"We are here for the ceremony of remembrance," Caelan said, staring at Lady Gloria until she withdrew from her embrace with Lilian. "I intend to remain with my wife for the entirety of the proceedings."
For a fleeting moment, Gloria's smile faltered when she met his gaze. A flicker of unease crossed her features as she wondered how he had overheard her whispered exchange with Lilian.
Since when?
Even if he heard, why did he care?
Aren't they supposed to despise one another?
Almost immediately, she schooled her expression into one of serene innocence as she met Caelan's stare, as though she had no idea what he was insinuating.
"I don't understand, Your Grace," she said.
