Chapter 77 - CHAPTER 77 — The Realm of Silver Echoes

Jason Wu had seen strange places before—

but nothing like this.

The sky above him rippled as if it were made of brushed metal, the clouds shifting like liquid silver. The trees surrounding him grew in spirals, their bark reflecting faint echoes of sound, as if each trunk remembered every vibration that had ever touched it.

Step.

The ground rang.

Not loudly, not sharply—

but like a soft bell struck under water.

Jason froze.

"…Okay. Longwu, where the hell are we?"

The sword vibrated lazily.

*["Congratulations, boy."]*

*["You've officially stepped outside the realm classification system."]*

Jason blinked. "Meaning?"

*["Meaning this place isn't supposed to exist."]*

Jason stared at the shimmering horizon.

"…Great. Love that for me."

He pushed himself to his feet, dusting off what remained of his shredded shirt. The last battle had left deep cuts and bruises across his body. His legs still trembled. His ribs still stung from the Administrator's pressure.

But he was alive.

And Prime wasn't.

His breath hitched.

A raw ache sat under his ribs—anger, grief, guilt, all tangled together.

"…I'm sorry," he whispered to no one.

Longwu's tone softened, just slightly.

*["She chose to defend you, boy."]*

*["Don't insult her by wasting the chance she bought."]*

Jason nodded, swallowing hard.

"You're right… She said this place hides me."

He looked around again.

Silver grass. Echoing ground. Spiral trees that hummed when the wind touched them.

Jason muttered, "Alright. First step: figure out where I am."

He took a cautious step forward.

The ground chimed again—

but this time, the chime repeated on its own.

*Step.*

*Step… step… step…*

Jason froze.

"…Longwu?"

*["That wasn't you. Something here copies sound… then plays it back."]*

Jason slowly turned.

His heartbeat spiked.

A tree behind him shivered—and the bark opened like a mouth.

Not with teeth.

Not with flesh.

But with vibrating strands of silver air that whispered:

**"…Jason Wu…"**

Jason jumped so hard he nearly launched out of his boots.

"WHAT THE—?! HOW DOES IT KNOW MY NAME?!"

Longwu sighed.

*["This realm echoes not only sound… but memory."]*

"…So—what? The trees are gossiping about me?!"

*["Very loudly."]*

Jason pointed accusingly at the vibrating tree.

"STOP SAYING MY NAME! I DON'T CONSENT!"

The tree whispered again, mockingly:

**"Jason Wuuuuu…"**

Jason drew Longwu halfway.

"Say it again. I dare you."

The tree fell silent.

Jason exhaled. "That's what I thought."

He sheathed Longwu and continued walking.

Every step chimed. Every breath echoed faintly. Even Jason's thoughts felt like they rippled across the environment—like the realm wanted to **listen**.

And then—

Something whispered behind him.

**"…Found you."**

Jason's spine turned to ice.

Slowly, carefully, he turned around—

Nothing.

Only grass and rippling air.

Jason muttered under his breath:

"Okay. That wasn't creepy at all."

He kept walking, faster now.

The silver world seemed infinite, horizon bending in a loop. Jason breathed in the metallic air and exhaled slowly.

A faint hum reached his ears.

Longwu sharpened.

*["Jason. Stop."]*

Jason did.

The hum grew clearer—

like footsteps dragging through grass.

But they weren't behind him.

They were above him.

Jason looked up—

The sky rippled—

And something *fell out of it.*

A figure.

A person.

No—

A **reflection**.

Jason's jaw dropped.

"…Is that… me?"

A silver silhouette hit the ground with a soft echo.

Same height.

Same build.

Same hair.

Same sword stance.

But no face.

Just smooth, silver nothingness.

Longwu hissed.

*["Echospawn. Be careful."]*

Jason stepped back slowly.

"Is it aggressive…?"

The Echo-Jason moved instantly.

It lunged.

Fast.

Jason barely leapt aside before a silver blade carved through where his ribs had been a heartbeat ago.

"OKAY! THAT'S A YES!"

He dodged again, rolling on the echoing ground. The silver doppelgänger mimicked his movements with eerie precision.

Not perfectly.

Not exactly.

But close enough to feel wrong.

Jason raised Longwu.

"You want a fight? Fine!"

He lunged—

The Echo lunged too.

Their blades clashed.

*CLANGGG—*

The sound didn't stop.

It rippled outward, repeating itself in the trees, in the sky, in the ground:

*Clang… clang… clang…*

Jason gritted his teeth. "This whole realm is mocking me!"

He pressed harder.

The Echo pressed harder.

Jason twisted, using a footwork pattern Lily drilled into him. The Echo mirrored nearly perfectly, but Jason stepped one beat off-rhythm, baiting it into overextending.

He slammed his shoulder into it and sliced upward—

cutting through the echo-body.

The silver form shattered like liquid glass.

Jason panted hard.

"…That wasn't so ba—"

The sky rippled again.

Jason froze.

Two silver silhouettes dropped this time.

Then three.

Then five.

Jason backed up slowly.

"…Longwu… buddy… my friend… my partner…"

*["Yes, boy?"]*

"…How MANY Echo-Jasons does it plan to throw at me?"

Longwu hummed.

*["All of them."]*

Jason screamed, "WHAT KIND OF ANSWER IS THAT?!"

The Echo-Jasons stepped forward in sync.

A united voice whispered across the realm:

**"…Jason Wu… Jason Wu… Jason Wu…"**

Jason gripped Longwu tight.

"I'm so tired."

*["Then fight tired."]*

Jason cracked his neck.

"Right."

He exhaled.

Then he charged.

---

### **THE SILVER ONSLAUGHT**

Five Echo-Jasons attacked at once.

Jason parried the first, ducked the second, blocked the third with Longwu's flat, and leapt over the fourth.

The fifth got in a clean kick to his ribs.

*CRACK.*

Jason choked.

"Son of—!"

He slashed blindly, forcing them back.

His vision blurred from the pain.

But he kept moving.

The Echoes weren't perfect copies. They were faster in some aspects, slower in others. They replicated techniques, not intention.

Jason used that.

He changed rhythm mid-attack.

Feinted with his left hand.

Kicked their knees instead of aiming for their core.

One shattered.

Two followed.

Jason spat blood and laughed breathlessly.

"Three more—!"

The Echoes moved all at once.

Jason was slammed into the ground.

The impact rattled his bones.

A blade plunged down—

Jason rolled.

Barely.

He swung from the ground, severing another Echo.

Two left.

He rose shakily to his feet.

Blood trickled from his nose.

His ribs screamed.

Longwu whispered:

*["Jason. Listen to me."]*

*["Stop fighting like yourself."]*

Jason blinked.

"…What?"

*["They copy you."]*

*["So stop being 'you' for a moment."]*

Jason stared as the last two Echoes approached.

Their poses mirrored his own.

Jason exhaled.

"…Alright then."

He lowered his sword.

Shifted his stance.

Relaxed his shoulders.

The Echoes hesitated.

Jason grinned.

"Time to try something new."

He moved.

Not with practiced sword forms.

Not with sect techniques.

Not with patterns the Echoes could mimic.

He moved with instinct.

With raw, chaotic will.

Jason spun low, sweeping their legs.

One stumbled.

He elbowed the other across the mask.

Then used Longwu like a hammer, smashing the silver skull.

The final Echo struck his shoulder—

Jason let the momentum carry him forward—

and drove Longwu straight through its chest.

*Shatter.*

*Shatter.*

Silence.

Jason dropped to his hands and knees, gasping.

"…I hate this realm."

Longwu hummed in agreement.

*["Good. Because we have company."]*

Jason looked up.

The sky was no longer rippling silver.

It was cracking.

From the cracks, a shadow leaned through—

long fingers made of static,

a mask of broken probabilities,

a presence that hurt the eyes just to look at.

It whispered:

**"…Anomaly detected."**

Jason felt his heart stop.

Longwu screamed inside his mind.

*["JASON—RUN—NOW!"]*

Jason stumbled backward.

The shadow-entity reached further through the crack.

Reality warped around it.

**"…Termination Directive: Reinforced Level."**

Jason's voice cracked.

"What the—level WHAT?!"

Longwu's voice trembled.

*["Jason…"]*

*["That isn't a Sentinel…"]*

*["That's something worse."]*

Jason stumbled as the entity pushed further into the realm.

This realm was supposed to HIDE him.

So why—

Why was it coming IN?

Longwu growled.

*["Boy—MOVE!"]*

Jason turned—

And froze.

Because something else stepped out from behind a spiral tree.

A figure.

Hooded.

Calm.

Silent.

He raised one hand toward Jason.

Not attacking.

Just pointing.

Jason's heart pounded.

"…Who—"

The figure spoke.

But not with sound.

With **echo**.

**"Jason Wu."**

Jason swallowed.

"Who are you?"

The figure lowered his hood.

Jason's blood turned to ice.

Because the face staring back at him—

Was his own.

Just older.

Colder.

And infinitely more dangerous.

The older Jason spoke:

**"If you want to live…"**

His eyes flicked toward the shadow-entity.

**"Follow me."**

Jason's breath caught.

"…What are you?"

Older Jason smiled faintly.

**"Your future."**

The realm cracked open.

And the hunt began.
