The moment the Observer stepped into the chamber, the temperature dropped so fast Jason Wu saw his own breath curl into the air. The black-robed being moved like a shadow freed from gravity—gliding instead of walking, weightless but terrifyingly solid.
Jason tightened his grip on Longwu, sweat cold on his palms.
Longwu vibrated sharply.["Jason. Do not fight it head-on. I'm not saying you'll die in one hit—though you probably will—but more importantly: you will die embarrassingly."]
Jason exhaled. "Encouragement levels: still consistent."
The Observer stopped five steps away.Cracked mask.Silver lines like broken veins spreading outwards.
When it spoke, the voice felt like it dragged across Jason's bones.
"The Forbidden Echo Chamber is not for you.Your presence here jeopardizes protocol.Correction must be enacted."
Jason steadied his breath."Then you'll have to correct me manually."
The Observer tilted its head.
"So be it."
The chamber's rings pulsed.
Jason moved first.
THE FIRST EXCHANGE — SPEED VS IMPOSSIBILITY
Jason sprinted, sword-qi bursting behind him like a comet's tail. He aimed directly for the crack on the Observer's mask—its one obvious weakness.
Longwu hummed sharply.["Good. Target the fracture. It is the only thing in this room more fragile than your self-esteem."]
Jason swung.
A clean, fast slash.
Precise.
Focused.
Determined.
SHING—!
But the Observer wasn't there.
Jason's blade cut through air.
Instantly—
A hand materialized beside his neck.
Jason barely twisted his body before—
BOOOOOM!
A shockwave erupted, sending him hurtling backward. He rolled across the floor, stone fracturing under his body.
Jason coughed, shaking as he stood."What… what speed is that…?"
Longwu spoke flatly.["Illegal."]
Jason wiped blood from his lip."So normal cultivation rules don't apply to them?"
["No. Observers operate on fate-law physics. You're basically fighting homework."]
Jason readjusted his stance as the Observer reappeared in front of him without moving.
The mask flickered. The crack widened slightly.
A faint whisper bled out from the fracture.
Jason felt his pulse spike.
"…What was that?"
Longwu hissed quietly.
["Jason… the crack is not just a weakness. It's… leaking something."]
Jason's stomach twisted, but he had no time to think.
The Observer raised its hand—and the world twisted.
THE FIRST REAL ATTACK — REALITY SKIP
The floor, the walls, the ceiling—all folded inward like pages in a book.
Jason felt his balance rip away.Gravity shifted.Direction lost meaning.
He heard Longwu shout—
["JASON MOVE—"]
Jason didn't see the attack. He sensed it.
Like a cold whisper sliding toward his spine.
He dropped to the ground on instinct.
SSSHHH—!
A blade of distorted space sheared past his head, slicing clean through a pillar behind him.
Jason rolled forward and leapt upright."What the—?!"
Longwu cursed.["He's using spatial slicing. That shouldn't exist in this timeline—how the hell—?!"]
The Observer floated toward Jason slowly, step by step, as if the kill was inevitable.
Jason grit his teeth.
"This chamber… did it strengthen him?"
"Incorrect,"the Observer answered.
"You simply advanced the timeline."
Jason's heart froze.
"What does that mean?!"
The Observer raised one finger.
Reality twisted again.
"It means you were not meant to survive this far."
THE TURN — JASON'S INSTINCTS AWAKEN
Jason's eyes sharpened.
This enemy was too strong.Too fast.Too unfair.
He couldn't win with force.
But—
Something inside him stirred.A pressure.A low hum beneath his ribs—like invisible gears turning.
Jason blinked.
"…What is this feeling…?"
Longwu went completely still.A rare moment.
["…Jason. Your fate-thread… it's unwinding."]
Jason blinked. "Unwinding?"
["Yes. Like a rope snapping. You're slipping out of the Observer's predictive field."]
Jason tightened his grip.
Meaning—
"—he can't fully predict my movements anymore."
The Observer halted.
As if hearing that thought.
A low crack echoed from its mask. The fissure widened another millimeter.
Jason took a step forward.
"If fate says I can't survive—Then I'll just ignore fate."
Longwu hummed with excitement.["Now THAT is the correct Wu family attitude."]
Jason dashed.
THE CLASH — DEFIER VS OBSERVER
Jason's sword carved arcs of light.
The Observer countered with flicks of its fingers—each movement ripping the air open.
Jason dodged.Barely.Barely.Barely.
Every near-death evasion felt like his instincts were faster than his mind.
Like something else was guiding him.
He swung for the crack—
CLANG!
The impact sent sparks everywhere.
The Observer staggered.
Jason's eyes widened."That worked?!"
Longwu screamed:
["AGAIN! HIT THE CRACK—BEFORE HE RESETS—!"]
Jason swung a second time—
But the Observer vanished.
Reappeared behind him.
Its palm struck Jason's back.
BOOOOM!
Jason hit the ground, coughing blood.
His vision blurred.
He forced himself up.
"I'm… not done…"
The Observer's tone sharpened.
"Your future is noise. The Record should have overwritten you already. Why do you persist?"
Jason spat blood.
"…Because I hate being told what I'm allowed to be."
The Observer paused.
Then—
The crack widened.A soft hiss leaked out.
Longwu's tone darkened.
["Jason… something is trying to escape from behind that mask."]
Jason's breath hitched.
"…A person?"
["…No.Something worse."]
The Observer twitched unnaturally.
"Containment… failing…"
Jason readied Longwu.
But the Observer raised both hands.
The chamber shook violently.
"Fate-law Protocol: CONVERGENCE FIELD."
Jason's knees buckled.
Pressure slammed him into the ground.
As if a mountain sat on his shoulders.
Longwu screamed:
["Jason—DON'T BLACK OUT—!"]
Jason's vision dimmed—
He roared angrily.
And stood.
The Observer flinched.
The crack tore wider.
A whisper escaped—a warped, broken voice layered in agony.
"…free… me…"
Jason's eyes widened.
"What—who—?"
The Observer jerked violently.
Its limbs spasmed. Its fingers clawed at its own mask—as if trying to rip it off.
Jason stepped forward.
"Are you—trapped?"
The Observer's voice came out fractured, split between two tones.
"I… Must… Terminate…ME—OUT—LET—OUT—PROTOCOL—OVERRIDE—"
Jason froze.
There was something inside the Observer.Something imprisoned.
Something trying to escape.
Jason whispered:
"Longwu… is this normal?"
["NO. NOTHING ABOUT THIS IS NORMAL.RUN. NOW."]
Jason didn't run.
He stepped closer.
And the Observer screamed.
"DO NOT APPROACH—FATE WILL ERASE YOU—THEY ARE WATCHING—"
Jason yelled back, voice raw:
"WHO?! Who's watching?!"
Silence.
Then—
The Observer looked up, mask flickering.
And for the first time—
Jason felt it.
A presence behind the presence.A gaze behind the gaze.A watcher beyond the Observer.
Jason stumbled back.
"What… what was that…?"
Longwu whispered, terrified.
["…That was not fate. That was something above fate."]
The chamber darkened.
The Observer's body stiffened, as if forcibly puppeted.
Its voice deepened unnaturally.
"CORRECTION ORDER:JASON WU MUST BE REMOVED."
Jason raised Longwu.
"Then you'll have to try harder."
The Observer lifted its hand—
And the cracked mask finally split open.
Shattering like glass.
Inside was not a face—but a swirling vortex of white and black threads.A screaming maelstrom of imprisoned consciousness.
Jason's breath stopped.
The Observer staggered—and something crawled out of the mask's fracture.
A hand made of pure concept.Writhing.Seeking.
Jason instinctively slashed—
SHING—!
The hand retreated.
The Observer trembled violently.
"SYSTEM—BREACH—FORCE-TERMINATION…"
Jason dashed forward.
Longwu screamed:
["JASON! IF YOU HIT HIM NOW—THE MASK WILL COMPLETELY—"]
Jason didn't hesitate.
He struck.
Longwu's blade pierced the center of the cracked mask.
CRAAAAACK—!
Light burst outward. The chamber shook violently.Pillars shattered.Reality folded in on itself.
The Observer's scream filled the chamber.
A thousand voices layered over one another.
Jason was blown backward into a pillar.
His breath left his lungs.
He slid to the ground—
—and saw the Observer collapse to one knee.
The mask—
shattered completely.
Jason stared.
Longwu whispered in awe:
["…Jason Wu…you broke an Observer."]
Jason's mind swirled.
He couldn't breathe.
He couldn't think.
He had done something impossible.
And then—
The broken mask released a whisper.
A soft, exhausted voice.
"…Th-thank… you…"
Jason froze.
"…What?"
But the Observer's body convulsed—like strings being violently reattached.
Then it rose again.
Unsteady.Cracked.But functional.
Jason stumbled back in horror.
"You're still—?!"
The Observer spoke—
Except it wasn't the same presence.
The voice was colder.
Automatic.
Unfeeling.
"New Directive:Eliminate Jason Wu before identity drift becomes irreversible."
Jason's blood turned to ice.
Longwu whispered:
["…Jason.Run.—RUN NOW—"]
