Ren looked at the sunlight. Then she looked at the tiger.
"He eats first," she said.
Syris's tongue flicked out. "You have fed it all night."
"And I'm out of birds." She raised her voice. "Bia. What came in with the morning hunters?"
Bia glanced at the King. The King didn't look at her.
"A boar, Mistress."
"All of it, please."
Syris stood where he was and watched Bia and Las drag the boar across the floor between them.
"You may talk while you cut," he said.
Ren got up. Oreo was still asleep in the crook of her arm, so she held him out to Kael, who took him. Oreo grabbed a fistful of chest hair without waking.
Kael had plucked birds all night and hadn't eaten one.
