Chapter 88 - CHAPTER 88 — The One Fate Sends Next

Jason Wu did not move for a long moment.

He simply stared at the space where the Sentinel had vanished—a thin scar of warped air, slowly knitting itself shut.

The wind in Silverwood Realm seemed to hesitate around him.Even the birds stayed quiet, as if double-checking whether he was safe to chirp at.

Longwu Sword broke the silence.

["So… Fate sends a cosmic debt collector, you scream at it, swing at empty air, and somehow win."]

Jason wiped blood from his lips.

"I didn't scream."

["Boy, you howled like a martial artist whose credit card just got declined."]

Jason sighed."Fine. I panicked a little."

["A little?!"]

He ignored the sword and leaned back against the nearest tree—the same one that had miraculously not been obliterated by the Sentinel.

He took a long breath.

His chest still burned from the backlash of breaking a Foundational Rule. His cultivation felt messy, like someone had shaken his meridians inside a glass jar.

But beneath all that…

He felt solid.

His presence anchored. His identity unerasable. His "story" now stitched into reality with iron thread.

No more silent erasure. No more fading footprints. No more cosmic editors crossing out his name.

He existed.Firmly.

For the first time, the world acknowledged him back.

Jason smiled.

"That felt… good."

Longwu buzzed.

["You know what doesn't feel good? The consequences."]

Jason blinked."…The Sentinel was the consequence."

["Boy."]

Longwu's voice grew flat.

["Sentinel-level response means Fate is taking you seriously. The next one won't be a foot soldier."]

Jason frowned.

"Foot soldier? It nearly folded me like laundry."

["Yes. And the next thing Fate sends won't nearly do it."]

Jason's smile vanished.

"…Ah."

THE WORLD REACTS

The forest shifted.

Something subtle.

Like the world itself inhaled.

Silverwood Realm—cheap, simple, often overlooked—suddenly felt aware of him.

The leaves rustled in his direction.Shadows bent as if staring.Even stones felt aligned, like quiet observers.

Jason whispered:

"…Okay, this is creepy."

Longwu hummed thoughtfully.

["You bent narrative causality. The realm is adjusting to accommodate your… new label."]

"What label?"

Longwu paused.

["…Protagonist."]

Jason gagged.

"No—no. Absolutely not. I refuse. Too much pressure."

["Boy, you just deleted a cosmic erasure law. You ARE pressure."]

Jason groaned into his hands.

He could not be a protagonist. He barely managed waking up most mornings.

CALLBACK: THE CONSEQUENCE OF ARC 14

A rustle came from behind.

Jason's posture snapped—hand gripping Longwu tightly.

But then a familiar voice muttered:

"Relax, Jason. I'm not here to stab you. Yet."

Jason blinked.

"Lan Yuren?"

Indeed—the senior brother stepped out of the brush, face stern as always, carrying a bundle of herbs and a tired expression.

Jason stared.

"…What are you doing here?"

Lan Yuren raised a brow.

"Saving your life, apparently. AGAIN."

Jason frowned.

"No, seriously, why—"

Lan Yuren held up a cracked jade slip.

Jason recognized it immediately.

The emergency beacon from Chapter 14.The one Jason had accidentally activated during a stupid training accidentinvolving a cliff, a rabbit, and Longwu yelling "BET YOU WON'T JUMP."

Jason had forgotten about it.

Lan Yuren had not.

"I received the distress signal," Lan said simply. "So I came."

Jason blinked.

"That was weeks ago."

Lan sighed deeply.

"Yes.But you activate these things so often I eventually set them to…archive."

He displayed the jade.

Sure enough—Jason's previous distress calls were marked:

Ignored.Ignored.Ignored.Ignored (suspected false alarm).Ignored (Jason-specific).Ignored (THIS ONE AGAIN).

Jason made a face."…Wow. I feel insulted."

Lan deadpanned.

"That was my intention."

THE SCENT OF A NEW THREAT

Jason stood up, brushing off dirt.

"Lan, seriously—you shouldn't be near me right now.Something big is coming."

Lan narrowed his eyes.

"Bigger than the thing you just fought?"

Jason hesitated.

Longwu answered for him.

["The next one is going to be at least Grand-Cosmic-Administrator-level-tier-zero-plus-tax."]

Lan blinked.

"What?"

Jason waved him off.

"Don't worry about it."

Lan's eyebrow twitched.

"I just heard you angered Fate."

Jason pointed at Longwu.

"HE said it. I didn't."

Longwu clicked.

["I speak only truth."]

"Shut up."

["No."]

Lan Yuren massaged his nose bridge.

"Jason… what did you do?"

Jason tried to look innocent.

"I broke a rule."

Lan stared.

"…Which one?"

Jason hesitated.

Longwu answered again.

["The one that says he doesn't matter."]

Lan froze.

Completely.

Then he whispered:

"…Jason.You absolute idiot."

Jason puffed his chest.

"Thank you."

"That wasn't a compliment."

THE NEXT ARRIVAL

A sudden pulse rolled through the forest.

Both Jason and Lan snapped their attention toward the treeline.

A ripple—like someone had plucked reality's string—echoed across the air.

Longwu stiffened.

["Uh-oh."]

Jason tensed.

"Uh-oh? What do you mean uh-oh? Longwu, be specific!"

["Jason… this is the feeling I get when someone higher-ranked is about to enter the chatroom."]

Jason's face dropped.

"Oh no."

Lan drew his sword.

"What is coming?"

Jason whispered:

"Something Fate sent."

Lan stepped in front of him.

"I'll protect—"

Jason grabbed his shoulder.

"Lan. No.You don't understand.This isn't a cultivator. It isn't even a being."

The air tore.

A thin slit opened—not like the jagged Riftbound entrance—but a perfectly clean, vertical cut.

As if some librarian god had drawn a line through the page of existence.

Jason gulped.

"…This is bad."

Longwu whispered:

["Jason, brace yourself. This one has manners.Which means it's strong."]

THE ONE SENT BY FATE

A figure stepped out of the slit.

It was not monstrous. Not terrifying. Not distorted.

It looked…

Human.

A man in simple white robes.Barefoot.Calm expression.Dark hair tied loosely.Hands behind his back.

His presence wasn't crushing.

It was the opposite.

He felt like nothing.

Like an empty page.

Lan Yuren shook, though he didn't know why.

Jason swallowed.

"…Who are you?"

The man tilted his head.

"My name is not relevant.I am simply here to correct an irregularity."

Jason's stomach dropped.

"Oh crap. You're polite."

The man blinked slowly.

"Courtesy is the least I can offer. After all—you have done something remarkable."

Jason winced.

"Yeah yeah, I broke a rule, can we skip the lecture—"

The man raised a finger.

Jason's mouth sealed shut.

Literally.

He couldn't speak. His lips were fused.

He made muffled noises like:"Mmmph! MMPH—!!"

Lan raised his sword to charge—

But the man flicked his eyes in Lan's direction.

Lan froze solid instantly.Like a paused animation.

The man continued:

"You are Jason Wu."

Jason nodded rapidly, still unable to speak.

"You have broken the Rule of Narrative Causality."

Jason nodded faster.

"You have forced your existence into permanence."

Jason nodded like a malfunctioning chicken.

"And now…your story can no longer be trimmed."

Jason nodded, then hesitated. He looked confused.

The man smiled gently.

"You misunderstand.I am not here to delete you."

Longwu whispered:

["…Wait. What."]

Jason blinked.

The man folded his hands politely.

"I am here to warn you."

Jason's eyebrows shot up.

"You are not yet strong enough to face Fate directly. But Fate is… preoccupied."

Jason frowned.

The man continued:

"And so, for the first time in a thousand eras—Fate has made a mistake."

He leaned forward slightly.

"Breaking your rule made you visible."

Jason nodded slowly.

"But it also made your enemies panic."

Jason's eyes widened.

"Oh no."

The man nodded.

"Yes.They have moved prematurely."

He reached out and tapped Jason's forehead lightly.

Jason felt a wave of information sink into him—a direction, a place,a presence he recognized.

His breath caught.

"…No."

The man stepped back into the slit.

"Jason Wu.The next threat is not from Fate."

He paused.

"It is from someone who knows you very, very well."

The slit closed.

Silence.

Lan collapsed to his knees, free again.Jason gasped, his mouth un-sealing.

He whispered, trembling:

"…That presence.That feeling.That signature."

Longwu buzzed nervously.

["…Jason. Who is it?"]

Jason's voice cracked.

"Someone from the Wu Clan."

Longwu froze.

["…But the Wu Clan is dead."]

Jason shook his head slowly.

"No.Not all of them."

He swallowed hard.

"One of them survived."
