Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

~REID

Athena, the girl I had brought home last night stood in the doorway, her eyes settling on the table where my men and I were sat as she scanned each of our faces before a bright and bubbly smile graced her lips.

The purple veil that had concealed part of her face yesterday was now gone, revealing a face that was both delicate and strong. Her flawless pale skin glowed in the morning light and her smooth long legs were showcased by the mini white gown she was wearing. My gaze lingered on her face, drinking in the beauty of her captivating features for I never knew she was aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Beautiful.

The early morning sun casted its golden light on her face, accentuating the sharp planes of her cheekbones and the curve of her rosy lips which were begging to be devoured. My eyes settled on hers, and those eyes of hers always seemed to stir up some sort of emotion within my soul whenever I looked at them.

I had bid 5 million dollars on her and as I regarded her presence, I couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, I hadn't made a mistake after all because I was beginning to regret my decision.

Her vibrant gaze met mine and I momentarily forgot about the plan, about the war, about the Alvarians, about everything. I felt a flutter in my chest and that feeling I felt at that moment irked me up and unnerved me so much. Just like a click on the door, my thoughts returned back to reality as it reminded me of who I was, I was the future don to the Valtorian mafia. I was Reid, Reid Gambino.

Instantly, I masked up my expression as my face turned unreadable, my eyes was cold and hard as it left no trace of the subtle gleam that was once present in them.

Athena, who was oblivious to my inner turmoil smiled brightly and greeted the room. "Good morning everyone!"

My men were caught off guard by her sudden appearance as they all gawked at her like she was a mirage. They stumbled over their words like fools, their voices barely above a whisper as they responded to her greeting like they had never seen a woman before.

Enzo however, smiled warmly and replied. "Good morning, Athena." His kindness caught my men off guard making them exchange surprised glances because they knew Enzo's reputation, they knew how menacing and terrifying he was. Yet, he was being kind and all smiley towards Athena and it threw them off balance.

Athena, sensing their gaze on her made her uncomfortable on her stance. Her smile faltered a bit and her cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink. She nervously darted her eyes to the side and I knew she was thinking about her eyes, about how they were different, and how people would always stare at them weirdly.

Even though her voice was disturbing last night, I remembered what she had told me about how people would always judge her because of the difference in her eyes.

They succeeded in making her feel insecure about her most beautiful trait. Those pathetic fools.

"Athena." I called in an authoritative manner, gesturing to the chair beside me. "Come sit."

Athena's hesitant eyes met mine before she nodded and walked towards me, her eyes scanning the room with her smile back in place like they were never gone.

As she approached the table, my men couldn't help but stare at her like they were wolves in heat. Their eyes fixated on her as if she was the first woman to ever walked this earth. Their unwanted stare made her uncomfortable, it was obvious in the way she held herself and how she had avoided their gaze.

A wave of possession crashed upon me which made my frown deepen, my eyes turned into slits as I watched my men openly gawk at what was mine in an inappropriate way.

"Boys," I called monotonously. "She's off limits." I warned with a sharp tone which made them give a series of 'okay boss' in return. "Return to the base, I'll join soon."

They all stood up and left, leaving Enzo behind who gave me an amusing look which I instantly brushed off before dismissing him with my hands.

I watched Athena, my eyes never leaving her face as she took a deep breath and smiled at me. Her innocent gesture made me wonder why she doesn't feel intimidated or scared around me. She was a puzzle, a mystery, and I was determined to unravel her secrets and the reason why she had insisted on following me home when she had the will to go wherever she wanted. Now that she had stepped into my threshold, there is no escaping from me as she was bounded to me.

My paranoia couldn't help but to think about all sorts of ulterior motives she might harbor. After all, she was auctioned off the Alvarian ground and she could be a spy for all I know.

"And how was your night, Master?" She cheerily asked breaking my train of thoughts.

I groaned uncomfortably at the name she had called me. "I wouldn't think twice before putting a bullet in between your eyes if you call me that again." I spoke, my voice calm but laced with threats which made a saddened expression coat her feature. "It's Reid." I added.

"I'm sorry, Reid." she apologized, my name flowed smoothly out of her mouth and I couldn't help but to wonder how my name would sound while I was doing unholy things to her.

Before my thoughts begins to go out of line, I asked without beating around the bush. "What is your plan?"

She looked taken aback by my question, her once saddened expression morphed into a wide smile like I had asked something funny. There was no way this girl wasn't mentally disturbed, and an asylum would have been of great help to her but instead, she insisted on following me home.

"I don't have a plan yet but I promise to repay you for your kindness. I would need to get a job first, then I would work lots of shifts because I don't know how long it will take to repay the 5-" she stopped talking immediately she felt the cold metal of my gun pressed to the side of her head as I was now stood behind her chair, my presence looming over her still frame.

"I would think twice before speaking if I were you." I spoke, irritation present in my voice as I pressed the gun deeper, twisting it into the side of her head which made her whimper. "Do you feel it?" I asked, making her nod frantically in response before letting out a chocked sob.

I slowly dragged the gun from her temple to the side of her neck which made her hold her breath in. "Tell me, who do you work for?" I questioned.

"W-what? I don't work f-for anyone." She answered with a slight stutter which doesn't sound like she was lying. But still, I couldn't trust her because I can't trust people.

I hummed in response, trailing the gun over her jawline. "It would be a shame if I had to ruin this beautiful art piece by dismembering your body, Athena."

Her eyes widened in terror and I could see the silent pool of tears cascading down her face. I moved to gun away from her jawline and pressed it against her forehead making her gasp in fear.

I roughly grabbed and raised up her jaw with my left hand while my right hand held the gun to her forehead. I lowered my head which made our faces few inches apart as my eyes flickered from her teary brown orbs to her green ones.

"Don't do anything that would make me gouge out those eyes of yours." I spoke, my voice low and menacing. "Do you understand?" I asked which made her nod as tears continued to run down her cheeks.

"Words Athena."

"Y-yes Reid, I u-understand." Her voice came out small and pained but I really don't care for I meant every word I had said to her. I hope what she had said to me was the truth because I would rather have her eyes attached to her body than to the wall of my bedroom.

"Good." I said, letting go of her jaw which had red imprints of my fingers due to how hard I had gripped her. I tucked back my gun into the waistband of my pants, leaving her alone to the sound of her broken sobs as I exited the mansion.
