August passed, September came, and so did autumn. Early autumn is always gentle, keeping summer during the day and bringing the autumn breeze after sunset.
Holly stretched lazily. She stood by the window looking at the trees in the backyard. Autumn has arrived; she could already feel its presence.
She quite liked autumn; she was born in this season. Her birthday was just around the corner, her twenty-first birthday.
The phone screen lit up, a message from an unfamiliar number without a note:
[I'll celebrate your birthday with you, wait for me.]
Just this brief message, nothing more.
Holly looked at the message and slightly curled her lips. She wasn't exactly happy, but also not unhappy. Her feelings were quite complicated actually.
[No need, I'm not in Arkenfall.]
After replying, Holly deleted all the messages on her phone.
No need, really.
Celebrating her birthday or not, it was all the same to her. It didn't make much difference, the same people every year.
