Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Mutated Goblin

"Get out of the way! It's magic!" The archer Nia in the rear noticed the blue light almost simultaneously and immediately shouted a warning.

But Thor and the other two were focused on killing the goblins in front of them and hadn't noticed it. When they heard Nia's warning and looked up suddenly, the blue-white beam had already arrived in front of them.

"Bang!"

As the blue-white beam exploded, a burst of chilling cold spread out!

Even Raine and the others, who were twenty meters away, felt a rush of cold wind hit their faces.

Raine was startled and immediately fixed his eyes on the scene.

He saw Thor clutching his right hand in horror, his longsword already dropped to the ground.

The right hand that had held the sword was now covered in a thick layer of frost, extending to his shoulder, chest, and right arm and glistening white all over.

Raine, in astonishment, found that the white sheen was actually a centimeter-thick layer of ice.

Although Thor wasn't completely frozen, his pale complexion and shivering body clearly showed that he had lost the ability to continue fighting.

The man with dual darts, named Evans, panicked and immediately stepped back a few steps.

"Damn! It's a zero-level spell, Freezing Ray!" the two-handed greatsword man roared.

He quickly swung and swept his greatsword to the side, then pulled Thor back hurriedly.

This suddenly left most of the cave entrance, which the three of them had been blocking, wide open.

As if in coordination with the magic, over five goblins suddenly rushed out from the cave.

Among them, two goblins holding long spears were guarding a goblin that looked somewhat unusual, wearing a dirty linen shirt, as they came out.

"Be careful!"

"It's a mutated goblin!"

"How could such a low probability event happen to our squad," Nia muttered, her face changing.

The originally easy slaughter suddenly turned into an unpredictable battle.

"Swoosh!"

A dagger-wielding goblin that was about to rush to Nia's side was stabbed to death on the ground by Raine's fork.

"Thank you!"

"It's only right!"

Raine, who was also stunned by the appearance of the mutated goblin, was the first among the villagers to snap back.

Although he was amazed by the blue-white pillar of light cast by the mutated goblin, murmuring in his heart, "Is this magic?" He quickly thought of something and became excited.

Because a thought sprang up in Raine's heart—"If I could kill this mutated goblin, I should be able to gain its mutant bloodline, right?"

Thus, under the great temptation of killing the magic-casting opponent, Raine's adrenaline surged, his eyes staring straight at the mutated goblin in front of him.

Unlike the others, at this moment, he felt almost no fear.

What he had was only a thirst for that mysterious magic.

Moreover, the battle wasn't overly difficult at all in Raine's eyes.

At least, if the few villagers charged together with the four adventurers, eight people against five goblins.

Even though one of theirs lost the ability to fight and one on the other side was mutated, they still had over a ninety percent chance to win!

He just didn't believe that the mutated goblin could cast magic without limitations, as if it were a Gatling gun.

"Quickly, help out! These five goblins should be all of them!"

Raine rushed forward first!

And because of Raine's charge, the other three villagers glanced at each other and followed suit.

It wasn't so much anything else, but two of the villagers' daughters still needed to be rescued from inside the cave. Even as an outsider, Raine rushed up, so how could the fathers stay behind?

Moreover, apart from the mutated one, the number of goblins wasn't many, just five in total, and they had eight people!

"Swoosh!"

Raine stabbed out fiercely with the fork again, and due to the passive Talent Strong Level 1, which added 1 point each to his power and agility, his fork was more swift and powerful than before.

Immediately, another goblin screamed and died under his fork.

Nia naturally saw this scene.

Her eyes couldn't help but tremble, seemingly surprised by the power of Raine's fork, but in truth, she was somewhat at a loss to understand Raine's near-reckless bravery.

And the sudden joining of the Oak Village villagers led by Raine immediately panicked the goblins, including the mutated one on the other side.

After all, facing eight humans, it was impossible for the goblins as low-level demons not to be flustered.

Even the mutated goblin's eyes flashed, chattering rapidly, but the remaining three goblins' eyes were already wavering.

As for the adventurer squad, with the addition of four villagers, their morale rose!

The situation was reversed once again.

Seeing the situation wasn't favorable, the mutated goblin quickly raised its hand, poised to cast magic at the crowd once more.

But in the next moment, an arrow whistled through the air, hitting its just-raised arm.

"Squeak~"

The mutated goblin, with its arm pierced by Nia, was now completely panicked, clutching its wounded arm, abandoning the remaining goblins, and suddenly rushed into the grass.

Facing the escaping mutated goblin, whether it was the greatsword man supporting Thor or the dagger man, they didn't give chase, perhaps wary of its potential to cast magic again.

The two villagers, eager to rescue their families, also had no inclination to chase the mutated goblin and instead dashed towards the three goblins that hadn't dispersed at the cave entrance.

So only Raine chased after it immediately.

In the dim environment, with his low light vision, Raine's eyes locked onto the silhouette of the mutated goblin among the sparse grass.

But also wary of whether the other could cast magic again, Raine didn't get too close.

After a few twists and turns, and grasping an opportunity when it paused, Raine suddenly stopped, preparing in a javelin-throwing stance, extended his body, and forcefully threw the fork in his right hand.

"Swoosh!"

The fork brushed past the sparse grass, hitting the goblin's left shoulder, clad in tattered linen.

With a scream, it staggered and fell to the ground.

Raine, overjoyed, immediately dashed forward towards the struggling to rise mutated goblin and delivered a jump kick!

Thudding heavily on its just-raised head.

"Bang!"

The green-skinned head was heavily embedded into the ground, and Raine took the opportunity to pull up the fork stuck in the ground in front of him, stabbing fiercely at the still-struggling mutated goblin several times.

"Swoosh!"

"Swoosh!"

Blood splattered everywhere!

Not until the mutated goblin under his foot stopped moving did Raine cease his stabbing.

"Huff~ huff~"

Raine panted heavily; the nonstop pursuit and all-out stabbing had left him somewhat exhausted, despite the enhancement from Strong Level 1.

Raine didn't even know how many times he stabbed with the fork.

All he thought was to finish off the opponent, to prevent it from casting that formidable spell, so he stabbed incessantly.

Looking down now, he realized with a shock that the body of the mutated goblin had turned into a beehive, pierced at least a dozen times by him.

Staring at the mutilated body of the mutated goblin at his feet, Raine mused inwardly:

'This should definitely count as having claimed the goblin's last drop of blood, right?'
