Evelyn was taken aback, completely missing the deeper meaning behind Caden Lockwood's probing words.
"Could it really be you?" she asked incredulously.
His glare grew colder. She shrank back weakly and whispered, "If it really was you, then stop already! You have no reason to hold a grudge against him!"
"Initially, I had none." Caden's eyes narrowed slightly, emitting a terrifying flash of cold light, "Now, I do."
Hearing his words with clear intent, Evelyn trembled heavily, and seeing Caden turning to leave, she quickly grabbed him.
"Uncle, where are you going?" Her face was full of fear.
"To do what you think I'd do." Caden's voice was icy, every word as if it could freeze bones.
"I didn't say it was you!" Evelyn became more anxious, "Can't I even ask a question?"
Seeing his rising fury, she quickly said, "If it wasn't you, let's just leave this alone!"
"How?" Caden lowered his gaze, looking at Evelyn's hand on his arm, "Are you afraid he'll get into trouble?"
