appeared amidst the shards: a pill, a bean, a book, and finally, a strange fruit.

Ningguang looked at Felix, waiting for an explanation.

"Oh?"

Felix raised an eyebrow as he identified the items.

She had actually pulled some serious treasures. To get these from Common Jars... her luck was formidable.

[Eternal Youth Pill]: A pill refined by an alchemist from an unknown world. Consuming it permanently locks the user's physical appearance at its current state.

[Senzu Bean]: A miraculous bean grown by an immortal in an unknown world. Restores a person's physical stamina and spiritual energy to their peak instantly.

[Economics & Management: Volume 1]: A comprehensive guide on monetary equilibrium, currency stabilization, and economic growth strategies.

[Paramecia Devil Fruit: Wash-Wash Fruit]: A mystical fruit from a world of oceans. It grants the user the ability to wash and hang out people and objects as if they were laundry, cleansing the evil from their hearts. Note: This fruit has been altered by the laws of this world. The user will become a 'landlubber,' unable to swim. Submersion in water will drain all strength and disable the ability.

Four items. Aside from the second one—which was a bit of a dud compared to the others—the rest were incredibly useful to Ningguang.

The Eternal Youth Pill was every woman's dream.

The Economics book would allow her to rule Liyue's markets with even greater absolute authority.

And the Devil Fruit... while it came with a curse, its power to "cleanse evil" was a terrifying tool for someone in her position.

Ningguang frowned at the items. She recognized the book, but since it was face down, she couldn't read the title. The others were complete mysteries.

She looked at Felix.

Since he sold them, he must know their worth.
