Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Bumper Harvest

Corbin Crowley led her deep into Tagren Forest, walked a while longer, and then stopped.

His body shimmered with white light, about to transform into human form, without even greeting Luna Sutton.

Seeing she was about to be left behind, she cursed under her breath: "Dog man, can't even give a heads up."

As he was about to transform, she quickly jumped off, landing steadily on the ground.

Corbin Crowley noticed her movement, raised an eyebrow slightly, and looked at her with surprise.

Then, his face filled with disdain, he coldly said, "Stay put, or I won't care if you die."

Without waiting for her response, he transformed into a wolf and quickly disappeared.

Clearly off to hunt.

Luna Sutton was unfazed by his attitude, only looked around.

She found that besides herself, there were no other Beastmen around, slightly stupefied.

So, he left her here alone?

Wasn't her father asking Corbin Crowley to bring her along?

To just leave her here alone, what kind of escort is this?

Her face showed displeasure.

Staying put was impossible; she had come to gather resources, how can she stay put and find anything?

But she didn't directly go looking.

Instead, she first collected some flexible yet strong vines nearby and sat under a large tree to weave a basket.

With a basket, it's easier to carry things.

Resources were abundant in the Beast world, good things scattered all over the mountains, can't go without something to carry them.

She selected a long and flexible vine as the basket's main structure, gently rubbing the vine's texture and strength, it seemed fine.

Then started weaving the bottom of the basket, intertwining the vines to form a circular base.

Gradually weaving upwards to form the body of the basket.

In her past life, she watched outdoor survival programs and saw others weave baskets; she knew the process, just never made one herself.

Now she was forced to try it.

Fortunately, she was quite handy; after some thought, she got the knack of it and started moving faster.

Before long, a basket was made.

Though not very pretty, it was passable, with a very sturdy bottom, perfectly functional to carry things.

No matter if it looks good or not, as long as it can carry things.

She especially picked two thick vines to tie at the top of the basket, one strap on each side, knotting them tightly to prevent them from coming loose.

Luna Sutton looked at her passable basket, eyes flashing with satisfaction, she carried it on her back and started looking for resources.

Tagren Forest was rich with resources, wild fruits were everywhere, like wild bananas, milk fruit, ziziphus, wild loquats...

It was The Blazing Season, the mountains were full of fruits, big and sweet; she hadn't gone far before she filled half the basket, it was heavy, but luckily the basket was sturdy.

She didn't dare pick too many wild bananas, they spoil easily and are hard to preserve.

She did pick quite a lot of ziziphus, which can be made into candied fruit if there's surplus, great for snacks when Winter arrives.

She also found two chestnut trees, tall and big, with fruits everywhere, some even opened up.

Chestnuts were good stuff, considered a coarse grain, despite their small size, they were incredibly filling.

Whether eaten raw, roasted, or boiled, they were all good.

She first picked up the spiky burrs that had fallen to the ground, filling her basket.

After cleaning the ground, she found a long and thin stick nearby and carefully climbed the tree.

It took a lot of effort to climb up; this body was too pudgy, really hard to climb.

She stood on the main trunk, as it was the thickest, afraid to stand on others for fear of breaking them and falling.

With one hand clinging to the trunk and the other holding the stick, she began to strike where the burrs were dense.

"Crackling..."

The burrs crackled and fell from the tree.

Soon enough, the ground was covered with burrs, looking like dozens of pounds.

She was enjoying her pounding when suddenly a voice came from behind, "What are you doing?"

Luna Sutton was almost scared to death, had almost fallen from the tree, but luckily grabbed onto the trunk to avoid a fatal fall.

Looking over with lingering fear.

She saw Malachi Arcanus standing there, staring at her with a peculiar look, not quite understanding why she was messing with these.

Seeing it was Malachi Arcanus, she let out a sigh of relief, glaring at him angrily, "Do you walk without making a sound? Don't you know that people scaring people, no, beasts scaring beasts, can scare them to death?"

Malachi Arcanus said nothing, only stared at her curiously from the tree.

This plump girl, how did she even climb up?

And in his understanding, Luna Sutton was lazy and greedy, always lying in the cave waiting for them to feed her.

Never mind climbing trees, asking her to walk faster was hard enough.

Not only was she not lazy now, but also diligent, bold enough to come for hunting and climb trees?

Perhaps it's because she gained some special powers and changed?

Luna Sutton saw him staring at her silently, didn't mind, tossed the stick aside and carefully slid down from the tree.

Then squatted down to pick up burrs.

She wanted to peel the chestnuts and take them back but that was too much work, so she simply picked them up, planning to peel them later.

Malachi Arcanus kept staring at her and couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing with these? They sting and the inside is small, not enough to even fill a cavity."

Beastmen rarely bothered with these, one reason being they're prickly, and the fruit is scarce; better to hunt for meat.

Luna Sutton glanced at him, "Don't underestimate them, they are delicious, very filling, rich in nutrition, can be stored for a long time, and great for keeping for Winter."

With that, she continued picking, soon filling the basket.

There were still lots of burrs on the ground, she hadn't where to carry them.

Luckily, vines were everywhere in the Beast world.

She pulled some vines nearby, squatted down to weave a basket.

Malachi Arcanus was surprised to hear that burrs could be stored for long.

Wondering where she suddenly knew so much, and where she heard it.

But he didn't dwell on it, as the fruit is too small.

Even taking them all back, it wouldn't last many meals.

Seeing her pull vines and weave something, at first, he didn't understand, until gradually realizing the basket shaping in her hands.

He glanced at the burr-filled basket, understanding she was weaving this thing.

His expression slightly changed, realizing it was quite convenient for carrying things.

"What's this called? How do you know how to weave it?"

Malachi Arcanus couldn't help but ask.

Luna Sutton paused in her weaving, casually replying, "This is called a backpack basket, for carrying things. As for how to weave, I just figured it out."

She couldn't very well say she learned it from watching TV during the apocalypse, so answered vaguely.

Malachi Arcanus said nothing, only watching her intently, unsure of what he was thinking.

She didn't mind, focusing on her basket weaving.

This basket turned out prettier than the previous one, and she made it even faster.

"Ding! Malachi Arcanus' favorability has changed, does the host wish to check?"

Just then, the system voice echoed in her mind.

She paused briefly, glancing at Malachi Arcanus, but didn't immediately check, only asked inwardly, "What's his current favorability?"

"-40!"

The system answered concisely.

Luna Sutton was slightly surprised, she remembered Malachi's favorability was -60 when she woke this morning.

In less than a day, it increased by 20 points.

She guessed it had something to do with revealing her powers and her busy efforts now.

Diligent and capable females always gain higher favorability.

She smirked, looking back at Malachi Arcanus, cheerfully asking, "Aren't you going hunting?"

This man didn't have any prey around him, presumably had not caught anything yet or hadn't spotted any.

"Of course, I need to hunt, you be careful."

Malachi Arcanus gave her a glance, leaving these words.

The black light surrounding him flashed, instantly becoming a giant black wolf, leaping and vanishing in the forest.

Luna Sutton watched the direction he left, smiling slightly, soon retracted her gaze.

She moved the two baskets filled with things under the tree, planning to come back for them later.

No one in the Beast World would take these, she wasn't worried about theft.

It was still early, she planned to roam around nearby.

She carried an empty basket and left.

She hadn't gone far before abruptly stopping, gaze fixed on a direction.

"Hmm? Is that wild ginger?"

Not far away was a patch of plants resembling wild ginger, thriving splendidly, leaves wide and green, looking extremely appealing.

But they were more robust than what she saw in her past life, and the leaves differed slightly.
