Chapter 12 - The Dragon-Slayer Is About to Enter the Battlefield

"By the way… where's Florges?"

Chen Shi glanced around but didn't see her anywhere.

"She went to the back yard to train. Such a diligent child," Grandma said fondly.

Chen Shi nodded, then looked down at Togepi in his arms.

Togepi froze.

It knew that look.

With a tiny sigh of resignation, it lowered its head and nodded obediently.

Chen Shi chuckled and carried it to the training grounds.

In the backyard, Florges was already training — wearing gravity wristbands and a weighted belt, launching Swift and Energy Ball at distant targets.

Florges' natural numbers were incredible — 112 Special Attack and 154 Special Defense made her a battlefield monster.

But her HP and Defense weren't great, so Chen Shi had her doing heavy physical conditioning to balance her weaknesses.

Her stats floated before his eyes:

Pokémon: Florges

Level: 45 (Mid-Elite)

Potential: Quasi-Champion

Ability: Flower Veil

Gender: Female

Moves: Safeguard, Synthesis, Wish, Petal Dance, Magical Leaf, Grassy Terrain, Grass Knot, Protect, Endure, Swift, Baton Pass, Sunny Day, Seed Bomb, Energy Ball, Solar Beam, Substitute, Disarming Voice

"…Huh?"

Chen Shi rubbed his eyes.

A Fairy-type move.

He rushed over immediately.

"Florges! Wait — did you awaken a new move today?"

Florges hesitated… then nodded.

She had awakened a new move earlier.

But she couldn't use it a second time afterward.

She didn't understand why.

Chen Shi's brain whirred.

"How could it vanish after one use… unless—"

Then clarity struck.

The world still had almost no natural Fairy-type energy.

Florges had only the artificial Fairy energy he jump-started using his custom energy cubes.

That stored energy was tiny — so using a single Fairy move drained it completely.

Chen Shi clapped sharply.

He turned and sprinted away at full speed.

Florges and Togepi watched him vanish, sighed in unison, and kept training.

They were long used to his sudden mad-scientist outbursts.

Moments later Chen Shi came tearing back, space backpack in hand.

He pulled out the special Fairy-type awakening cubes and presented one to Florges.

"Quick! Eat it — try the move again!"

Florges accepted it gracefully…

and ate it painfully slowly.

Chen Shi nearly tore his hair out.

Big sis, please… just a little faster…

But he dared not rush her.

Even Swampert feared interrupting Florges during mealtime.

At last she finished.

A warm, soft energy settled inside her — familiar, comforting, as if it had always belonged.

Florges gave him an amused smile.

"Flo~"

(Ready.)

Chen Shi's eyes gleamed.

"Do it!"

Florges inhaled lightly and released a soft, melodious cry wrapped in gentle pink radiance.

A perfect Fairy-type resonance.

Chen Shi punched the air.

"Yes! That's it!"

Fairy-type — the attribute that toppled dragons from the throne.

He had awakened it early.

How could he not be excited?

Florges, however, just looked slightly exasperated.

"Flo…"

(I can't use it again.)

Chen Shi waved it off.

"Doesn't matter. Keep eating these cubes — they'll replenish your Fairy energy."

Then he knelt in front of her and spoke seriously:

"Listen, Florges — you are not a Grass-type Pokémon.

You belong to a new attribute.

It's called the Fairy Type."

"From today onward…"

"You are the new generation of Dragon-Slayers."

Florges froze.

Then raised one elegant brow.

Dragon-slayer?

Could this human be any more crude?

Chen Shi continued, unwavering:

"For now, focus on Grassy Terrain, Grass Knot, Energy Ball, Solar Beam, Wish, and Substitute."

"Grass isn't your real type. Once your Fairy energy matures, your true moves will awaken."

Florges nodded gently.

She trusted him completely.

"Keep training. And make sure that little one doesn't slack off."

He pointed at Togepi — panting furiously, egg-shell bouncing, wearing a heavy gravity headband while running laps.

"Flo~"

(Got it.)

Since Togepi had few offensive moves right now, Chen Shi had her focusing on endurance and stamina. Later, when she awakened Air Slash and stronger Fairy moves, she would become a true battlefield threat.

He watched the two train, eyes drifting into deep contemplation.

Both Togepi and Florges awakening Fairy-type moves on the same night…

Impossible to be coincidence.

That meant only one thing:

Fairy-type energy was beginning to return to the world.

Which meant—

Xerneas was close to awakening.

And if Xerneas awakened…

Yveltal wouldn't be far behind.

That giant death-bird waking up was never a good sign.

But honestly?

Not his problem.

Zygarde existed.

If Yveltal attempted any large-scale death spread, Zygarde would certainly enforce balance.

Compared to Kalos…

Hoenn felt like a headache waiting to explode.

At least Kalos had:

Xerneas, embodiment of life

Zygarde, warden of order

Hoenn, in contrast…

Chen Shi sighed heavily.

In his past life, Hoenn's trio of disasters was infamous.

If either:

Groudon (the one who can't fly)

or

Kyogre (the oversized fish)

woke up, the other would too.

They'd fight.

Again.

Then get beaten senseless by Rayquaza, and go back to sleep.

And now Team Magma and Team Aqua were stirring.

Who knew how long peace would last?
