Adrian looked at her face, dead serious: "Giving you a heads-up—I'm going to the bathroom. Don't get startled."
Serena found it baffling.
Why did he need to tell her if he was just going to the bathroom?
It's not like she was helping him take his pants off.
—"So do I have to announce it to you every time I use the bathroom from now on?"
The conversation at the Quinn Family's came rushing back; Serena suddenly understood. Not wanting to discuss it, she just went along with him, brushing it off:
"Wow, you're actually pretty considerate."
"What's going on?" Adrian sized her up with a look full of meaning, stretching out his words, "Junior."
Serena didn't get what he meant and tilted her face up slightly: "What?"
"You compliment me every time we meet." Adrian's expression was serious but his tone was lazy, just shy of accusing her of ulterior motives.
But he didn't really say it out loud, so she didn't even get the chance to deny it.
Serena thought back over it carefully.
